I started coloring about 5 months ago and fell in love. Was coloring a vine wreath and went too far with the background in the middle of the wreath and thought I had ruined it forever. Joined your group and began watching your 8 part series this morning and picked up tons of "stuff". However, when you showed the blending with mineral spirits and such you saved my project. I continued coloring the center of the wreath and when I finished, I used Vaseline ( had a tiny vacation size container for another project and decided it didn't work and but it aside.) However I learned from watching you and I used it in the middle of my wreath and it's wonderful! Saved my project, learned something I will use again and again and most of all found my bliss. Can't wait to see what's next. P.S. just turned 70 and so I guess you could say you taught an old dog a new trick. Give Rose a snuggle for me.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and hope you turn them into an e-book! I use a nail file (which feels like gentle sandpaper), & use it to to remove colour from my pencil-blender & paper stump. You're absolutely right that a sharpener removes too much core of any pencil, blender or paper stump. I look forward to your upcoming videos. I find them relaxing coz you sprinkle them with your delightful laughter! Thanks for all the work you do, even when struggling with chronic pain. 🤗
Wow, I was waiting for this video and so worth it. I think I will be trying the white pencil and just like you I couldn't figure out the white pencil reason. Now it makes more sense. And also going to try the Vaseline with the colorless blender. That's a neat trick. But most important soon as the stores opens I'm heading out to get the mineral oil, really love that one. This has to be the best video. Learned so much. And a big thanks to Cathren for the link, I'm also ordering one of those. Thanks everyone!
+Patricia Folks (Penink3) glad you liked it so much! I'm going to be doing some follow up videos on this one with actual coloring pages and close ups. So much fun!
And Prismacolor pencils are way too precious to waste!!! Love your videos, they are so helpful! Your voice is so relaxing! Thanks for sharing all these wonderful ideas! Your videos have helped me out a ton! ❤️
P.S. Jennifer, I just wanted to add that I, too, am a chronic pain sufferer, and have just discovered coloring as another distraction from my pain. And your videos have helped me immensely! You are so cheerful and lovely to watch. Keep up the great work!!!
+Cindy Knapper, I'm so glad you enjoy the videos so much. I am also glad to hear that you are finding so much joy and help from coloring. Art is amazing!
Thank you so much. I have watched your gel pen series and am now watching this series. You are fantastic!!!. I was attempting to mimic your samples, however, I could find no vaseline in my house, but I have the glycerin you recommend for blending gel pens so I tried that. It worked, but smeared (I may have used too much) and the paper felt damp for a minute or two. Have you tried using the glycerin with colored pencils? I you have, what results did you get?
I'm enjoying watching this series. You're very talented, and thank you for sharing that talent with us. It's easy to follow what you're doing especially when you demonstrate everything. But, I have to say I have never heard of colored pencils being called "pencil crayons". It sounds so odd to me. Is that an expression from a specific region of the country?
Hi Jennifer, that's a great Video. I've bought a Mineral Spirit, called Zestit. Thats about as Gamsol but a little bit oily. It works great with paper stumps. I often ask myself when i sharpen my Pencils to seperate the dust from them. Maybe you can use it like pastell dust for great areas. I hope you know what i mean. When you are using Gamsol does it bleed through the paper or does it dry completely?
+Marita St., I have thought about saving those little colorful crumbs too! Gamsol can make the paper appear translucent if I am using standard copy paper or if I have used too much odorless mineral spirits but it quickly dries and the paper returns to normal.
Jennifer, I love this video! I was wondering if you have done the video on how to sharpen the blending stumps? This is what I need to know how to do. Thanks so much. You are a great teachder!
I watched another TH-camr use different types of things to blend color pencils and rubbing alcohol worked really well. I even tried it myself with my new set and wow
I have a lot of chronic pain so l really feel for you. Luckily l don't have any pain in my hands. I admire you for pushing thru the pain. I can tell when your hands are aching terribly. It shows in the way you move.l hope l never lose the function of my hands because art is what keeps me sane. I'll always remember how you still manage & manage WELL. Hugs...🤣🤗👍✏️
I got excited too, when l learned about adding baby oil, etc. & l ,too kinda felt like l had been deprived of this technique. I have used 1/12 of my colorless blender pencils since l found them 6 or 7! Months ago. I will buy more on my next art supply shopping trip.
+Katherine Haught, I worry some times about potentially losing the use of my hands some day. I pray it never happens...but for now, I will try to enjoy every colorful minute. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a low pain day. 😊❤️
