    This is the Super Bowl of accuracy tests for the AK47 - AKM - AK74 - Kalashnikov type rifles (and a visiting Vz58). We put 10 rifles (9x Kalashnikov, 1x Vz58) against each other to see how the do. Which one will come up top? How does "Combat Accuracy" play into this topic?
    Rifles examined:
    1, Arsenal AD SLR107 (Bulgaria) - 7.62x39
    2, Norinco Pre-ban Type 56 (China) - 7.62x39
    3, IWI Galil 32/Ace (Israel) - 7.62x39
    4, Cugir WASR 10 (Romania) - 7.62x39
    5, Arsenal AD AKs74u SLR104UR (Bulgaria) - 5.45x39
    6, Izhmash AK102 / Niner (Russia) - 5.56x45
    7, Vz58 (Czech Republic/ Czechoslovakia) - 7.62x39
    8, Arsenal AD AKs74 / SLR104FR (Bulgaria) - 5.45x39
    9, Izhmash AK103 (Russia) - 7.62x39

    All rifles shown are either purchased by us or on loan. The RS mounts were functional blems that we used. It was our own ammunition that we purchased at full price. I forgot to put that in the video.
    The AK is one of the most prolific designs in the world and it would be difficult to gather ALL VARIANTS at once, but these were fairly representative. Will be using this as a baseline to compare future AK videos to, however. Here are some variants that we foresee people asking about:
    YugoAK... we have one being built right now, but it's not factory anyways.
    Finnish RK95... we *may* have access to a clone?
    Valmet RK62... Ah, I see you think I use $100 bills to wipe, when we get one to look at we'll reference this video as well.
    Hungarian FEG Kalash ... I personally feel like I missed the boat on that one, but to be honest I was focused on buying other models instead. Perhaps one day, I do think the AMD63's are very interesting.
    Check out Klay's Galil Ace: th-cam.com/video/oizlnuDHzcU/w-d-xo.html
    *EDIT*
    I realize that some viewers think that the Saiga line rifles somehow have a worse barrel than military rifles because a separate civilian production line exists like what FN does with their FN-15. That's untrue. My friends from Izhmash they implicitly state that it's form the same barrel source. One stipulation: yes, the chamber for the civilian saigas are different with the crimped neck for Russian law enforcement to recognize the casing that it was fired from a civilian weapon. (which none of these have the civilian barrel identifier crimp, so these are military line rifle barrels). Otherwise it would make no sense for a facility like KC/Izhmash to purchase blanks when their machines are setup to forge them for cheaper. They have a really high end former state-owned arsenal to manufacture ultra high quantities of good barrels for cheap. They are all AK100 series with the signature lightening cuts, CH profile, non-ribbed piston, bump rivet and bolt design. Again, my information is from Izhevsk/ Izhmash directly.

      maybe i got good not beated to death example but that rifle shot damn accurately.
      One buddy actually betted that he can broke that target standing stick with 10 shots.
      If not he will run around that range to 3 laps.
      He needed only 7 shots before that target board fell to ground.
      But what was mentioned in video ammo could had somehting to do with those groups and barnaul

      But... We must also assume that the target really does not want to be shot, and will take steps to quickly get behind cover. And then there's that whole shooting back at us thing. Sorry... Dirty little secret:. The AK-47 didn't survive it's first major conflict (Vietnam).
      The Soviets dropped is and went to the AK-74 in 1974.
      But that was more about cartridge than rifle design.
      The 5.56 & 5.45X39 are vastly superior to the 7.62X39 in virtually every way.
      More accurate (much), twice the effective range (300 vs 500), lighter by far, superior terminal ballistics, and... less recoil for better control and quicker follow up shots.
      Vietnam ended in 1975.
      Soviets basically dumped the 47s on anybody who claimed to hate Americans.
      They are still using the 5.45X39 today. Why?
      It's way better.

