    After playing Dawn of War, I actually had no idea Warhammer 40k was mainly a tabletop game. This video was my first contact with the tabletop. After that it was 5 years of failure to get into the game, now here I am, putting the final paint jobs on my third army.

    i think that even a basic demonstration should contain the wound allocation mechanism, because it is very important as soon as there are different models within a unit.

    @jimeronimo It's that way to represent the squad protecting the heavy weapon or special weapons, and we generally take from the back so it represents the guys at the front going down to fire and the guys at the back moving up to take the place

  • @eddieharr
    @eddieharr 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @doggydude227 it does matter. If you shoot a guy in the front and take him from the back then the guy in the front still has range to shoot, when the guy in the back may not have. Also, you should be able to choose who you want to shoot, like which model, the one with this gun or that. Adds more strategy, and makes way more sense.

    @Cwafter you don't need to get citadel paints but i recommend at least getting the citadel washes. a set of paints and three brushes from anywhere else (you must get acrylic paints. don't skimp out for the low-quality stuff) that'll run you maybe 25-30 bucks. so with two armies, rules books, all the equipment you need to get started might cost you in the neighbourhood of 150. it's a great investment and a respected hobby. it does get expensive when you really get into it

    Sorry about the language, no disrespect meant =) Tyranids fighting is powerfully instinctual, like a spider leaping on a fly. So there is very little thought involved, very little need for them to train to focus on what they are doing because they already do it as best as they can. Also alot of the weapons fire living creatures. For example: Fleshborers fire beetles that have "flea like legs" and propel them towards the enemy and can then stear them towards their target. Hope that helps =)

  • @ThexElitexPanda12
    @ThexElitexPanda12 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Any newbies playing, make sure you are actually playing SIXTH edition, because it is a little more complex (due to only one saving throw, no allocation of wounds [special rules over rule this], etc.) Along with many other nice features to the game.

  • @keilduan
    @keilduan 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know if someone's already made a comment about this, but in 6th edition (latest version of the game for you who don't know), you can't remove any models you like when you're being hammered by gunfire. You have to remove those closest to the firing enemy, and this is just realistic, since those guys at the front would most likely get shot down before the guys who are further to the back. Though, this game isn't all about the bureaucracy of the rules .Besides, this vid might be from 5th ed

    points are kind of like supplies...in a way...."a squad" takes of 50 points(by no means is this near any real number) and the battle limit is 1000 points, so you have used 50 points so you have 950 left, you also bring in 3 tanks and they take 300 points, and so on and so forth until you have a 1000 point army it ensures that you are entering the battlefield on equal terms w/ your enemy

    i suppose but there is one thing that nobody can fault GW on, they got balls for raising the prices again and when they eventually go bankrupt they will have left a huge influence on the hobby and left people a lot of happy memories.

  • @Colin1486
    @Colin1486 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    it is the best way to do it, yes the game is expensive, everyone hates GW prices, the mechanics work very well, creates a very good balance. Read myklcoz's comment regarding measurements and you will see why a simple grid system wouldn't work, along with the ways you move figures etc
    After a few games, you get used to the distances so you measure less and less, once you get used to the weapons you just know when they are in range etc.

    That's true. But Tabletop is also infinite replayability. And also infinite maps to play on. :) (And there's 14 factions to play)
    But you don't get any paints or brushes in the Assault on Black Reach. Just modells, and do you know how much 2750pts is in Tabletop? You get two armies on about 600 points.

  • @abc114able
    @abc114able 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheMineCraftingGinge Well technically, it depends on if you like sci-fi or fantasy the best. Now if you can't decide which one you prefer, you could go into 40k and pick space orks, who all typically have axes and swords. If you strictly like fantasy, you could go with fantasy, and if you strcitly like sci-fi then you could go into 40k.

  • @Svelok
    @Svelok 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not quite. You compare the attacker's Strength to the Defender's toughness, and based on a table in the rulebook, you get what you have to roll to wound. Once you have wounded, THEN you take the armor save.
    Hormaguants do have an armor save, but the Space Marine weapons had a high enough Armor Penetration value that it was ignored. Therefore, once they rolled to wound, they automatically died.

    Citadel paints and hobby sets are a bit overpriced. Buy any cheap acrylic paint and primer, and an x-acto knife. Citadel glue is pretty good though, but most modeling glues will do fine. Also, in terms of brushes, get a multi-piece pack with varying brush sizes. Also get the Necron codex for army specifics.

  • @hellspawnds

    No, the run move is rolling one dice. The number it shows is the allowed run move in inches. This random thing sucks, and will probably be changed in next edition of the ruleset.

