  • Today I'm out inspecting supermarket grocery prices in Phuket for items I commonly purchase. I'm curious to see what prices are like and how they compare to Australia. Are we paying too much for groceries in our home town or are prices reasonable in comparison to Phuket? You decide! Sometimes we complain that Australia is too expensive. Maybe we aren’t too bad here?

My estimate is that Phuket prices are abit more pricey than other areas in Thailand - maybe with the exception of Bangkok

Howdy 👋🏼 i’ve seen prices vary alot. Even in Phuket they seem to bounce around

How much for a pack of Shapes over there? The ultimate inflation test.

Good point. We need to have a global Shapes Index but ☺️ Unfortunately there was no Shapes on the shelf on this instance…I couldn’t find the Tim Tams either

High import taxes. Good way to keep your population away from the unhealthy packaged, foreign foods. Most of that food you can do without. 😅

There’s still alot of packaged goodies at good prices ☺️

It would seem overall very expensive prices in the supermarket for a 2nd to 3rd world country. Wouldn’t think locals shop there but rather expats. Furthermore they were probably all fakes 😂

Some items are considerably cheaper than Australia e.g. Soft drink, beef, pastries. There are also alot of local, alternative products that we consume which would be much cheaper e.g the chips on the Tuk Tuk were less than $1

not many Thai dont shop in supermarkets , they are built mainly for farangs .. Thai go to makro , that is a bigger place and mainly thai shop there . No one shows the way they sell their meat in a real market where it is left outside most of the day and have a fan on top to keep flies away.
It is a 3rd world country , but...the internet is amazing speed
