been watching so many videos video claiming to teach 40k 10th edition, including many big channels recommended by subreddits etc - however this is without exception the easiest to follow. In particular, thank you so much for taking the time to actually enunciate your words clearly, particularly with unfamiliar jargon. It is such a simple thing, but has such a big impact on how understandable the content is. Thanks
@@grumbo8634 You're either lying or a confused fearmonger if you think you need to be upper-middle class. Also, studies show that about 40% of people are middle class in England right now. Same for America. Anybody in middle class can easily afford GW. If you adjust for inflation, GW prices are not too far beyond where they should be, if you judge by 2006-ish prices, for example. Depending on how you define 'sustainable', you can create a full army, paints, and PDF file, etc. for 10th edition in just one year, costing about $/£600. That's decent for all middle classes and a fair amount of the working class. Already, average hobbies cost about $/£300 per year if you look at many studies for things like sports clubs and video games. I saw a study that showed the average UK child spends £500 per year on their main hobby. Unless you have many other costs in life, you can easily justify £500 per year if you include Christmas gifts and such, too (which is not uncommon). That only makes it about £30 per month, which is already the standard for things like video games and TV subs across pretty much all society and classes. Granted, if you cannot do £500 per year, then you will struggle. But, if you just want one army forever, then you only have to do this for one year, not every year. Following this logic, you might just need to spend 2 years building your army, and that's the end of it. That means, you only need about £250 per year. That's easy for almost everybody in the main GW countries (England, America, France, Canada, etc.). I know this because I spend about £500 per year on my hobbies overall (not just GW, to be clear) and I'm poor. But, I don't have iPhones or anything, nor PS5, etc. So, if you have 2+ hobbies, then you will struggle with GW, but that's your choice/fault, and has nothing to do with GW prices. Clearly, I have a Switch. That's quite costly, but it's decent, over a 12-month period. It's all about where you want to put your money. If you mean, 2+ big armies, and endless paints, etc., then you're looking at £500+ per year, for sure. 10th edition should be a bit cheaper than 9th, overall, but who knows. Either way, if we just say you want £800 per year, that's still within the range of the middle classes, let alone upper-middle classes. You just proved that you don't know anything about average incomes or UK spending habits. I bet the U.S. is not really any different. The upper-middle classes have like £50,000+ per year. The lower-middle classes have about £30,000. That's actually really good these days. That's many millions of people. 10% of UK have £10,000 per year (lower class, etc.) and 10% have £70,000 (upper class). That itself is millions of people. That means, about 70% of UK population has income between £20,000 and £60,000. That's almost middle class to the very top of upper-middle class. That's like 42 million people. Note: If you're in AU, CA, or otherwise nation, then you may have issues, almost entirely due to shipment tax, etc. But, if you judge from UK/base prices, it's not too much of an issue. It's no worse than supporting your PS5 collection or Golf club, or even 4k Blu-ray collection. In short: your statement would be correct if you said, 'anybody in the UK lower-middle class or above has no problem creating a massive GW collection, with only a small percentage (20%?) of the working classes struggling with the hobby'. Of course, a large percentage of them already have their spare income taken care of, but that's a choice they made, and has no bearing on GW prices. You choose to have an iPhone, or a car, or a PS5, or a Netflix sub, or a problem with smoking or drinking, or a costly dog, and/or gym sub. Many GW fans spend ALL their money on GW, so it's a non-issue for them, almost regardless of income. The only way your comment makes any sense, is if you mean, 'a man with 3 kids, 2 cars, a fairly typical job, dogs, smoking, TV subs, and other hobbies struggles to collect massive amounts of plastic from GW'. Well, you're likely right about that, but that's not what you said. And, that still doesn't prove that GW prices are too high. Nobody ever claimed that you should be able to have 2+ hobbies and still buy Warhammer. Nowhere is that written. GW prices are largely determined by the market, and it seems to be going fine (it is a bit beyond where it should