    Fantastic video! I was a gifted child, but unfortunately made some rather poor decisions in life (fell into addiction), and felt like I came out the other side of it with much of my prior intelligence missing. This video randomly popped up on my feed and I decided to give it a watch, if nothing else as perhaps a slight reassurance that there might be some hope in restoring some of what was lost. There's some truly brilliant advice in here, and this is the first video in a long time where I actually decided to continually pause, so that I could take notes on everything you said! Appreciate you sharing all of these tips, and I'll be sure to apply them as well as I can. Thank you!

    But be careful about the source of information. If the source tells you weather something is true or not, then that would be 'appeal to authority'. So how do we tell if something is actually true? We *test* it.

    There is no way to raise your iq, implying that you can does more harm than good. It’s decided mostly by genetics and the environment you were born into which no one has control over. Many of us have been fucked over by genetics we didn’t want or ask for. Lying to us won’t change that.

      I like the fact that you wrote style of music, instead of writing genre. All genres can be horrific depending on the individual song. There are brilliant minds who like many, many different types of music. I listen to and attend symphonies and enjoy Stevie Nicks, Mike Oldfield, Loreena McKennit, Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, Van Halen (David Lee Roth era), Willie Nelson, Tibetan throat singing, older rap, some blues and jazz (attended a masterclass in Jazz by Branford Marsalis.) I really do believe and/or think that's what is understood needn't be discussed. Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca is much better than Disco Duck by Rick Dees for the mind. Some things are just self-evident.

    what you talk about being able to sit with oneself, you're talking about meditation. meditation is the best thing you can do in life. even 2 minutes a day can have such high dividends, it's really crazy... just gotta do each day. 16:20 yeah, I live with absolutely insane people: constant screaming and door slamming, constant not caring about each other, just general behaviour being assholes, I think they don't like me for some reason, I really don't know why or what did I do, but the place I moved in was a mistake. I wasted at least half a year already. But I seem to constantly end up in toxic environments. God really gave me quite decent body and talents, but I'm always in bad situations, among bad people. Of course I'm still grateful for living in a place that's technically at peace, even though it doesn't feel like that in my place... Still, being thankful is a superpower. Each day I try to thank God for at least three things. We tend to forget or ignore the blessings we have, and be very aware of bad things in our lives. Chances are, if you are here, watching a video on youtube about how to raise your IQ, you already have a privileged life and should be grateful for various many things in it. Remember: boredom is something only the privileged have.

    Hey, this was a really interesting listen! My views on self-actualization reflect pretty closely to yours, as far as I can tell. This stuff should come from a place of self-love and open-mindedness to the sea of ideas around you. We're all constantly learning, but I worry that as we get older, people become more rigid in their beliefs and opinions and that stunts a lot of personal and societal development. So it's refreshing to hear someone like you have the spirit of a young adult like me. One thing caught me towards the end though - your view on a lot of music not being very good for the mind? I'm hardly an artist (I'm a compsci student), but I've been brought up classically trained on piano from when I was young as eight, and since then I've learned to appreciate a lot of pre-19th century music. As I've gotten older however, I've started to have a really strong palette for a wider variety of more experimental modern music that reflects a lot of the social/political issues that different groups of people experience. I'm known to have a 'weird' taste in music but my friends like to come to me as a critic on everything because they know I'm passionate about it. Whilst I enjoyed listening to you, I found that comment a bit shocking to hear and felt that it was a bit reductive on artists that are pushing boundaries in the modern landscape. It doesn't have to be for you of course(!), but even modern pop music that seems vapid on the surface always has some kind of intelligent subtext that speaks for its own popularity. Art that can tap into the hearts of millions of people at once is powerful, and it takes a special kind of genius to achieve this. That's why I being able to digest different kinds of music is so important to me, and was wondering what you really meant when you said that?

    hey jeffery, thanks for making this video! do you mind if i ask what your iq is? (in terms of a number) i looked you up but wasn’t able to find an exact figure. furthermore, i know iq tests can be inaccurate and show favoritism or bias, so if you instead would prefer to make an educated guess about your own iq, what would the number be?

