      Hey I got a question regarding shedding, my gecko actually comes to me to help him shed, and he only does this after my aunt who had him prior left him in a dry condition and he kinda lost a claw.. he does eat his shed after, and eats well anyway...mostly (has a hornworm addiction im trying to put off) is this like bad to help him in all circumstances? He seems to enjoy it , never really seen him do anything to show stress when I am helping him. Also, I tried feeding him dubia roaches.. he tried to eat it then spit it back on me....

    This has made me feel like a truly responsible owner as not one of these things has crossed my mind. Good to make it clear though. Not sure what was funnier: dreaming dog or your reaction to him. Impressed that he can still interrupt even while unconscious!

    I am new to keeping reptiles as pets and I am amazed that these things would have to be mentioned. I think all the advice given should be known, specially if you want leopard geckos as pets, and it saddens me to know that people can be sooooo irresponsible with a pet that they should be treating with respect and humanity. I appreciate that you put yourself out there even if you do get petty comments.

    The "on the back" pose for a leopard gecko is a horrible thing to do. I've heard of some people whose geckos suffered spinal damage from trying to get out of that. They're naturally very photogenic animals - you don't need to do that to take beautiful pictures of your leopard gecko.

    • @selectidiot
      @selectidiot 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      they cant breath on their backs.

    • @danieltaylor4185
      @danieltaylor4185 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@selectidiot This is also mostly true - they do seem to have a lot of trouble breathing on their backs, because they're simply not built to be in that position for extended periods of time. That's why they grab their "feet" and struggle to get back to an upright position. And it's another reason for why trying to capture this "pose" is bad for your gecko.

    I co habbed my females originally, everything you say about it is what happened over time. One was neglected and bullied, two others fought one another..another actually got respiratory infections as well. Another big risk of co habbing is not being able to assess their poop if you don’t know who’s is whos.
    Agreed co hab is a huge task to do well.
    All my girls are in their own enclosures now and all recovered, no dropped tails or long term affects..thankfully I got them out of there in time.
    Great video!

      I just got 3 females who were already co habbed. They get fed separately but so far in 4 years have not fought, lost a tail, etc. All in the same not extremely elaborate enclosure. Idk why, not denying that it can be an issue, but the girls are just chill😂 I’ve tried to find a reason so far I think it could be bc they were babies together or there are geckos who feel less stressed co habbed🤷🏽‍♀️

    As a relatively new owner, i truly appreciate this information. I have never done any of these things with my leo, and I never plan to. He is still young, and I've felt very protective over him, so now that I know what not to do, I can make his life even better by avoiding these things, because I want my little friend to be safe and healthy and happy as long as possible. The only time I’ve had to do anything close to “pealing” my Leo’s shed is after her surgery for follicular stasis. She’d already popped her abdominal sutures the week before pulling at her feeding tube and the vet had said if the wound re-opened the whole incision would need to be abrided and re-sutured. I watched her remove as much as she could but it was clearly stuck around the staples, so I had to give her a very quick soak and then clean off the area with a q-tip. She managed to get everything else on her own after that.

    • @blitzbrahgaming5133
      @blitzbrahgaming5133 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cohabbing leapard geckos can be alright if you take the right measures. For instance you can't feed them in the tank and you also have to have at least a 100 gallon like I do. I also watch to make sure they get a long but usually they stay away to their side of the tank since I have warm hides and cold hides for both of them. It's not that I don't want to pay for another tank, I just bought a better tank for the both of them.

    • @actual______criminal
      @actual______criminal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@blitzbrahgaming5133 I’m sorry I guess I just don’t understand then that if you’re willing to spend that money for a huge tank and everything they need for inside, separate everything… why you wouldn’t just buy two tanks? So then you wouldn’t have to have that worry in the back of your head that today might be the day the decide to fight or harm each other. I just can’t rationalize choosing to put my animals in a potentially risky situation when i have the power to give them something safe. That’s just me tho.

      Through binge watching the “Leopard Gecko” girl on TH-cam. I heard her mention a certain syndrome of sorts (the name escapes me) where leopard geckos feel less stressed with mates. Obviously, that’s a specific rare instance.
      Also I just inherited 3 females who have been living together for 4 years without signs of stress or fighting. (I know the previous owner and have so far witnessed the calm behavior they described.) So I worry that if I buy two more enclosures I may come to find out they are that rare case who benefit from having their roomates.
      (Not disagreeing just showing what a 1% could look like.)