be, once you adjust for inflation, but there are about five reasons for that, only one of them is greed. Of course, it's not a crime for a company to be greedy. It's literally their job, or one of their jobs). P.S. It's innately a luxury hobby. It's tiny plastic men, which requires great talent and resources, and a lot of spare time on the player's end. Nothing about this screams, 'natural right' or 'working classes'. It's like Golf: it's made for rich people with a lot of free time. There is no reason to assume that the entry should be extremely low. I don't even understand how that could work. Golf doesn't have low entry. It has a club system, it demands certain sportsmanship, and a great deal of support (millions per year at the better courses, which already cost 10+ million to build). On top of that, you have to spend a lot of money on specialised tools (clubs and gear). It's impossible for Warhammer to be much cheaper; otherwise, it would be under the inflation rate, which makes no sense. Following this logic, you think GW prices should have been low from the very beginning. If you look at 2005 prices, they were very high, adjusted for inflation. You have to put it into full context, and also take into account the wider market, and where you're spending your money. You're just demanding that they cut their profits, so you can buy cheaper models. Why would they do that? Ideally, I want the large boxsets to be £40, instead of £100. But, £40 in 2005 would be about £80 today. That means, they wouldn't really see profits, which they require for all their workers, new designs, new games, events, novels/library, moulds, artists, stores, shipment, and otherwise. Unless you just mean, it should be £80 for a big set instead of £100. That's fair, but it still begs the question: why is £80 acceptable if £100 isn't? It's only £20 extra for an entire hobby/army/game, that can last you years. What people really mean is, 'I want big sets to be £50, like they used to be'. That's just delusional. At best, you can get them for about £60 (which is where they were at in about 2012-ish), which would crush their profits, so you cannot demand they do that. Is it 'too much', though? The market decides that, not me or you. You can only say, 'I'm unwilling to pay for it'. That's fine. Don't buy it, then. You cannot demand they sell it cheaper just because you want to buy it for cheaper. That's not how it works.
Throw a few extra scraps to Fletcher in the dungeon because those models are GORGEOUS!!! You guys did an amazing job on this and beautifully put together by Beard. Really excited for this new edition of WH40k!

And it’s still only half the length of other similar videos. Nice job!!
Hey guys ! Just want to say thank you for the video as I am in the process of making my first homebrew chapter / a tyranid force to begin playing games with my dad ! The lore has interested me for a long while now so I'm exited to finally have both 10th edition starter boxes and to be almost finished painting my marines at this point ! New edition, New Riffs!!! Love it guys. Thank you for maintaining the utmost professionalism whilst clearly BOTH struggling to contain your excitement 😂😂
So excited. My first edition playing from the start. With 10th i hopefully can get some of my friends into the game aswell and this video is definitly a good starting point for some of them.
I'm absolutely brand new to this hobby. I'm almost finished painting and found a group of people to play with. Painting part was easy for me. But playing was a little scary. This video helped me so much. Thank you. I doubt I could play a full game from just watching this. But having the visuals to go along with the core rules really helps
Absolutely amazing tutorial. I had watched a lot of Play On Tabletop's content but their tutorial video skips over a lot of important detail. I've been familiarising myself with the core rules/indexes of the armies I'll be running, and even had a friend take me through a practice round or two in Tabletop Sim. With that small amount of experience and having played games similar to this in the past (D&D etc.) I'm fairly confident I could carry out a game - with the rules/indexes nearby of course - but it's really nice to see it played out step by step and explained properly in practice. Subscribed! :)
Thank you for doing this! Super helpful for me as a returning player who hasn't touched a rulebook in 25 years Also, I've noticed that almost all 40k videos have this nutkicking hardrock soundtrack to them. I'd like to suggest some smooth or acoustic jazz for your next video. Why not? Hardrock is grimdark in image only. For some truly grimdark music look no further then the grim darkness of the improvisational working musician.