+Deanna Gearinger, the only time I get this problem is when I am purposely burnishing the layers to get a really deep color effect. I usually embrace the look and just work with it because I seldom lay that much pencil down onto my art. I am researching about it more and will pass on what I learn later. Most of the time when I want a deep color without that build up, I use a colorless blender or the mineral spirits and it is never a problem.
That makes sense. As you have stated, using the mineral spirits allows you to use less pencil to get that vibrant color. I am probably using up my pencils too much if getting a waxy bloom so I am going to work on using less pencil. Also, do you use a sharpener on your pencils? You mentioned using sandpaper so as not to waste pencil lead. What can you tell me about that? Again, loving your video tutorials and love how you use your hands for expression. lol.
I have also used baby oil and Vaseline,. I like how the Vaseline works. i would say it's good on student grade pencils such as crayola. That is what I started out with before I learned of all the wonderful techniques for the artful new world of coloring which I love. Thank you for showing these videos. if it wasn't for these tutorials we wouldn't be broadening our creativity. :-)
+MOODY, I love this comment! It is exactly why Coloring is fantastic. It helps all of us feel like we can try some art and as we love it we start learning more advanced techniques and pretty soon, we have some serious art skills! Awesome!
I too feel like the art work is a bit secretive sometimes and it's so frustrating, how are we to build off one another and have a future supplie of materials, techniques and artwork? Loving your series by the way.
Fantastic vids :) they have opened up a new world of colouring for me! I just wanted to ask. I watched this video and I noticed that while the blending is amazing, I noticed that strokes were not applied. Maybe it's just something I'm missing, could you please clarify? Thanks
+MOODY, blending with markers is a very different experience...it frustrated me at first and still does from time to time. Usually because I am missing some knowledge.
I am curious what's the advantage of using non watersoluble pencils, if they require so much fuss for blending instead of using some watercolour pencils and just blending them with water?
+Brenda Mcgee, I don't think I have seen them at Walmart. You should be able to find them at any art store or craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby or Joanne's.
I agree with you. I belong to many Color groups on FaceBook . Every time you ask someone how the got a certain look they are closed lipped. It makes me so mad.
can u use stumps, orderless spirits, baseline on faber polychromos since they are wax based? I just got a set & don't know if I can apply same techniques I've learned in all your series to my new pencils?? I know you use prisms for your demos & I believe there is a difference? ?? can u give me direction? oh & how to use stumps on them? thanks hon' Catherine
+Eddie & Catherine Falls, so far, every technique I have tried with my Prismacolors work well with my Polychromos. Going forward with my tutorials I will be demonstrating how almost all types of techniques work with multiple pencil brands.
Coloring Pages Bliss tks so very much..I love your series & even bragged on your series in a group when a question came up on a Fbook site 😍 I didn't know how to do a link but directed them thru TH-cam & coloring pages bliss, hope to talk soon Catherine falls
I normally use a blender pencil for small sections and baby oil for bigger areas. Baby oil works really nice with prismacolor ( scholar or premier). You can use baby oil with qtips or cotton. I have also used the oil with brushes in certain areas. I am working on a harry potter coloring book for my channel that will have the background with baby oil effects. Great tips on your video!
Ari Plays anh time. I think You would like a video I have about blending on my channel. Have a great time experimenting with techniques. I make one photocopy of a drawing and experiment there, then I use what I learnt on the coloring book.
Love your videos so much. I did an entire coloring book page with eye shadow last night and it really came out nice. The colors are all subdued and quiet. Watching you is peaceful and using your techniques are enlightening. Be Well, Jonnie
+Anesta King, I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby with a coupon. The most recognizable name brand is Gamsol, but I purchased an off brand that they had and it works great. I know dickblick.com has several brands to choose from too. Good luck!
I agree that the art world has its little secrets but I learnt about it from Lachri Fine Art channel. She uses it all the time as well as a powder which I guess is better without the fumes.
+GLADYS BERRIER, I just filmed a live event video on Facebook where I demonstrated more blending. I will probably edit and post this to TH-cam very soon. 👍😊
thanks I love your videos! I found them a few days ago. Gonna try the thirds tonight at my coloring group. We meet every Thursday from 5-8 at our public library. Maybe you could do a live session one Thursday at this time. Y he ladies would love it . Thanks. I would like to know more about shading where to do it and more about light source and coloring.
From my bag of magic tricks: (courtesy of SuperRaeDizzle...subscribe to her channel. She's awesome!) Try cleaning your blending stumps/tortillions and blending pencils with an eraser instead of sandpaper. Even less waste than sharpening or sandpaper, and I know you're all about conserving those pencils! ☺

