I have a cut60 first plasma cutter I ever used. I run it off 220. That thing is great. The thickest i cut so far is 5/8 angle and it did great. I learned using a straight edge helps the looks of the cut. This and a portable metal bandsaw are so useful.
I have a model that was sold by Parker years ago, a 60 amp machine that looks exactly like yours and it cut really well until the torch gave out many years after it did a bunch of cutting for me. I would run it up to 90 lbs for heavy stuff like 1/2 inch and it cut great. I used the inline air dryers that I use on my paint spray equipment and find I get probably 50% longer consumable life. Your going to question why it took so long to get a plasma cutter, I did! Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the review, Randy. I'm actually waiting on my CUT50 to be delivered from Amazon/UPS right now. I'm glad you decided to turn the air up while cutting the 1/2-inch plate steel. I'm looking forward to using it and building some things. The one I ordered has an upgraded torch. I think they upgraded the torch to an AG 60P as Pete from Pete's tools confirmed on one of his videos. He didn't seem to have any luck with his CUT50, but that might have been caused in the shipping. Hopefully I'll have better luck. Again, Thanks for the review
A far cry from the heavy jigsaw-like nibbler power tools we used to cut up 1/4 " steel for river narrowboats when I worked in a boat yard for a little while back in 1988
Hi Randy I have both the CUT 50 and 60 I started with the CUT 50 unfortunately knocked it off the bench and it gave up working so I replaced it with a CUT 60 and they both work great. I pulled the CUT 50 apart and re-seated all the boards and the thing came back to life so now I have a spare. I use between 70 and 90 PSI but I don't cut anything bigger than 1/2 inch the 60 will sever 5/8 but with a struggle but all in all I am also really happy for the price you cannot beat it.
I'm on my 2nd Cut50. Only because my first one got stolen. I love them! There are several versions of the Cut50 but all the same basically. Different colors and switch placements but still the same basics. My new one was $150 and some change with tax. It's just incredible and they have amazing capabilities. Very nice review and first time out of the box at that. I think about 60psi would help get thru the thicker stuff and speed is critical. Our several thousand dollar ones at work struggle with 1/4" and they barely move when cutting it. ( CNC Plasma cutting table).
We have a CUT50 we bought 2-3 years ago (fall of 2019) and it did ok 110v us cord but is dual voltage machine(should have read instructions ), we had a fire 🔥 but it was sitting down low and it survived but kept tripping, was about to trash it and looked at back where cord goes in and has a marking "110/220v", popped the plug off the wire and just stuck wires right in our 220v plug. Turned it on, ran, cuts like better than new now, because even new it would trip breaker know think back! After that we took machine apart and installed 15ft of heavy duty wire like cook stoves and welders use and a 220 plug and she is golden!! More air pressure better in our experience!
Randy, UPS dropped it off, I unpacked it, put it together, then fired it up on 120v. I just wanted to make sure it worked properly and it did. It blew the circuit breaker on my power strip after running it for about 10 seconds, but at least I know it works. I'll run it off my generator on 240v once I put a new NEMA L14 30P plug on it.
Nice job in showing this Randy. On a different machine, mine came with .8mm nozzles, so I had a hard time cutting 1/2". So I bought 1, and 1.1mm nozzles, ran it at 70 psi, and made all the difference. Good job in your video setup too!
I have the same exact one you have there except mine came with a different cutting torch. I have no problem cutting thru 1/4 inch. I love the thing. I’m no pro but it is awesome for the do it yourselfer as a matter of fact yesterday I changed out the cord on it with a rigid extension cord. So I have a longer cord on it. It deffently works better on 240V and I usually run the air at around 40-60 psi. Anyway good luck with yours. And nice video
Nice review and demo Randy, I have a similar but different brand Cut-50. I suspect these all come from the same factory with slightly different exterior trim and paint jobs for the specific vendors. It's the only plasma cutter I've ever used so no idea how it would stack up to a real commercial model. I have been into the guts for a few minor repairs. The electronics actually look pretty good, but not braced well for rough handling. But heck for a home shop and the price factor...not bad and cut rather well on most anything hobbist would deal with. Thanks for sharing !
As you said Randy it works. I would take the case off and install a heavier gauge cable (as you said a bit light). Not sure about the price but I will look. Is it a professional machine, def not but for a small shop/ home gamer just the job. Thanks for sharing. Seasons greetings from Bonnie Scotland. Joe.
My Everlast 256si tig/stick/plasma is rated for 60A and suggests it can cut cleanly, 5/8-3/4" and sever 1". They recommend 70-80 psi though. Never tried it on more than 5/16". I usually find a zip disc in the grinder much faster and handier since setting up the plasma requires changing the hoses over from argon to the air and swapping over the torches. Mine does not have a drag tip though which would make life much easier. The standoff feet don't like tracing curves.
Y ou were really lucky to cut half inch with this cheap machine. Now I wish someone would make a head to head comparison with a brand name machine manufacturer such as Hypertherm...
Honest and good review, company will thank you. I must sew you up a leather hose shield :)> at 22:+ cuttiing the 3/8 plate I was sure the cloth shield was going to send us up smoke signal,,hehe! My Everlast 256 came with cloth shields, and a week later looked like most of my shirts and pants :)> Best to you and yours for the Holidays,,Bear & Sammie.
Nice review Randy. I have been looking at those for a long time and they tend to get mixed reviews but hard to tell what is user error. Never Seize on pipe thread for air? That is new one on me. I have used pipe dope or tape on those for years. I will have to give that a try when I hook my air back up. Best!
The hardness of the substrate metals doesn’t affect the performance of the cutting action. The cutting is basically a chemical reaction between the oxygen in the air and the substrate metal. Rust and paint and other coatings can deflect the airstream and play havoc with the melting process. Once the metal is elated by the heat of the arc, the airstream blows it out onto your boots. Stavros
I guess there wasn't anything on duty cycle? If you mentioned it, I missed it. Anyway, looks like that would last forever for someone that does their own body work. Some of that stuff is so thin these days, you get within 5 feet of it with a lit match, it warps.
Good review Randy. How does it do on aluminum or cast iron? They sure have came down in price. I have a Hypertherm 380 that I paid $1300 for 15 years ago. The cut 50 is super cheap on Ebay. I would be interested in seeing a review on their Plasma-Mig-Tig. I am looking to replace my Snap-On Mig which is a POS.
The U.S. split phase is 180 degrees so 2 different 110 volt circuits can be wired together as long as they are both from the same split, 1 side of the split is 110 volt in the neg while the other side of the split is 110 volt in the pos and they are added together to get 220 volt.. i hope i explained that so it's understandable but it is possible to get 220 fairly easy if needed
Michael, I do not know if it has internal circuit protection, but I have not opened it up to check. But I do assume it does. So that the cord is protected. With that assumption it would be fine to plug into a 50 amp circuit.
@@RRINTHESHOP Thank you! Will it hurt anything if I get a 50amp circuit installed but the machine uses less amperage? I don’t understand what makes a machine cut50 or 40 or 60?
@@ericerf6837 No it will not hurt. Your outlet rating should be the circuit breaker size that is used to supply the power to the outlet. The wire used in the circuit should be rated equal for the breaker. The breaker is there to protect the wire to prevent a fire. The sizing of the various models is the way they rated them. The 40 will cut thru about the the max of 3/8" the 60 will cut thru about 5/8" maybe 3/4". All of them will work on a 50 amp rated circuit.

Check the spark gap. It's inside on the bottom board of my vevor cut50 pilot Arc. Everything would come on lights, fan and air but no Arc would happen. Opened up the gap and works good now!