Wow these tyranids are gorgeous, amazing work Fletcher well done !! Is there a painting tutorial for the future ? I'm still thinking of a new army scheme for my old tytys, and this one seems perfect ! Thank you Tabletop Tactics great content as always !
Awesome video overall! It helps that you explained the rules as you went along. While the energy was pulled back, one could tell that you two were having fun. Couple of critiques: -The AP system feels simple to understand for us veterans of 40k. However, saying “this is AP -2 which makes my 2+ save a 4+ save” confuses those who are new. I know it’s a shorthand we use but for an intro video, you could say something like “AP modifies the dice roll, not the characteristic. Rolling a 2 against an AP -2 weapon turns that save roll into a 0. So I need to roll a 4 or higher to pass my armor save.” You’d only need to mention it once and people would be able to catch on. -Army rules and stratagems are extra layers that are fun and flavorful but for an intro video, it can create confusion because you’re trying to explain how the game works. I recommend mentioning them but not using them to keep the flow moving from phase to phase. Keep up the great work and thanks for the content!!
I do miss the Psychic Phase as a concept... Having said that, it is nice to streamline the order of play and being honest, it's not like the spells have really gone. Great video guys, looking forward to playing 10th!
I just got a CSM combat patrol tabletop ready, and have planned to play my first game on Saturday. Thanks for the tutorial guys, I feel allot better about the rules I know going into the game now!
Wonderful video guys! As someone who has never played, I find this video very easy to follow (compared to other similar videos) and top of all - very entertaining!
Really helpful even as someone who has played for many years past editions(just haven’t played 10th as I was bogged down finishing school this year). I jusst have 2 questions if anyone knows. 1) So I’m understanding correctly there is no more core vs heavy vs elite unit designations for detachments? Just at least one character(and the rule of 3) is the only limitation? Last time I was playing 9th I specifically got a squad of core troops (intercessors) because I was required to have 3-5 core for the detachment I wanted, otherwise I would have had to forgo using one of my elite units and only use 2 core. If I am understanding correct the rule now is just at least one character+whatever you want (but no more than 3 of a datasheet). If that’s the case that’s way better. 2) by faction keyword I am assuming that means yhe superfactions - like “Imperium” count? Like I could use a sisters model within an army of Dark Angels or no? Btw that is a beautiful blue paint scheme you guys have for your ultramarines. It looks nicer than the regular blue by being just a tad more vibrant. Could’ve made a dope successor chapter with that rockin job
Came here because Beard told me to, but he didn’t turn up. Some guy called Joe did 😂❤️ Looking forward to seeing more of your 10th stuff gang. Keep it up!
Nicely done, crew. You clearly put work into this tutorial. Before, during, and after filming. Clear and concise. I’ll definitely be watching again. Cheers.

I've customized a few Warhammer figures for friends, but have never learned how to play. Thanks for a great, easy to understand explanation. I can't for the life of me figure out why instead of using tape measures, the game table isn't set up with some kind of grid though, allowing each unit's movement and attack to be based on spaces instead of inches.

Thanks for the comment! We’re super excited for 10th edition and can’t wait to show even more! - jinx
I love how you did the editing of this video it made the instructions much clearer for the viewer. Well done gentlemen!!!
So excited. My first edition playing from the start. With 10th i hopefully can get some of my friends into the game aswell and this video is definitly a good starting point for some of them.
That’s exactly what I want to hear!! Thanks for watching
- Beard
Love the entertaining and simplified delivery of this tutorial. As a noob, I was able to follow along. Many thanks. Subscribed!
I swear I just listened to pinky and the brain play warhammer 40k.
Extremely excited about this - looks like 10th edition will be a real step forward!
It sure seems to be! We’re very excited here at TT HQ
What are the most exciting changes?