    • @jefferyford5309
      @jefferyford5309 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I took the WAIS-R IQ exam. It measures up to the 150. The test designers believe anything above that number isn't accurately measurable. I scored 150+ which means I scored above what they believe is even accurately measurable and it put me in the 99.9+ percentile. The WAIS-R IQ exam is given one on one with a trained psychologist. It's pretty lengthy and tests on 8 or 9 kinds of intelligence so it is very thorough.

      @@jefferyford5309 You're right, i may have been neglecting most - if not all - of those. Btw, you seem very comfortable when presenting yourself as a genius. I, however, struggle with that ever since I was identified as a 'gifted kid'. I feel the need to do the absolute best at everything, which gives me performance anxiety in multiple areas. Because of that, I easily give up on activities such as studying at University (I have dropped out several times), or casually playing board games (against people who are far more experienced.) Logically, it's obvious that even geniuses like yourself need time to acquire new skills, and failing is a natural part of the process. I think that the two first advises are good, but they can only been done if you have somewhat good memory. I recommend the use of *Anki* to memorize things, obviously, but to also learn what are the right questions for you to memorize a fact. This take away of Anki is gonna help you to make those questions while listening and while reading. I'm practicing everyday with *Dual-n-Back* to improve the working memory. Something i do is to never bring my cellphone when i go eat and when i go to my room to sleep. Interesting. First time I heard about *mental syntax* , although I'm currently trying to improve my vocabulary with Anki, I need to do much more to improve the mental syntax because by what I research on this concept, it involves much more than vocabulary.

    Thank you for the thoughtful overview of this topic and your takes on it. I would add "acquire robust analogies" and "learn heuristics". I'd also suggest getting into programming and computer science a bit. In the modern era, programming is more and more a tool for thinking with and expressing your ideas, and there are so many resources out there for learning it with. I'd particularly recommend google colab or anaconda cloud (both have ai assistants, which give varying qualities of advice but can offer decent code examples on various topics), and learning python, because python unlocks OSINT, cybersecurity, data science, machine learning, scripting and deployment, and you can even write backend or frontend web stuffs with it, although for frontend I'd personally recommend javascript, just because it's tried and true. I'd also suggest some games - the zachtronics puzzle suite has a lot of low-level assembly programming type puzzle games spanning from topics like chemistry to cryptography to alchemy to hacking nannites, all with fun storylines. I guess also reading science fiction (and some good fantasy writers, like leguin, who does both), both to expand the concepts you're exposed to in science and in people's imaginations. Oh! and engaging narrative / autobiographical memory, which is neglected in the school system - knowing what you are doing and why, what your purpose is when you set out and learning to tell your own story, can help you focus and motivate you. Mind you some of these (and some of the things you mentioned in this video) are all ongoing areas of learning for me, but I wanted to add my two cents. Oh! I guess I'd also comment generally: one of the reasons to avoid picking on people about grammar is that not all vernaculars use the same grammar, and there are multiple grammars. It doesn't mean not to work on your grammar! It's important to adopt consistent ways of thinking about and referring to things - but when someone is following the rules of AAVE for instance, instead of "Standard" US English, it's not _wrong_, they are literally following a rich and nuanced alternate rulebook. And the same is true of many pidgins / vernaculars / forms of English, such as differences between British and American and Australian and Indian (as in India) English. Some languages are agglutinative, some have tons of conjugations, some have ambiguities we don't, some have distinctions we don't. There are at least two tribes that have dimensional systems of smell language. There's one that doesn't use "left" or "right" but refers to everything in terms of cardinal directions, and apparently has a much better sense of direction than we do on average as a result. Being aware of the way language shapes conception is interesting. Also the biases it introduces (gendered languages typically cause people to describe (and see) inanimate objects in 'gendered' ways, like bridges in German vs Spanish. Part of good listening is developing good empathy and rapport with many different perspectives and walks of life (and finding ways to develop your empathy is an interesting challenge in itself).
