Merle didn't "give" Bonnie half of "I Started Loving You Again" (Original title on the 45) Bonnie deserved half for the song Idea. That's the way it works. I got a kiss from Bonnie back in 79, Nashville Hall of Fame Hotel ; my band was booked in the lounge, and Bonnie with the Strangers came in often for the week they were in town. Merle stayed in his room... One night, Bonnie, Biff, and Roy sat in with us, and I sang every Haggard song I knew (All of them) with Bonnie doing the Harmony. What an amazing experience. Lots of shoulda couldas to recall. Like I shoulda told Bonnie how much I loved her and appreciated her talent. Too overwhelmed to realize it was fleeting.

I've met Merle's band members never him, saw Merle with Alan Jackson in concert in New Jersey, Merle opened for Alan. Which is what he did for artists. incredible man and his music R.I.P. Merle
When we were kids which was in the 60s and 70s momma cleaned house to Loretta Lynn. Daddy played Merle Haggard if he was listening to music. Im glad i grew up when I did because we had the best of country music back then.
In 1963 disc jockey Tommy McDonald wrote and recorded a song called "Missing On A Mountain" about the plane crash that killed Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas. McDonald narrated the song and Bonnie Owens sang the chorus. "Missing on a mountain. Coming home from a show". 3 of our greatest singers, gosh we'll miss them so "
Saw merle live on his “If I could only fly” tour and Bonnie was there. Took my boys and their mother. I’m divorced from her now and I’m still learning how to live without her almost twenty years later. I know how Merle felt.
You can't be married to someone from 1965 til 1978 (as they were) and not be in love. Read his books "Sing me back home" & my house of memories, some very revealing things they both said about each other. He married Leona Williams in 1978 that's when all hell broke loose, she was jealous of Bonnie, even tho she was Brides Maid at their wedding,(which i just don't get it would be a cold day in hell when I would ever do that) This shows what a big hearted person Bonnie was. Merle ask her to be in the wedding. Leona moved in with her two kids, Merle had his 4 kids they just didn't get along. After Leona left that's when she wrote the song "You Take Me Forgranted", He wrote the song "A place to fall apart". Merle had a problem deciding who he wanted to be with.
Leona, I worked for a gay couple and the husband stood up as best man for his ex-wife. He must have loved her enough to let her go to another woman because they have 3 kids together. They are all very close as a family and always spend holidays together. He is in a relationship now and their kids are all grown up and on their own. Love works in mysterious ways sometimes.
They should have never been divorced. They were great together as singers and Bonnie was a great lady for Merle. I would like to know the picture that was on the wall.
My guess it was Merle but Bonnie didn't recognize him. She took him by the arm and showed him the picture and I think that it was Merle's picture that is why he was so close to tears.
Alzheimer's and dementia is such a cruel disease!!!!! So many suffer with it, not only the ones who are stricken with it ,but the family and friends......

My mother fell victim to this cruel and dreadful disease....luckily, she never forgot who I was, but my brother and some dear close friends she did not remember....I was blessed that she did recognize me up until the very end,,,,I sat with her during breakfast the day she passed and she was calling me by my name and telling those around her, "this is my daughter" I was blessed. Yes, I believe Merle always loved Bonnie and it had to have been difficult for him that she did not know who he was! RIP Merle and Bonnie
Merle Haggard - all-time greatest
She was his heart and inspiration
Bonnie was a great hearted woman. She was married to Buck Owen's first.
I think she and Merle were best friends first and foremost. XoXo..
Helle!!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day… Stay Safe!!
What a beautiful story, they were both very humble, imagine marrying the same person twice, I know it happens, I find it interesting.

It's amazing what kind of music you can turn out when you're just a genuine man and not some freak-show celebrity. Merle was just Merle.
I've met Merle's band members never him, saw Merle with Alan Jackson in concert in New Jersey, Merle opened for Alan. Which is what he did for artists. incredible man and his music R.I.P. Merle
Listen to song Merle wrote called Apart for Awhile to see the love or adoration he had for Bonnie. Miss both of them. RIP Merle and Bonnie
Nice interview
Merle Haggard- The Legend. Need i say more.
When we were kids which was in the 60s and 70s momma cleaned house to Loretta Lynn. Daddy played Merle Haggard if he was listening to music. Im glad i grew up when I did because we had the best of country music back then.
You're absolutely right. How lucky we were.
3 of our greatest singers, gosh we'll miss them so "
My goodness did that ending have me teared up.
Love this
What a man

Big. City. By. Merle. Awesome thanks. Merle. R. I. P. Robert V. Evans

Going to cry now.X
I can’t wait
Saw merle live on his “If I could only fly” tour and Bonnie was there. Took my boys and their mother. I’m divorced from her now and I’m still learning how to live without her almost twenty years later. I know how Merle felt.
Hope you will be happy again 👍🇨🇮
Bonnie ended up taking care of the kids with Merles mother.

I miss that sweet and tender voice .Didn't like his politics but loved him to bits.
@@margaretwhelan7727 WHAT POLITICS??
Bonnie was Merle were supposed to be together,I love their duets , some were wrote by the great Liz Anderson
Alma Belhumeur yes he said it was a picture of him and her but she didn’t recognize Merle was the one she was talking to
Such a shame and heartbreaking. He had a hard time not crying.