Absolutely amazing tutorial. I had watched a lot of Play On Tabletop's content but their tutorial video skips over a lot of important detail. I've been familiarising myself with the core rules/indexes of the armies I'll be running, and even had a friend take me through a practice round or two in Tabletop Sim. With that small amount of experience and having played games similar to this in the past (D&D etc.) I'm fairly confident I could carry out a game - with the rules/indexes nearby of course - but it's really nice to see it played out step by step and explained properly in practice.
Subscribed! :)
Amazing Job as always, cant wait to see 10th in a full report now!
We can’t wait to show you!
Thank you for doing this! Super helpful for me as a returning player who hasn't touched a rulebook in 25 years
Also, I've noticed that almost all 40k videos have this nutkicking hardrock soundtrack to them.
Maybe… 👀
that paintjob on the tyrannids is amazing!
Great guide lads, so hyped for 10th
All aboard the hype train!
10:14 one of each of these units* I spent ages making armies with Guilliman OR Calgar, didn't realise I could have both
NIce work Beard!! Despite some stuff Im still worriying about Im super hype about the new edition
Hype for the hype god! Beard did do a good job with this one didn’t he?
Awesome video overall! It helps that you explained the rules as you went along. While the energy was pulled back, one could tell that you two were having fun.
Couple of critiques:
-The AP system feels simple to understand for us veterans of 40k.
First! As always, awesome production quality on the vid and stunning models, specially the Termies!! Well done good sirs 👏👏👏
Thank you!
I do miss the Psychic Phase as a concept... Having said that, it is nice to streamline the order of play and being honest, it's not like the spells have really gone. Great video guys, looking forward to playing 10th!
Thank you! We had our reservations with it too…time will tell!
- Beard
Literally the best walkthrough on youtube for W40k. Thanks, gents.
Alright I'm here. It's three in the bleeding morning but I'm here.
Legend!
Brilliant video. I put my dice down towards the end of 7th edition but I'm now ready to get back in with 10th. Cheers for intro guys
Welcome back!
Ooh, this all feels very new!
- Beard fails his 3d6 Battleshock test
Ah no, its business as usual 😂
Consistency is key in this game my friend. 😅
- Beard
@@tabletoptactics Never change, sir. Never change.
I just got a CSM combat patrol tabletop ready, and have planned to play my first game on Saturday. Thanks for the tutorial guys, I feel allot better about the rules I know going into the game now!
Loving that nid scheme!
Fletcher painting tutorial on it at some point...?
Watch this space!
Bugs look fantastic in the dark scheme and the blues just look so clean. Great job on the video, best ive seen on breaking the rules down
Who is Joe? What have you done with Beard?
This is Joe clone, updated with all the new rules!
This was easily the most well done tutorial I’ve seen for any table top game. Very well done. Just got a new subscriber.
The music while trying to concentrate is doing my head in
Old school 40k fan here looking to get back into the game, it's changed a lot since "my day".. This video was an excellent primer, thank you!
Splendid!! Welcome back, and hope you enjoy the content we have coming up to help you ease back in 👍🏻
- Beard
Wonderful video guys! As someone who has never played, I find this video very easy to follow (compared to other similar videos) and top of all - very entertaining!
I have zero experience or knowledge of Warhammer and this video was great for informing me as well as seeing the excitment as the game goes on.
Some guy called Joe did 😂❤️
Looking forward to seeing more of your 10th stuff gang. Keep it up!
🤣🤣 thanks for watching!
Nicely done, crew. You clearly put work into this tutorial. Before, during, and after filming. Clear and concise. I’ll definitely be watching again. Cheers.
Awesome to hear. Thank you for watching!
Just adding to the whole group of people that are saying how helpful this is.
I’d like a whole mini series on this, just overall explaining abilities, different armies and strategies for them, and actually PLAYING the game while explaining. So helpful I am excited to play
Thank you! Yeah, I’ve been thinking about how to expand it already…
- Beard
Brilliantly explained chaps, many thanks!
God damn you guys NAILED the paint scheme on these nids, theyre gorgeous.
