Absolutely fantastic video! Cam belt changes are one of those things, very expensive to get someone else to do it for us, even more expensive if we do it ourselves to save money and mess it up. This video is excellent, really informative and shows that really anyone can do a belt change, so long as they take their time, no rush. The 206 8v engine is one of the more simple ones to do and certainly a good one to start on, but like any timing belt change it is easy to mess it up and write off the engine. Thanks for making this video and sharing your knowledge, I am sure many will benefit from it. Gets a big thumbs up from me!

I have just done a cylinder head gasket/water pump and timing belt on my 2001 1.1 206 so this video and the drive belt one came in very handy. I didn't remove the engine mount because I had plenty of room. Thanks for posting.

A fine "how to" guide presented in an easy to follow style. My son was given a 206 with the 1.4 engine and I want to replace the Timing Belt just in case it is overdue. Car runs well. I'm used to working on DOHC engines which are a bit more involved than SOHC ones like this. Even so, nice to have access to this fine guide. Thank you.

Thanks a lot! Quetsion: is it not possible to leave the mount in place but only undo the two bolts that are on the front side of the engine? The ones closest to you. That would also save getting the ECU out of the way. Probably will give you a little less wiggle room around the belt tho.

For piece of mind both flywheel and camshaft should be locked with pins for correct timing.
just noticed that belt was still loose when you refitted it! yikes!

I know this is an old video but I need to do the cam belt, water pump etc on a Citroen C3 which has basically the same engine and layout. Is this something an amature should attempt? I'm worried I'll bugger the timming up. I guess I'll just have to go for it. Wish me luck and thank you for making the video it's very informative 👍

check head is ok first that valves are not bent then carefully bring bottom pulley round to tdc if bottom pulley gets tight turn top cam shaft pulley to tdc if you cannot find marks on top pulley remove first sparkplug and where piston is turn carefully clockwise until piston is tdc use small screwdriver down port to feel . make sure the cam on one piston is closed both cam heels are facing up and level across then you have tdc ready to fit your belt.

Very easy job, i didnt need to take off the engine mount etc as there is enough room to get in, My 1.4 8v had a different tensioner, but still easy to work out.
All the parts inc water pump cost £55 garage wanted to charge £250, no special tools required except a pin to lock the camshaft and a bit of white paint.

    • @eduardovelasquez5673
      @eduardovelasquez5673 10 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Stu,timing belt 120.000kms says the manual under normal driving 80.000kms under severe driving (city) or every 5 years. I'll let you to do conversion to miles, besides there is an online manual for 1.4hdi engines PSA group citroen and Peugeot, and you can also DL the Ford fiesta 1.4 TDCI engine service manual, it is the same engine. Water pumps with good coolant 50 to 50 ratio should last at least 120.000kms, with proper tensión on the belt, if you avertighten the timing belt this creates too much load on the wáter pump bearing, leading to premature failure, there is a tool to measure the right tensión, but it is expensive and hard to find it measures in SEEMS (they are french, they have to do it their way) but you can look very carefully how much tensión the belt have, taking note it is a stretched one, a new one should be a bit tighter, but with use it will stretch about 0,4 centimeters.

I've read that Peugeot since merging with Fiat Chrysler that they plan on coming back to the U.S. and sell cars.
If Peugeot does they need to learn from Fiat's mistakes now that they are planning to stop selling their Italian brands in the U.S. due to declining sales.
Here are some key items Peugeot will have to meet in order to be successful in the U.S.
    1. American's do not like diesel engines for powering their cars, only trucks.
    2. American's do not like small displacement for cylinder engines like Europeans do because gas is much cheaper in the U.S. than Europe.
    3. American's hate timing belts on engines because they have to be replaced and prefer timing chains on our engines and car manufactures that once used belts have gone back to timing chains.
    4. Most European brands including the largest, Volkswagen have a poor reputation for reliability and are expensive to repair.
Fiat's sales in the U.S. declined steeply after reentering the U.S. market after a few short years after negative feedback online from owners of Fiat's 500 and their Alfa Romeo brand products.
Now Fiat is pulling out their Italian brands from the U.S. market because of poor sales.

dear publisher, you shouldn't fix the timming belt tenser like that you did in this video, the manual says that you have to tighten it then adjusting its tens by hanging a 1.5 KG whieght while fixing it through the square open in th tens ... I will explain it here:
1- put a squre metal rod in the square openning in te tens belt
2- attach a rope with a hanging wieght of 1.5 KG
3- tight the tens then slowly loosen it untill the 1.5 KG wieght is shown perpendicular to the ground then tighten the tense nut.
4- if you don't make it like that, you will move the water pump ax with extra timming belt tighten which leads to corruption of the ax inner part and cause leakage of coolant fluid as it happened to me.
    regards

I have called the dealership to change the distribution and they tell me that being such an old car (1999) they will surely have to order the spare parts from an external distributor to find them.
I take them there so they can put original parts on me, not what they intend to do.
