In Mexico, some homes don't even have doors, this has been a serious issue for me now that I live in America. This video has been extremely helpful. My loved ones will be very proud of me when they see that I can open doors effectively and with grace.
Doors are the white man's invention tied in with inquisition and all that jazz, stick to your traditional open frame design or perhaps the sliding curtain or beads, it will allow for better ventilation and health of both mind body soul and building.
The cinematography, set and costume design, the score and acting are just brilliant. This scene is an audiovisual masterpiece and literally opened many doors.
Maybe there was a 2 years long study process behind this with a research team to find this out, doing field experiments and to be able to write a 1000 sides big documentation (translated in many European languages), that resulted in this short video. All maybe paid by the EU.
This is a bit of a dated technique but this video is great in showing how far the sport of door opening has come over the years. In the past door openers focused more on skill and precision, as seen in this video. Modern door opening, however, focuses more on raw power and speed. As in any sport, it’s always difficult to compare the greats from different eras.
Personally I feel the rotation is redundant I like to close the door behind me with my left hand, no turning around; this guy is pretty good but still amateur
Yeah when they introduced the new regulation changes and removing the 8 step technique to the 3 step technique to reduce Carbon Emissions, this shows how much the sport has evolved
@@tremblence Ah, while you may be correct. A door judge may give you less points for style and aesthetics. Style is half the sport, and this finnish door instructor has quite a lot of style. He is a talented individual we should take notes on how to step up our door game. Many olympic greats have taken steps out of this instructional video as it clearly shows beauty, speed, and precision.
Door opening was ruined by all those performance enhancing drugs. These days, I can't be bothered watching even the world championships. Now it's all about money, sponsorships from Big Door, and viewer ratings.

Guys, this is a lot harder than it looks, don’t be fooled and take your time. It may seem cliche to say this but this guy is a seriously trained professional and has probably practiced this thousands of times. Stay safe everyone.
The exceptions were not mentioned. In some cases, knocking is required before opening the door. The other exception is the door fling when catching a cheating spouse in the act.
I live in Japan and I still struggle with their ”sliding door”. I have big issues with it. I tried following the steps in the videos but I just cant seem to figure it out. When I followed the steps from this video and tried looking confident I ended up breaking the door and falling on the floor. Can someone please help me with this issue?