This was great. Brand new to the hobby, and a little bit intimidated by the complexity of the game (I just love the models and painting stuff). Thank you for making everything seem so simple
Thanks!
Thanks for the support!
Long Time Watcher of the Channel and gotta say I thoroughly enjoyed that
Best 10th video I’ve seen today, fun to watch and hit the main points.
We win! Cheers Matthew, glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for this video.
I started getting 40k models maybe 3 years ago. Never played a game. You guys and 10th is exciting enough that my minis will soon be getting into the thick of it.
Great video!
That’s awesome to hear!! The core rules are available now for you. Hope you have a great start gaming! Come back for more 10th content soon 👍🏻
- Beard
Love how much these guys are enjoying playing.
I love the explanation, very easy to understand, and slow enough for me to keep track of what happening. Currently working on a 2000 point necron army and can't wait to start!
I loooove the painting on the nids, very well done!
Probably the best video i've seen like this. Sent it over to my father. Recently retired, hoping he will get into 40k with me.
Love to hear that. We hope lots of new players will join in this edition. Happy hobbying together!
I love... LOVE the new Leapers... my Tyranid Army soon will have some of these beautys and i will make good use of them.
New cards and rules looking crisp clear and lovely. Also great production and explanation lads. I've a feeling you're gonna really pop off this summer.
Thank you!
Exactly what I needed. TH-cam needs to move you guys up my search result lists higher, not that its your fault. Perfect content!
Thank you TT, I definitely needed this, I was on the brink of quitting but you've changed my mind
Really interested in how battleshock plays out. My sense is in turns 4 and 5 there will be endless battleshock rolling which will get really swingy on the objectives. Battles will let us know.
Thanks for this, excitement increasing. Little bit disappointed Jinx wasn't playing Tyranids, perhaps when all of the new box set is painted?
Don’t worry, she’ll be commanding a full force in the new scheme shortly!
The quality on this is immense! You all should feel very proud! What influenced the decision to go with a new Tyranid scheme? I always thought your brown and yellow scheme was very unique and interesting. New one is cool too tho!
Myrmidon was updated with different painters over a long period of time so we wanted them to be consistent again. Also Fletcher has totally brought them to life with his brush skill 👌🏻
- Beard
Amazing paintwork on the models
Great video.. wish it went all the way to the end of turn 5 with the step by step.. I'll check out the battle reports next!
Some of the most beautifully painted Ultramarines i've ever seen. And the Tyranids as well!
U lads were born for this, bloody brilliant work 🤙🏼
Absolutely fantastic, this really helped me get a feel for the new edition and get back into 40k after a massive hiatus. Keep up the good work guys
Can we stop for a minute and appreciate how good the music in this videos is? Pretty good I'll say
😎😎
@@tabletoptactics about the music, what's the name of the metal track? I was looking for it in the end credits, but it's not there!
This was a great watch for an aspiring new player who has grabbed a considerable number of deathwatch marines. I consider it a bonus that you had the energy and style of Aunty Donna.
Those models are just......STUNNING!! Holy cow!!!
Fletcher did a stunning job 🤩
Here for Beard! This was a great intro to 10th guys. Thank so much for sharing.
i think this is the first how to play video that actally explains how to play lol, must just barrel through the rules and processes and just end up being a regular play video with little explanation. thank you for the new folk.
Really looking forward to finally playing a game after collecting for 20 years 😂. This videos really helpful thanks guys!
Welcome! we hope you love it!
An amazing video, thanks guys :)
Great video guys. I now know where to direct people who are interested in getting started. But I'll have to warn them about tempering their nascent painting expectations - Fletcher has done an incredible job!
Awesome to hear. Thank you!
- Beard
You guys deserve a lot more subs and views!!
Perfect!
Great work all but especially Beard. 👍👍👍
Absolutely amazing video, well explained and thought out. going to buy my first set and try it out thanks to this
