Your reactions to Peaky Blinders have genuinely been my all time favourite reactions to any TV show. You have both been completely on point with the characters and arcs - it has been an absolute joy to watch. Enjoy the finale. ❤
Correction Nikki: "Like THE boss!" 😎 Oh, and Hayden Stagg is played by Stephen Graham, who you might remember from the movie "Snatch". And if you haven't seen it, then I'd suggest that you remedy that egregious oversight. ASAP. Especially because I know you like daags so much.
It's hard to believe this show was meant to be a low budget IFC type production. With only a $7.5 million dollar budget for season 1 its hard to understand how a series like the Acolyte could literally set fire to a $180 million dollar budget. It proves people are looking for original well written stories. Television is the ultimate escape from the real world, leaving your real world ideals and politics out of the story.
The crazy thing is, Peaky Blinders does talk a LOT about real world matters and politics. It's just not shoehorned, oversimplified or rushed, but rather done through interesting characters and conflicts. And it doesn't hurt that we have Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy in it lol
@@pabloc8808 I can't imagine a better cast for this show. Even Michael feels like a real person with real ego issues. I appreciate when a show can center around hot topics like politics without feeling forced and being without the creators own personal ideology.
@@SoupyUnicycle Exactly. This show portrays the prejudice against the Roma, antisemitism, socialism, fascism, feminism, racism, the politics of war, and it never feels out of place. It all fits the story, it's not forced, that makes the show a great watch and rewatch.
Tommy Shelby is fictional. The Peaky Blinders were real but they were just a petty Birmingham gang, nothing to do with the Shelby's and were only around at the end of the 19th Century. Mosley was real, as were the Mitford sisters and they were heavily involved with Hitler, Mussolini (more than Hitler) and the British Facists. They were gaoled during the war, then let go and fled to Ireland and France. Mosley died in Paris in the 1980's. A lot of the upper class, titled, Facists in Britain were allowed to go abroad rather than face real punishment, including the ex-King Edward VIII. The US Americans who were also involved in Facism were also allowed to continue unpunished and in fact some went into Politics. So the writers can pretty much end the story of the Shelby's however they want to, without changing any history for the real people they have written about.
Have you guys heard of the show Animal Kingdom with the actor who plays Michael? Its a crime drama. It's similar to Soa and peaky blinders in a way, even if not quite at that level.
Remember, after the series is over, there's still a movie (I'm sure someone may have mentioned it). Should start filming by the end of the year. Also, if you want to watch another really good show by the same creator of Peaky Blinders but starring Tom Hardy, watch Taboo. There's only one season. They are expecting to do another season after 7 years of waiting, but I won't hold my breath.
The real world Peaky Blinders ringleader Thomas Gilbert serves as a partial inspiration for the Tommy Shelby character. Also, whilst i normally agree with pretty much everything you guys say. I disagree about the length. We all want more PB (which gladly we're getting with the film) but I think the short seasons are one of it's big strengths. It doesn't waste time with filler & it doesn't overstay it's welcome. I've struggled to stick with many American shows as they tend to be much longer than UK shows & most of them do so with many pointless filler episodes. But i also struggle to read a long book so that could say more about me ha
Pursuant to Mosley, and the extent to which they stay true to history in the show, they've generally adopted the attitude of having fictional characters interacting with real historical events & people, without changing real history. So, for instance, Mosley wasn't assassinated in 1929, so he wasn't assassinated in the show. His rally really happened, just like in the last episode of season 5, only Tommy Shelby wasn't there because Tommy Shelby is fictional. Consequently, it's good that you've deliberately avoided looking up Mosley and his fate, since "real" people will have their historical fates. But for any/all fictional characters on the show, you can't predict what will happen to them.
If i could make a suggestion: 1990s "Jacobs Ladder" that movie is more disturbing then "smile" IMO. Don't let the age fool you its a crazy thriller i think you 2 will enjoy
This episode had the best intro song of the Season. The original Red Right Hand song never played throughout the entire final season which was a huge let down.

Thomas Shelby was such a fuck hypocrite throughout this show, but the opening scene displayed it so clearly. All of his bullshit concerns about the effects of opium on his constituents, meanwhile he is a massive opium dealer and is currently in negotiations with Boston for a massive opium deal.
@@mynameisnoonesbusiness4488 more like Tommy is a double agent that does work for the British govt in secrecy in a similar way to how the bond character does work for the govt. I’m not a bond expert.
