Familial update: Fascinating story and I am so impressed with Mark’s sincerity and gentle nature with them. As an amateur genealogist I was intrigued about their lineage, so I dove in. For anyone else also curious, it seems that the parents of this clan were indeed first cousins, but to complicate it further, and something I have yet to run across elsewhere in 25 years of research, they were first cousins born to IDENTICAL TWINS. Twin boys, one had a girl and one had a boy and those kiddos made this family. The parents were father John E Whittaker born to one twin brother and Gracie I Whittaker born to the other twin brother. Originating in Virginia, they moved a short distance over some years to reach nearby Odd, WVA. I pray they continue to thrive with the assistance of caring folk. And before you say “thrive?” …it’s all relative. Clearly.
Genetically that would make them more like half siblings than cousins. But even so, there would have to be flaws in the genetic code to begin with, for the cousin-parents to produce so many children with serious issues. I wonder if all of the other siblings are similar to the ones we've seen.
I was looking for a comment about this because it is literally the first thing I thought after I saw a comment about someone living in this same town and the family was once bigger. Also, given the clear genetic issues they seem to have…this is really interesting.
Wow. Thank you for your research. Very interesting
thank you. That is pretty wild! It does make more sense to why they would have more health issues and mental and physical disabilities with them being so closely related. now do my family! :), jk, kind of....Is there a way to get my lineage without using the ever invasive dna tests?
Thanks for the ancestry on them..I live in WV not too far from them. I have never met any of them but years ago people harassed them..which is totally wrong to do.
When he asked Kenneth “what’s your favorite memory as a kid?” And Kenneth said, “Ray” without a second of hesitation. That warmed my whole heart.
Same here. So wholesome and sweet
It was sooo sweet
Great catch. That was a cool moment.

You are so beautiful, Jane.
Ikr, made me smile when he showed his bed and did a snoring sound ☺
Ray is good with the ladies!
He knows more than people think he always observing and listening and using a few sounds and actions to express him self.
Ray is so full of gratitude. He doesn't miss anything. Pointing to all the renovations and improvements, the full fridge, the bed and boxspring, the T.V., the heater in the bathroom, the shed of wood, the improvement in his legs, the scratch on the car. What a character. Inspiring.
He certainly is. He loves being a tour guide! 💕
It seemed like in one moment he was motioning for Mark to sit like "sit, sit" I was like "aww!" It's so sweet!
He appreciates everything
Ray is full of joy. We can all learn from him
I love Ray. 💚
You could tell Ray not only remembers you but is thankful for what he was given seeing as he wanted to show you everything. Please protect this family at all costs.

The other people that Mark gives money to, like that girl with a tattoo on her face, squandered it. The Whittakers are the only one ones I've seen actually spend the money on necessities. Mark's taken them to Walmart where he told them they could buy ANYTHING they wanted. They chose food, dog food, clothes, and a microwave. Mark gave them money and they fixed their home up. New roof which I'm sure was desperately needed, new siding on the house, new flooring, new stove, a new mattress and box spring for Ray, a chair, a heater in the living room and one in the bathroom, a fridge full of food, a truck, and other home improvements. They only take what they need, never spending money on frivolous things. I think that's why us subscribers enjoy these videos so much. They have very little material things, but instead of feeling sorry for themselves, they are genuinely happy. They are pure of heart.
Gosh this made me teary eyed, it really puts things in perspective, this family deserves help the most and this is probably the only time they have gotten some help from anybody, they didn't buy anything flashy they got what they needed!! It warms my heart!!!
I’ve watched off and on for a couple years when I first started watching I really wondered if he was genuine with his actions towards this family and not just trying to make a dollar I now see he’s really kind I’m really proud someone has the heart to do this

Where are these beds and sofas? You can tell the woman who speaks is very caring of the rest of her crew. Has no one explained to the people like her, their family tree? Our 24 yo son has Down Syndrome and autism. He and many of his friends are very limited with their speech abilities. Thank you for helping these “kids” since their parents have died. We live in fear of what will happen to our kids when we die. It’s nice to know good people are out there.
Father of two autistic children - and it's something my wife and I talk about all the time. Something neuro-typical parents don't really have to worry as much about. As messed up as it sounds, were the only parents on earth that would rather outlive their children in a very small way. Then we'd know they'd be safe, and nobody could hurt them. It sounds morbid; you want your kids to have the longest and best life possible, of course. But the thought that some day there might not be anyone left who truly cares for them is a thought that keeps me up at night. They have hard enough lives as it is. Anyways - seriously thank you for your comment. It feels good knowing we're not the only ones to think about what happens later.

