  • This was an interesting process… who knew that in order to prep a polyurethane body part you had to use these two commonly found household items. I wanted to make sure that there weren’t any missed spots because In the next coming episodes we will be getting closer to spraying our paint. Stay tuned there’s lots that’s going to happen!

Just ordered a is300 kbd kit and am looking to paint. Have you painted the car and can confirm the finish looks good after with these steps yet? I’ve read you need a special flexible infused paint and that some people have had paint chipping if not prepped correctly

I have not yet painted it but I believe the primer must be a different kind of primer from the regular stuff that does on metal.
The paint could be the same, I will post a video on paint. Hopefully it comes out nicely.

I'm not sure if you still need an answer, but I spray these kits regularly.
A couple things. The kit has to be fully cleaned back and front so there is no contamination from the release agent from manufacturing.
The bumpers have to be fully formed and you need to spray a plastic adhesion promoter and a flexible primer. Once that's done you can use regular paint and clear. Another thing no one mentions is that when installed, people leave bolts or screws and support pieces missing allowing the bumper to flex a heap while driving around. That will crack the paint too.@@laughchaser6939

Have you dealt with any of the paint flaking ? Planning on getting mine painted but I hear kbd has issues of flaking

I have dealt with paint chipping unfortunately. Mostly on the side skirts but I will be changing those to something along the lines of fiberglass as it’s more rigid and would fit better than the polyurethane

@@velocitygarage damn 😭 I want to rock fiberglass but have dealt with issues of it cracking from rocks and shit vs poly being indestructible I might just do wrap to match the car then instead of paint