    Well the new Tau codex is supposed to come out next Summer, so you might want to wait. Your call. If you're mainly in it for painting and modelling, check out coolminiornot, there's a lot of cool Tau conversions.

    Look at it this way. You could train your whole life to do some mad kung fu stuff and pinch a stone out of Mr. Miyagi's hand and even catch a fly in mid air in your hand. But a frog is born genetically programmed to catch flies, moths, other insects and maybe even small birds buzzing through the air. And even better than that it can catch them with it's tongue! Because frogs are awesome!

    i wouldnt say it would cost thousands, depending on how long you play, but for a decent army your gonna have to spend a few hundred, however i highly suggest you have people in mind to play against, or a place to go where people play the game, otherwise it wouldnt really be a good use of the money

  • @ninjake3
    @ninjake3 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    yes, or you can opt to not move at all. Some characters benefit from not moving, like a space marine with a missile launcher. When it says 6 inches, that is the maximum that you can move, other then that, there is no minimum

  • @alexdotzko
    @alexdotzko 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @shinmusashi44 neither does warhammer being made out of plastic, you pay for game developers for the video games and warhammer, you pay for artists to create cover art for both. rules being made, distribution for both. People's employment ie. games workshop store employees. It's bassically the same context. People say why spend the money on plastic but you're paying for the game not the actual physical thing.

    Found a mistake: the missile launcher's range is 48 inches not 24.

    Though you must declare which kind of missile you're firing before you do so.

    When this video was made, the defending player got to choose which models were removed.
    But the rules have changed, and now the models closest to the firing unit are removed. So, they would be taken off the front of the squad.

  • @MH4059
    @MH4059 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    im angry at the increase of price but ill still be buying the models. Even the people who say there never going to buy GW stuff again will end up buying new models as the new edition,codexes and miniatures come out they will get back into the hobby no matter what the price is

  • @YuriPRIMErpg
    @YuriPRIMErpg 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    thats why they have the longest shooting range. High tech =/= power. You can arm a man with a world war 2 T-34 cannon and build a tiger tank arround him (pretty much typical space marine) and he'll be still deadlier than one with G36 assault rifle and fanciest shit you can pullout nowdays. I would really recommend reading through Deathwatch RPG by Fantasy Flight Games they made a lot of explaining about how Tau live, think and what philosophy stands behind their tech and weapons

  • @alexdotzko
    @alexdotzko 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @saintmichaelsarmoury Yeah i know i'm not disputing that I'm actually saying that there is more to it then that just like there is more to warhammer then just buying the plastic models designers and employees have to get paid which is where the majority of money goes to for both so although the physical cost of the plastic is small for both the price of the finished product comes from the development of it.

  • @ArchangelTyrael

  • @Malfashoud

    @jackh337 Try looking up other producers, and making a "counts as" IG or tyrnaid army (for example).
    You won't be able to go to any tournaments with it (mostly) but friendly games work out well. Try Urban mammoth or warmachine for models (though both are still "quite" expensive), or just go on ebay. Lots of cheap minis to be bought there as long as you have the time/patience to do some paint-removal.

  • @Slovflyer
    @Slovflyer 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Funny, I feel similarly. Table-top wargames always appealed to me, but watching it play out *feels* about as exciting as putting together furniture hehe. Now with that said, I enjoyed playing Magic (MTG) and Battleship: Galaxies which I newly bought. A PC version might seem "smoother/fun" but then loses the appeal/feel of real physical models. What to do!? I always wished for a hybrid: a PC app to manage the "boring" rules, so you can concentrate on the fun and tactics in the physical realm!

    This actually looks pretty cool in concept, but since there is so much minutia involved (table values, statistics, etc.), I'd say it would be better as a RTS computer game. I know the appeal is probably in being with your friends, but I would still prefer a PC version.

    @kingdomaster Any new Ps3 or Xbox 360 game being sold in Canada. The regional disparity of prices between us and the united states is ridiculous; you're looking at about 59.99 to 69.99, plus tax... which just about crests the $80 mark, whereas the US gets new games at closer to 49.99. Just compare the GW prices in Canada to the ones in the US, then compare the actual conversion rates. Something doesn't add up.

I highly recommend an assault on black reach starter kit even if you don't plan on starting with orks or space marines. that's about 120 starter kit. then go buy some highly viscous hobby glue from another store. mine is almost like water that you brush onto your models and it glues very well. don't get globby glue if that makes sense. 8-10 bucks there. then some brushes and paint