Heck, all of them. Us modern people are unhappier and more stressed than ever. I bet these people are closer, more worry free and happy than most people that make 6-7 figures. The things we think make us happy often dont, and the things we try to escape (like family, nature, being detached from the iphone) are what is good for us.
There is a reason the Amish registered as the happiest people in the US, despite rejecting modernity.
@S D They said the Amish rejected the modern lifestyle... And no one is romanticizing anything, they are pointing out that they likely lead much happier lives than most.. this is likely accurate. They just live life and have very little stresses.
@S D u are assuming that. It's possible, they were more just comparing the fact they live happier lives thanks to strong family n more simple lifestyle. And there is proven correlation between a strong family, and less materialistic lifestyle and overall happiness. Whether the Whittakers attained this thru birth defects or disability is irrelevant to the overall point.
@S D the whittakers are highly disabled. They have less stress for multiple reasons. 1. They have no financial worries or bills. Their home is paid for, their Healthcare is paid for, they all get a ton of government assistance in foodstamps and cash assistance. So coming together as a family and helping each other has allowed them to survive and get by each day. It's quite amazing such a disabled family is able to survive together n largely had no help until rumored recently in their history. It's quite amazing.
@S D U really reachin... Nobody said they livin the dream bud.. U love to manipulate things people say dont u.. U either delusional, or just super manipulative.
is anyone going to mention that even with this condition, these people can take good care of the dogs...love that !

@@gmhins011 Well, I do agree without more context all we see is that they're seemingly healthy & loved. All I wonder about is if, especially when older, they have vet care. Older doggies tend to have issues pop up. Do they leave them or do they get care for them? Is there dog carcasses in the area? I would love to know. As for now and what we see I would say they seem to be loved. I guess they are exercised by just running about the yard. I can't see any of them walking the dogs but I could be wrong. These doggies look to be quite young or approaching middle age so likely very little issue health wise. When they're older and get sick is what I worry about. For now, because i don't know, It is good they are loved and fed. We really know nothing about how they're cared for besides that. So we leave it at that.

But instead they bought food, fixed the roof, fixed the siding, new cabinets, built a secondary unit which they then sold, got a used vehicle (albeit that needs fixed) and a used quad - which is just as useful as a car that far out in appalachia.
Simply because theyre werent born with the affliction of craving popularity and attention, they've become absolutely dependent and completely fulfilled by only their need for family, love, and the support within that group.
Absolutely! I think it speaks so much to the quality of these people 🙏🏻
Virtually everyone on disability does that. Seriously, unnecessary spending is an affliction of the privileged.
Ray is my favorite. If he was higher on the spectrum and verbal he'd be the friendliest and have the most to say.
I don't think he was asking for money, I think he was explaining why it wasn't finished. He made it clear that he hadn't used any of the gifted money to pay for it, he paid for it himself through working.
He's proud of his clean home and although he's close enough to help he has his own space. Good for him
Yea, he bought everything w his own money. He works and is pretty stable.
Rays reaction when you asked if he was happy just melted my heart. He’s obviously a lot smarter than he’s given credit for and understands quite a bit.
...and then he barked 37 times and shit his pants while drooling.
I didn't realize how emotionally invested I am in this story of the Whittaker family until just now when I got legit excited to see a new post about them.

I just heard about this family today. I immediately became interested in them. May God continue to bless them and Mark too for being so kind and generous to them. I love Ray such a sweet man.
Mark caught some grief for doing this series, but the end results speak volumes. Well done.
Do these people sleep with family members? Thats what I heard
WOOOORD!!!
Exactly!
The end result, Mark’s bank account got a whole bigger.
@@thary2me this series has been mutually beneficial for both parties. in the first five minutes he talks about helping them fix their truck. all of the new things Ray showed off were because of the donations that poured in after this documentary became popular and donations from Mark himself.
To Mark and everybody who donated to these folks, bless your hearts. The world needs more people like y'all.
Right
Actually the world needs less people like these weirdos

