Can't tell you how excited I was to see this pop up on my recommended list. I basically hate minis, because I want to hear an entire song, not just a snippet. But this time they managed to give us a short but really complete song and I've been listening to it on repeat since they released it to their patrons weeks ago. So, it was extra goodness to be able to listen to your analysis and confirm that I was right to be blown away by the audio as well as the fun visuals they managed to cram into this small amount of time.
While I heard this as a preview on VoicePlay's Patreon, I hadn't really paid (enough) attention to Geoff's lows and didn't realize he was dropping G1 chest notes like they were on sale at the bargain counter!
I think Eli's laugh at the end is my favorite bit because his expression just makes me giggle. The whole song is great, of course. Nothing less expected from Voiceplay.
Love this. VoicePlay are already the "theater kids" of the a cappella world, but somehow they manage to be even more Extra in these shorts, especially Cesar and Layne. 😁 (Or maybe it just seems like more because it's not a whole music video, which we already expect to be epic.) I like seeing them get to be silly while never being less than masterful. Aeolian cadence! Peter Barber has talked about that on some of his videos, and I always forget how they go, but this might be an auditory reference that will stick with me. It's amazing how you always know exactly what note you're hearing without having to plunk it out!
I think that offbeat 'go' was also to give a place for the 'pop' sound Layne made to 'put the eye back in'. So a bit of extra feel of waiting to emphasize the visual trick as well as making the line more interesting.

I love their shorts. They're just too short! By the way Anthony's name is said as Garjoola. Not too hard. I've only heard him singing high before so this was a surprise. I'm not sure they do pitch correction. I do hear, especially with Geoff, some alightly pitchy notes. I sitll have no idea what makes a section "dubstep".
I wish they would do "I Wont't Go Huntin' With you Jake (But I'll Go Chasin' Wimmen") Ii WAS DONE ORIGINALLY (stupid caps lock) by Jimmy Dean about a bazillon years ago.
Knowing nothing about the details of music and voice (or voiceplay, prior to the release of this on YT), you did give me an understanding of why Geoff's voice is coveted, though to me it still just seems a bit extreme and hard to groove to as a solo sound. You did, however, hone in on what got me hooked harder than that whale ... Eli's "really sweet riff down" ... as well as his work at the end. OMG.
