    Next episode is on Jamal Adams instead of Daniel Jones.
    Originally I was working on that Jones episode and then I got to the Jets game when Jamal absolutely wrecked them, so I decided to do that topic instead. Danny Dimes will eventually get this tho, just like Jameis and the Panthers D. Trust me on that one.

      Defense looks solid with pass rushing threats. Secondary has to prove they can be a force too. Offense is not a problem outside of overall protection (they did get Wirfs) and consistency with the running game. Which may help if they can reliably do 2TE sets and they can considering they have Gronk who can be more of a receiver for at least a year (if healthy overall) and OJ Howard who has proven he can be both. Then you have Mike Evans whose the tall sideline catching threat and Godwin. Just depends how creative the OC/coach is at drawing schemes with those nice weapons they have which on paper can def put up points.

    I could be wrong here Brett, but I think that's why so far, it seems Jerry has done the right thing. Dak should probably play on the tag to try one more year of determining whether he's elite or just good. I think underpaying isnt the right move, and overpaying isnt either. A tag makes perfect sense here no?

    • @cjartiste
      @cjartiste 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a gamble for Jones. Because they franchised him this year (at about $31mil), unless they work out an extension, Dak would probably have to be tagged next season at about $38mil. So then the $$ floor for negotiations at that point would go up, as far as Dak's agent is concerned. Basically, why would he take less per year than what he'd be making on tags? If Dak stays healthy and is basically the same guy, he could then command minimum $38mil/year instead of the $35mil that was reportedly offered. Jones could let him walk at that point but then he'd be right back in the market for a QB again.

      All of you guys just ignored the video...
      If he isn't special, meaning a truly amazing QB after next season, you let him walk no matter what. He isn't worth that number if he can't justify it. You guys think I'm trying to justify a bad or average QB getting money and I'm not. I'm saying he could under the tag, play at a level that we havent yet seen. And if he does that? Well then you gotta pay him. I doubt he will, but tagging him at $31M isn't a bad move. You get a good QB one more season which gives you time to determine how to go about getting a new one of he isn't special. Like Trevor Lawrence maybe. Just thought this would clear up some of the comments people made without finishing the video it seems.

      Cowboys schedule this year is a lot tougher than last year and Prescott always struggles against good teams. It's quite possible, even likely, that the Cowboys go into the bye with a 4-5 record or worse and their playoff chances on life support. In that case, Prescott will get benched for Dalton to give the team a spark like the Titans did last year benching Mariota for Tannehill. This is a stacked team build to win now and Jerry won't tolerate another year with no playoffs. Prescott will be begging Jerry for 15 million next offseason.

    I'm a Cowboys fan: now my thoughts... I watch every Cowboys game multiple times. Dak is good. Dak is not Elite being honest. He has elite qualities, durability and leadership, but does not consistently do elite football stuff. Doesn't step up in the pocket, not consistently accurate, doesn't make plays with his legs when need be but he does make elite plays at times. I think he can still improve those things and become elite. NOW: EVERYBODY WHO NEEDS TO BE PAID IS ALREADY PAID! Zeke, Cooper, O-Line, D-Law, etc... Already paid.

    In the end Dak has shown moments of brilliance and potential. He has shown that he can be good great or even bad. Im a Cowboys fan and I think its really hard to be Jerry right now. You cant let him walk and you cant pay him big money. So another prove it year for Dak would be best right now. He is also poised to be dominant next season. Easier schedule and stronger WR core.
    This could me he will command an even higher salary next year. With more young QBs signing up big contracts this will also move is pay way up. Its a wager. Let him play on tag he dominates EVEN higher salary hit later on. Risk it and pay him now could be a bad move going forward if he does not take them to a super bowl. Its a lose lose for jerry. Dak plays on tag he dominates get higher salary. Dak plays on tag he doesnt do much teams in this carousel of QB search and lose windows. Dont pay Dak and he walks away to a different team will lose all the investment in his talent from the Cowboys FO side. Dak gets paid now before watson and mahomes he gets a great deal takes them far would be best case scenario.
    I think its good to give Dak money now for a short deal like 3 years maybe 4. If he doesnt pan out its before big hitting contracts from mahomes and watson. If he pans out well you get a great QB from a 4th round pick. This has the lowest risk with the highest reward basing on the room right now.
    Its either that or throw away a season for a potential QB pick on a rookie deal. We know thats not happening. The roster is too stacked to be throwing games and disgruntled players will want trades before the season ends with that kind of losing culture.

    What's most frustrating about this question is that you have no idea the real answer. He can play elite-level the entire game and throw 3 touchdowns against a shootout offense and then just not throw the exact pass he needs to, and then he loses. Or the pass he needs to throw will be just barely behind the receiver it needs to be. Take the seattle game for example. His one early pick was bad, but plenty of time to recover from that, and he did. 3 touchdowns, moved his team 472 yards with his passing, 27 yards with his legs, he was doing great. Miraculously escaped a sack that had him practically on his hands, had room to wait for someone to get open, and then throws too early for a pick at the very last play of the game.