I think the Whittaker’s have adopted Mark and made him family. It’s so cool to see them happy and healthy ❤️❤️
I think your right lol. He gained their trust
It's shocking how many people can't see how irritated they are round him. In the south we tend to hate stupid questions, obvious observations, and bullshit small talk. If this dude came around and wasn't giving them money, they wouldn't have a thing to do with him.
Vice versa too
@@Coltonmoore79 He wasnt giving them money in the very beginning, He just shared a pizza with them at first. They have grown a friendship with him and vice versa. You come across as an angry person.
NO. They see him as the man with the money.
The way trust has been built here is so beautiful. They went from being reserved in the beginning, not answering questions, to being so open and inviting seem to trust Mark completely now 😊
I love the growth so much!!
Yes. Big, real big change in communications and trust. He could move in the way they let him have a cook's tour now.
This is jaw-dropping amazing!!
I'd be open and inviting if someone gave me $30,000 as well!

wonderful
The fact they use the money for food and improving rheir life and not gambling, drinking or drugs is terrific and I hope people continue to support them. It's not their fault their parents had this mentality.
Typical white family minus the meth
You seriously believe they're not on drugs?
Take a look
😂😂
Jeremiah, I think it's entirely possible that they've never been exposed to any form of gambling, drinking or drugs.
And I don't mean this as an insult.
If anything it's one of the few positives these people have been given in this life.
Again, I don't intend this as an insult.
I would also guess that the nearby neighbor who watches after the family probably helped watch their spending.
I hope this doesn't come off
@@nigle1813 you do realize they look and sound like that because of serious genetic disorders from incest and not because of drugs right ? what a dumb ignorant comment lmao

I have so much respect for their sister. She decided to dedicate the rest of her life to looking after her siblings. She knew her siblings were not self-sufficient enough to be on their own so she decided to stick around. I'm also so happy for the disabled siblings because they don't allow their challenges to keep them from living their best lives.
@Jotunn I think you could have chosen a better word than "odd", though.
I only recently discovered soft white underbelly and have been slowly working my way through the content. I am amazed at the difference between the first video from the wittakers and this video in regards to how forthcoming and welcoming they are. I know you have the go fund me which is fantastic, but the change it has made for this family is incredible. You are a good man Mark

@@bryanbradley6871 Oh fuck off with that
I'm confused by all this. Why do ppl have a soft emotional spot for ppl like this? A family of incest who has done nothing for anybody. They rely on others for survival. Why empathy? I don't see the love. I see ppl shunned by society. Seeing and looking at Ray hurts a lil tbh. All these lives ruined! So is a good thing none of them had children? Or is it still their right to have children? I wonder why Ray yacks like that. He can hear fine but can't talk.
Ray seems like such a nice guy. What he lacks in speaking ability he makes up for with his friendliness and enthusiasm. And i can tell he understands everything that is being said to him.
I don't think he does but that's optimistic of you.
He said, chicken! 🐓 when they opened the freezer 👍🏻 12:31
I noticed that too, he does as asked which implies he understands. I wonder what the issue is, I know some babies/toddlers have a speech issue where they babble rather than forming words and they point. Come make love to me
You can tell he is learning, so maybe one day he will have a greater vocabulary
He is able to talk but instead of listening, we have to look. His gestures are his way of talking
@@roosterdoodster9220 Unfortunately, he will never have an actual vocabulary. He’s too old and unable to comprehend speech. Linguistic development begins as a baby. There have been several cases of feral children relearning a language, but that is with a specialist who chooses to use the children for research and is with them everyday. There is more to speaking than just saying words, it’s speaking with proper grammar in full sentences. Ray might be able to utter a word here and there but sadly that’s it.
Give him a firearm and see how he reacts.
You can hear in Mark’s voice how happy he is to be with the Whittaker’s - he is so pleased with the result of the money - spent well, roof, car, chair, roof and siding - awesome use of the money.
My husband grew up in Odd his whole life. He lived 10 minutes down the road from the Whittaker family. We went to school with a few of their relatives. They are such good people. People have ridiculed them for years. I’m so glad someone is doing some good for them. 💜

The Appalachian people like most of us I'd assume, have strong family loyalty and many make personal sacrifices to help support the family. It's sweet, but, also still hurts my heart a little. I respect it though.