    • @hailtothe_rooster1572
      @hailtothe_rooster1572 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      I’m not a youtuber... not a social media personality BUT I do shoot a lot of AKs. I’ve collected 7.62 variants almost exclusively for 20yrs. This isn’t gospel just what I’ve experienced.
      PSA had a bit of magic juju with their FN barrel but the rest of their quality isn’t necessarily the most desirable compared to imports. YMMV and beware the psa mafia that will come screeching for this comment alone.
      I find most other domestic builds usually have the CHF nitride barrel. Maybe they have quality import parts kits but without original barrels. I currently only own 2 in this category but I’ve tried everything. Atlantic kit builds to Riley defense... both are avg for Ak accuracy. However quality is not.
      Quality is sadly your avg American reverse engineered “affordable” approach for full house domestic builds. I prefer options that use parts kits (like Atlantic) for their import internals. I avoid full domestic builds like the plague while imports are on the market.
      I’ve dished out some coin for AKs over the years. I got a meridian defense... glorified romy kit. Nothing special an import can’t be tuned to when it comes to throwing money at it. Looks bitchin but I found other “boutique” builds to be just about the same. I have a Rifle dynamics tuned 107FR. I’d expect the same quality from their full house builds but I believe they use that same CHF nitride barrel. I don’t own one but even for the price tags of those two... it’s really just avg AK performance. Reliable Ak accuracy.
      I’ve not gotten my hands on the KUSA yet. Maybe never will. I’m not trying hard to be honest
      Maybe my time and experience with AKs for all these years I just don’t find anything particularly special about them anymore. They all behave the way they’re supposed within the limits of the caliber. Some will last longer than I can ever imagine and I’ve broken more home brews than I care to remember. I want them to do great and I love the fact more people are getting into AKs but their is a learning curve to the caliber... and most my fellow Americans have proven to be learning disabled

My Mk12 clone (different platform, obviously, but principle remains the same) is very particular about what ammo it uses, with IMI and PMC match giving comparable accuracy to M193 ball, but Hornady and S&B match giving groups about 1/3 the size. Lightweight, ergonomic, compact folding stock, good trigger and clean straight sights. but being that light weight, with a super slim metal stock, and in 762 x 39, I definitely noticed a difference in staying on target for follow up shots. Even at 50 m from standing, a hammered pair was probably twice as slow as with a 16” AR carbine. Never grouped it beyond 5 shots at 75 yards before I sold it unfortunately. They were smaller than my fist for sure. Would’ve been curious.

I run a 2019 UK spec Romanian WS-1 (WASR) which is straight pull in 7.62x39, accuracy with mil spec ammo is the same as you note here but it is capable of 1.5 MOA with reloads using decent 124g projectiles and RS powder and of course when all the planets align! Dont get me wrong, it took a long time to work that up but to be honest, its as much fun putting down the milspec ammo and it wasn't designed to be a target gun :) love it. Keep up the good work.

    I especially appreciate the comparisons of group size over targets at combat distances. I once worked customer service for a firearms manufacturer that made "combat accurate rifles" that got complaints from owners of our riflrs saying that they weren't accurate because they shot 3 inch groups at a 100 yards 🙄. I had to constantly explain that they weren't target or bench rest guns....

    • @CCW1911
      @CCW1911 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Combat accuracy depends so much on the shooter and conditions so you can't fairly use it to compare rifles, it's used mostly by gun writers as a crutch to justify guns that don't shoot as accurate as others. If you want to know which gun has the best accuracy you have to take out the human element as much as possible to have valid results. Not to mention ammunition, but it's fair to use the most common issued ammunition when comparing military weapons otherwise you get cherry picked results.

    • @lucastonoli3256
      @lucastonoli3256 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CCW1911 You're kind of missing the point entirely with that stupid rant. Combat accurate means it can hit a torso on first shot at 400 yards or so, which is often the longest viable engagement range with many of this intermediate cartridge (if you really intend to take your target out after shooting, which you should since you're likely giving away your position and starting confrontation). Yes, mechanical accuracy is important, but the remark wasn't about mechanical accuracy, but about a very real and relevant parameter to determine that a rifle is viable for combat; More accuracy can be good, sure, but not always that important, which is what the second half of the video was about.

    • @jwilsonhandmadeknives2760
      @jwilsonhandmadeknives2760 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@lucastonoli3256 exactly. 4 MOA has long been the standard for combat accuracy, for good reason. Once upon a time a 1MOA rifle was special. Nowadays people have unwittingly fallen into the trap of thinking that 1 MOA is where accuracy begins and it’s simply not true. The average shooter cannot put 10 out of 10 rounds into a pie plate at 100 yards from standing, on a calm day on a quiet flat range. Any rifle with any ammo can do that. Add combat to the mix and even that level of accuracy goes out the window.