Great instructional video. When we were kids in the 60’s it was a three step process. First there was opening the door. Secondly; stepping through the door in one fluid motion while finally closing the door immediately behind oneself so as to have the door closed before a parent could shout “close the door”
That foot step-swerve-flick combo is not easy. Only few have been able to do it. I've been training for over 17 years and I still haven't been able to master it. Big respect for this man.
Watching this video showed me where I've been failing. I've been doing foot step-flick-swerve. No wonder I can't get through the doorway. It all makes sense now.
Closing is actually hard and truly needs instruction, judging by all the assholes I've experienced just "throwing" the door shut with a loud noise. The door to a study room with a sign on the door requesting being quiet. I wish this guy had shown it more clearly, his body was pretty much blocking the view to how he did it.
If you’re having difficulties in getting this technique down I suggest an easier variation which involves opening the door fully, letting go of the handle, walking in, then once both feet are through the door way you can turn and firmly grasp the door handle. If you are feeling extra lucky, you can even do a finishing move called “Closing the Door” which involves pushing the door away from you in a similar fashion as you pushed it open. If you can fully get this technique you can begin to move onto even harder techniques and soon you’ll be a professional in no time.
@An On true, that is a good method for beginners, but the techniques involved with automatic doors just don’t transfer into later door techniques, but like you said, it is a good way to build your confidence.
I have one question though. How do you go through a revolving door? I have tried this technique but I still couldn't grasp how one is able to use such a complicated door... Is there a hidden way or technique to go through one?
@@reg3250 the revolving door is a tricky door for even professionals to get down, even the most experienced veterans such as the man shown in the video above find them and the techniques required to use them difficult, so with me being only a semi veteran I can not possibly give you much help in using a revolving door, but if I were to I would just say try entering the door before you do anything else.
As a Dane, I’m embarrassed on our behalf. It seems we’re still ages behind the incredible technological advances of our friends the Finn. I hope we’ll get here someday
The funniest part is that this is indeed an exceptionally efficient way of opening doors, should you be in the situation where you are being chased by someone, movements like this can be replicated within perhaps a second, confusing your enemies with the blinding grace and elegance of how quickly you can slip between the thresholds of reality.
His statistics and facts are so on point and clear - it is obvious he has practiced, researched and mastered this art for many years. I could never imagine replicating his talents.
As a Finn, I have rarely been more proud than right now, having seen this video. We are leaps and bounds ahead of our rival Swedes in using this special space-age technology.
@@Lars._ Yep I visited Amsterdam once. Beautiful modern and old architecture but zero doors. Made me feel nostalgic of the times in Finland before 1979.
You would be suprised how many people need this. Too often in apartments or hotels people open doors as loudly as possible it seems. Use the handles correctly and close quietly helps
People who like dry comedy seem to gravitate towards British comedy, but I've always found the Finns go a step further and leave that comedy in a woodshed for a good two years to properly season. This is a masterpiece, and it gets better with age.
Opening a door is something that has always come naturally to me. Now that I’ve seen the process deconstructed, I’m not sure I’ll be able to do it the same again.
Great Tutorial!! Finally someone shows how to do that. Now I will not be dependent of other people for door opening. The twist before closing seems difficult, but I'm determined to learn that too! Thx
I have always struggled with doors from a young age. It was always so difficult that at some point, my parents decided to remove all the doors from our house (except the front door). After watching this tutorial, I finally learned how to open the door. The problem is now that when I look back at that door, the handle is on the other side. Please help and make a tutorial for how to open the door with the handle on the left side of the door. It's been 8 years and my parents won't let me back in.
Indeed, this is widely thought of as THE benchmark door opening instructional. Hopefully, the recent resurgence of this video will serve to inspire many young future door openers, in Germany as well as other countries further afield.
German engineers cannot agree. German door opening has developed over the years. A big flaw here is the entering of a potential hazardous area without complete visual control. Look up the state of the art procedures. Also consider the developed window the door. this will be replaced by a camera/screen system in the near future(the decision of the board is still pending)
@@Ezio999Auditore the german craftsmanship is so precise, so sturdy that you can seal a room airtight with just wooden parts carved by a master of his craft

A great example of classical Finnish humor: - dry - meta - appears serious - self-ironic - an attempt to do a thing right, to avoid a possible embarassing situation, while in fact creating another, even more embarrassing situation (I'd say the majority of Finnish humor is one or another way based on embarrassment and especially second-hand embarrassment) - you're still wondering if they were serious or joking
That explains why my Swedish friends don't notice finnish humour and think the finn is weird. The humour lost in translation. I my self is half dane and half Swede and notice finnish humor because it's simmular in Denmark. 😂😂😂

@@Auritilien The spin is the ensure that the least bit of your filthy apartment is shown to any possible onlookers. Of course the hall way is always empty when you enter home as you'd made sure it was prior to going into the hallway to begin with. But one can never be too cautious.
No spoilers I’m not there yet
Niin minäkin
Finns have Tango dance moves in their genes.
I can't believe how many years I have been doing this wrong. I'm embarrassed to say I used to just open the door and walk through. Please don't laugh, I didn't know any better.
I know! ;-;
The embarassement must be excruciating
How embarrassing… we know now
Hahaha haha get laughed on
The burning you feel? It is shame.

THANK GOD for TH-cam… until finding this tutorial I’ve had to suffer the horrendous life experience of never being able to open a door or indeed gain entry to the other-side of a door. I had almost given up all hope of leaving my flat and finally, I am free… Thank you Finnish guy 😊👍 x
A great example of classical Finnish humor:
- dry
- meta
- appears serious
- self-ironic
- an attempt to do a thing right, to avoid a possible embarassing situation, while in fact creating another, even more embarrassing situation (I'd say the majority of Finnish humor is one or another way based on embarrassment and especially second-hand embarrassment)
- you're still wondering if they were serious or joking
That explains why my Swedish friends don't notice finnish humour and think the finn is weird. The humour lost in translation. I my self is half dane and half Swede and notice finnish humor because it's simmular in Denmark. 😂😂😂
We Brits love dry humour too heehee
It’s not a joke, it’s a training video.
@@mikeb4535 or is it?!
yeah. i forgot just how much i loved their humour until I've stumbled upon this video. spurdo for the win