I even have two girls who are adults but are the size of teen geckos because I didn't feed them well when they were small. Now I feel that I can take good care of them and provide them with what they need, so that they live a happy life, but I still feel guilty and bad for not being so conscious before... :(

    People are idiots. I used to be a member of one or two Gecko care groups on Facebook thinking I would learn from more experienced keepers. Well, what ended up happening was that I routinely got into arguments with people who did things to their pets I won't even mention thinking they were doing the right thing or pics of Geckos who were obviously suffering thinking they were cute. It makes me sick to think about it. One woman threatened to find out where I lived, show up on my doorstep and possibly hurt me because I dared suggest that her pet was being kept too hot. Again people are idiots. Thank you for videos like this, we need more of them 🙂

    Urgent! First time reptile owner. I have 2 leaopard geckos adult male and young female. I have had for a week. Initially i was just supposed to get him but the person i was getting him from asked if i would take her as well. Said female was a rescue from an abusive situation and previous owner was afraid that she would become depressed from separation. So i got them both. The female is lively and although she has a new tail and missing toes she loves interacting with me. The male would prefer not to be bothered. Both are very healthy. Ive noticed that he checks on her and nuzzles her sometimes but they dont spend a ton of time together and are never aggressive. Both have great appetites. The sad reality is that pet shops will sell a beautiful living creature to anybody - it's not they require you to take a 5-10 hour class and to pass a test, or have your set-up inspected before being able to purchase a leo. Simple and direct "do" or "don't" videos like this help in establishing a minimum baseline of care.

    i've only had my leopard gecko for about a day now but he hasn't gone to the cool side of his tank at all? does anyone know if this is normal? i use a heat mat and i put it at 86-88 degrees, it comes out and explores every now and then but it's never gone to the other side of the tank. (from what i've seen, i'm at school most of the day) should I get a heat lamp too? or does this mean it's too cold in my room and that I should turn the heat mat up? I have a thermometer and a thermostat but the thermometer goes by the temperature it is in my room, usually it's never below 76-78 degrees in my room from what the thermometer says. I know it's normal for new geckos to hide a lot till they get comfortable, but i've heard different things so if anyone knows please let me know.

    another reason why not to get leopard geckos at Petsmart or Petco. I did my research I wanted two females. I got one male and one female. I don’t want to be a breeder I bought them for pets I have a 60 gallon tank and I had a back up tank of 40 gallons just in case, thank God, I have that!!!!! But I don’t know if she was impregnated or not. I don’t know what to do about a Lay box or how to make one. I’m learning as I go just in case.

    Hello Jessica 💖🤗, not sure was cuter Jackson dreaming or your expressions. 😍😄. Our basset hounds dream like that. We tell them to get that bunny! One of ours Chloe, who moved to Heaven was a rescue. Poor sweetie must have been horribly abused. She on the other hand slept between us and have nightmares. She would cry and we gently woke her up and reassure her she's with us.
    Live this video so much. I did a lot of research before getting my little ones. Never crossed my mind to do any of these things but then again I'm, you know, old for a first time reptile owner. I can't believe I just had my 63rd birthday. In my mind I'm your age. That's called denial. 😉😃.

      Are you providing UVB? A linear tube that’s 10 or 12? Use the Arcadia lighting guide to help figure out how close/far your UVB needs to be. And make sure it’s not placed on top of plastic or glass. Please consult my beardie care guide for more info. Lastly, you will need to contact an exotic vet to treat your bearded dragon.

    My older juvenile male leopard gecko freaks out and then becomes aggressive towards me when I try to pick it up by grabbing it from above for some reason. When I had a bearded dragon and blue tongue skink it had no problem with being picked up like that. A leopard geckos bite is a lot worse then it's adorable appearance.

      Leopard geckos natural predator is birds. A hand coming from above trigger their natural danger instinct. It is a reptile, but they are definitely different species. It's best to have a front opening cage so you don't have to feed them or try to grab them reaching down.

      A varied diet is best for a leopard gecko, which means you want to offer all kinds of different insects. Try including Dubia roaches, superworms, hornworms, black soldier fly larvae., locusts, crickets, and mealworms into the diet.

    I’m looking into getting a leopard gecko and although I have no experience outside the aquarium I have enough common sense not only to do research on the desired animal but to understand that reptiles are not dogs. and like fish and birds they have very specific care requirements that must be met or you will have a very dead reptile that could have been with you for years.

    We should care more for animal welfare. I live in Japan, I don’t think people care that much- they keep the environment clean and minimal but not from animal benefit perspective. It’s sad to see how animal welfare does so little in Asia. I wonder those doing the wrong things would watch this video but this is good for those who are thinking to buy one or newly to one :) thank you

    EMERGENCY!! I took my leopard gecko izzy outside for like three minutes in 78 degree weather and then when I took her back inside and put her in her tank, I believed she had a seizure. I placed her by her water dish which had water in it and she stood there without moving for like 30 seconds so I walked over in her tank's direction and she just freaked out, banging into all of her decors running extremely fast bending her neck a little and just continued to do that for like 10 seconds, then she ran in her hide. I lightly sprayed some water in her direction and she drunk some if it then later that day I offered her some dubia roaches and she ate them. Then I offered her some food because I was feeding my other gecko and she saw the roaches and put her head up and she ate it so I picked her up to see if she was okay cause I noticed she had some scars from banging against her decor and as i handled her for like 2 minutes she started breathing heavy so I gently put her down and she did the same thing please help I dont know what to do. She's been outside before and this never happened. PLEASE HELP. I'm not sure If I should schedule a vet appointment so please help!!

      @@monicamares9198 how often to handle them and how long to handle them for depend on the individual and how much they tolerate handling. Some are very stressed out by it, others tolerate it well. They may become more tolerant if you work with them. Start with shorter, less frequent handling sessions and gradually handle more.