    • @TheRexrapper

Dallas is down 30-22 going into the 4th qt and Dak leads them to a TD drive early in the 4th and then the next possession leads them on a FG drive to give them the lead 31-30 with 4 minutes left in the game.... the defense proceeds to let Wilson march the entire field, including giving up a 4th down conversion along the way and gives up not only a TD but a 2-pt conv as well so now down 38-31 and Dak gets the ball back at the 25 with 1:47 left in the game and since he couldn’t lead them 75 yards to score in under 2 minutes, it’s his fault and he deserves all the blame? I hate the way the media talk about QB contracts. QBs already get way to much blame/credit for how the team does relative to their actual value and getting mad at them for not taking “team friendly deals” is just a way to blame them for things totally out of their control.
    In Daks case there is no such thing as a team friendly deal bc the cowboys won nothing when they were paying him almost nothing. Every cent over 2 mil he makes is makes their team worse than it was last year. The path to improvement for them is in good depth moves, coaching, and culture not squeezing 6 extra mil of cap space from Dak so they can turn around and give it to some other underperforming player.

    Idk if the question is "How much money is Dak Prescott actually worth?", but "How willing is Dak Prescott to build a great surrounding cast?".
    Let's say Dak knows he's a monster on the field, average, great, elite, whatever he is. No matter what, he'd benefit from a contract that would allow his team to build around him.
    Unfortunately, as it's the Cowboys, they SUCK at signing deals for who they should, and are awesome at signing deals for who they shouldn't.
    They signed Michael Bennett, and he had 4 sacks in 9 games, 27 tackles, and 11 hits. He then got traded away in week 10.
    They gave $90M to DeMarcus Lawrence, and in the two years following he has a grand total of 8 sacks.
    They gave Jaylon Smith a $68M contract, and since then he has his lowest Passes Deflected since his rookie season, 0 forced fumbles, and 1/2 of a sack.
    Then they had Robert Quinn, who was amazing on defense and ended 2019 with 2 forced fumbles, 3 passes deflected, 22 QB hits, 11.5 sacks, 34 CMB tackles. His best season since 2013, when he made first-team all-pro and the pro bowl. What did the Cowboys do? Not sign him, and traded him to the Bears.
    They signed Jeff Heath as their starting Strong Safety for 7 years, and with all of those years combined he had a total of 8 interceptions and 260 combined tackles. He gave up 62%+ of targets.
    They had Cole Beasley and hardly targeted him as much as he could have been, and now he's in Buffalo where he's gotten more than 1/3 of the stats in the 7-year span he had at the Cowboys in under 1/3 of the time.
    Etc, you get my point. Dude's probably going to lose no matter what. As the cowboys do, they'll probably end up paying Dak not that much, and then get a 6th round defensive back and put him in the starting lineup and sign another wide receiver in the 1st round.

    I don’t think Dak Prescott is worth anything over 30 million dollars per year. I don’t think he is elite by any stretch. I’d say he is one of the 13 to 10 best QBs in football. I also think he needs a good o line & a great running game to win. Don’t see him making up for bad WRs, o lines, defenses & running games. So I think Dallas would be foolish to sign him to a long term deal worth more than 30 million per year. The reason is because that will handicap their ability to continue to resign players & bring in talent for Dak. & Dak absolutely needs a well above average roster to even make the playoffs. Dak should have taken the money & there are no excuses for him this year now that he has Ceedee Lamb (& his WRs were already great) & a super bowl winning coach in Mike McCarthy

    • @agustincortes1377
      @agustincortes1377 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That basically applies to 99% of NFL QB's only Russel Wilson and Aaron Rodgers have proven they can carry an offense by themselves. The handicap argument is a myth, Both Jimmy G and Kirk Cousins were paid at market value and both teams manage to build a super bowl roster and playoff roster around them

    You said it yourself near the end, Prescott is so much better than he was just 2 years ago and has shown steady improvement every year. He was a 4th rd draft pick that was thrown to the wolves in a Jason Garrett-coached team with conservative, out-of-touch Scott Linehan being his playcaller for his first 3 years. I think he'll put it all together this year (given enough time to train; no given considering covid) especially with a fresh coaching staff.

    Dak is one of those QBs who's good but not great, and if you give him great money it's gonna bite you in the ass. Look at what happened with Jared Goff, he had a few very good seasons and got paid, and now that he's taking up so much of the cap on the team they can't give him as much help so his play has started to decline
    Edit: I commented this before I watched the video and didn't realize that I literally would just echo the exact same sentiment Brett made lmao

      6-17 with a 1:1 ratio against winning teams says everything you need to know. Losing teams do not make the playoffs often, and that means he will lose 3 games for every 1 he wins in the playoffs.

      I'm a Cowboys fan too, if my name didn't already show that. Zeke had 1300 yards and was averaging 4.5 ypc. If you just watch a lot of first down runs from the Cowboys, Zeke made a lot of 2nd downs easier. And Zeke's contract won't be anywhere near Dak's in terms of guaranteed money.

    Made comment before finishing video. Does anyone else think that we might be moving towards a future where teams kinda intentionally reboot the QB position every 3-4 years to avoid paying these roster crippling contracts? If you're a team that runs an offense that uses a "system QB" and functions around accuracy and timing as oppose to elite talent (you wouldn't do what I'm proposing with a Patrick Mahomes), why not trade a young QB who's contract is due, sign a vet and draft another QB prospect that can play you're system instead of break the bank and thus your team? The 9ers did this at a different position when they traded Buckner to the Colts and just drafted his replacement to avoid the contract.