I appreciate your tutorials. They are so clear, simple, and great for us novices.
I often use a small paint brush with Gamsol. I am 82 and haven't been doing adult coloring very long and your videos are a great help.
Loved the purple gem at the end. Great tips!
Love listening to your beautiful voice & narration. Plus I love your content. Very helpful, useful, informative, and knowledgeable. Thanks lots!!!

You make learning seem kinda effortless

Fantastic Jennifer! I will definitely be getting OMS and trying this technique immediately! You Rock!
+Felicia Harris, have fun with the OMS...that stuff is like magic!
So real and down to earth...plus great info! Just love her:-)

I really learned a lot from this video. My only suggestion would bring the camera closer to the examples so we can see the difference
thank you for this series I'm new to adult coloring and really found them interesting!!!
+Pamela Sharp, glad you like the videos 😊❤️
Cool techniques, I was wondering with the plastic bag technique, can you use any marker?
It works with a lot of markers. Give it a try!

Thanks so much! Not sure if you touched on this before, but what do you use when you get a wax build up or bloom effect?
+Deanna Gearinger, the only time I get this problem is when I am purposely burnishing the layers to get a really deep color effect. +Deanna Gearinger, check out my video about sharpening pencils for my tips about that. I use my trusty KUM sharpener for that task 😊.
Thank you do much Jennifer! You are my art angel and teacher!
+Margarette Glenn Chong (Margarette Glenn), oh you are so sweet. Thanks for your kind support!
Put a sponge into your little tube of mineral spirit. If it topples over it won't go everywhere. Am loving your videos. Xxx
I have also used baby oil and Vaseline,. I like how the Vaseline works. i would say it's good on student grade pencils such as crayola. +Shana 77 Stitches, yay! I'm glad you like the series 👍
Fantastic vids :) they have opened up a new world of colouring for me! I just wanted to ask. I watched this video and I noticed that while the blending is amazing, I noticed that strokes were not applied. Maybe it's just something I'm missing, could you please clarify? Thanks
+Rachel Gauci, thanks for watching my videos. I'm not quite sure what you are asking...I'd love to help, sorry.
I haven't blended with markers yet but I have with pencils of 2 and 3 colors with white and the blender pencil,. I like both.
+MOODY, blending with markers is a very different experience...it frustrated me at first and still does from time to time. Usually because I am missing some knowledge.
Thanks again for your tutorials cant wait for more.
+Linda Nash, 😊❤️
I am curious what's the advantage of using non watersoluble pencils, if they require so much fuss for blending instead of using some watercolour pencils and just blending them with water?
What was that white pencil/marker that you used to do highlighting on the bottom of your jewel at the end of the video?
+Lynne Bailey, it was a white gel pen or a matte white paint pen. I am planning a video to cover white tools, but I am still researching.
Are the co!or less blenders at Walmart or do you have to go to a special store?
+Brenda Mcgee, I don't think I have seen them at Walmart. You should be able to find them at any art store or craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby or Joanne's.
Could you use the Vaseline with a blending stump?
I agree with you. I belong to many Color groups on FaceBook . Every time you ask someone how the got a certain look they are closed lipped. It makes me so mad.
+Marie Lavasseur, I don't know why everyone is so secretive...it's so much fun to share and lift each other up!

+Eddie & Catherine Falls thanks for sharing my info with your group. It helps a lot. 😊
What grit (#) do you use for your wiping/sharpening of colored pencils & blending tool?
+Lynne Bailey, I used 150 grit 3M fine sand paper I picked up at Walmart. I will be doing a video about it in the near future. 😊
+Chris Kilué, it is so fun to have so many options!
Chris Kilué does the baby oil bleed though the paper? I only have the Johanna basford books and I would hate if it ruined my pages. :)
Ari Plays If you use too many drops, it does. I discovered that vaseline works better, it needs to be little vaseline as well.
Chris Kilué, thank you! I'll try the Vaseline

+tabasco14, so fun to use different coloring tools!! Thanks for watching 😊
These videos are great. Thx 4 mkg them
Please, what size are your Zip Loc containers? I think they might be 2oz
What is the brand of the Odorless Mineral Spirits and where did you get it?
+Anesta King, I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby with a coupon. The most recognizable name brand is Gamsol, but I purchased an off brand that they had and it works great. I know dickblick.com has several brands to choose from too. Good luck!
Coloring Pages Bliss thank you very much. I live in Trinidad and Tobago and I enjoy your channel.

I agree that the art world has its little secrets but I learnt about it from Lachri Fine Art channel. She uses it all the time as well as a powder which I guess is better without the fumes.
can you do gel pins on plastic like that tank you sharing this video
+brandon smith, gel pens don't go onto plastic very well and they don't dry completely. Probably because they are waterbased.
I use mostly Crayolas and I find that laying down the Vaseline with a swab on the piece I'm going to color and coloring over that works best.
That's what I do, I find it easier
+RBdreamsART, thanks for the tips!
please add more videos about blending
+GLADYS BERRIER, I just filmed a live event video on Facebook where I demonstrated more blending. I will probably edit and post this to TH-cam very soon. 👍😊

+GLADYS BERRIER, I have wondered about doing an evening live event. I will consider it. 😊
+GLADYS BERRIER, ok! Is there a particular coloring tool you need help with for blending? Colored pencils, gel pens, markers?
Instead of blending I meant to say shadows where to add them
why did you put that white mark on the gem?
+Felicia Alecu, it makes the gem look like light is reflecting on it. 😊
love...
