The Town is a favorite of mine from him production-wise on this album. The piano breakdown is the first of Many aspects of horror vibes on this album. Hes a big fan of horror movies and he wanted this album to reflect it. Trilogy was a big success, and he took a lot of inspiration from Tokyo in this album. Most of the artwork you'll see for this album is written in Japanese. This is also the album we were introduced to Oxy, a cute little lime green, kinda anime inspired version of a red panda, which because sort of a mascot for this album. So this is like a Trilogy mixtape on a larger scale with a bigger budget... like a movie. Trilogy was very claustrophobic. Like his dark, sensual, sinister presence was more so close up on you, whereas KissLand is more like his aura has taken over a large city and you can't really escape it. I think this is why it's more of a favorite amongst us OG XO fans than other albums.

This album was supposed to capture his experience leaving Toronto, because he’d never left town before. Kiss Land is about his experience in Japan, about the fear in the world he sees. He was very inspired by John Carpenter, a horror film director, which is why the songs can get very tense or scary in the case of the screams in Kiss Land. At least from what I can remember from the interviews. Also the music videos really help to see the full picture for pretty, he also has a bunch of small teaser videos leading up to Kiss Land like John Carpenter, The Airport, The Restaurant, The Flower shop.

Ayeee it's the Kiss Land reaction. This is my 2nd favourite Weeknd project after Trilogy (if we combine all three). It's beautiful. Can't wait to live through another first reaction. Will probably comment again.
So, Professional is my second favorite opener of an album second only to Alone Again. Your vibe matched mine, every time I hear it. I found major weight behind the line "Everything you've been thru made you stronger, and every day you learn about yourself, and nothing's really played out how it's supposed to, depending on somebody else's worth, and now you know the value of a dollar" apart from the actual dollar being an actual amount or currency, that line is just so powerful to me. It's always resonated with me. I may get it tattooed. It'd be my first one.
The weird beat in the middle of The Town honestly grew on me, to the point it's my favorite song on the project. Very effective use of to jar the listener before he pulls them back in with soft lyrics. Also like the microphone setup you have a lot of reviews don't use. It does well to call attention to you when you're about to speak.

Tears In The Rain was the sleeper for me on this album. Many people I talked to online growing up with this album was trashing me because this had to grow on me. It's come to be the saddest song on the album. When the one you love dispises you and you have no choice to take all that fault, guilt and self loathing and learn to live with it... Adaptation. So fucking happy to share this experience with you. I can't pick one or the other between this and Echoes. Whichever I listen to at the time is my favorite lol. Like I said, this is a bigger, larger version of Trilogy. Easily a continuation of his previous story. He's very much himself but outside of those four walls of 65 Spencer ( the address of what we know as The House Of Balloons, where he lived and created the Trilogy in the 6, Toronto). Love the videos! As someone who enjoys Abel’s catalog a lot, it’s great to watch someone hear it for the first time. I think where Kissland differs from trilogy, is the emotional content of it. Songs like “tears in the rain” and “adaption” have themes of remorse and taking ownership. He seems to have left someone behind on this journey and those songs seem like a reference to a specific person or situation-ship. Can’t wait for you to get to BBTM!

KissLand. So, about that horror aspect... Lol ikr. I paused when your eyes lit up. This is my favorite song on the album. Production is PERFECT for this album. Sums up the entire vibe for me tbh. This is actually the debut single of the album, I believe, or at least one of the first songs he released from it. When I first heard the first 20 seconds, I knew then I'd love this album. Didn't disappoint me either. Also, the second half of the song, he released as the teaser for the album. It was a distorted video clip of him on the studio swaying from side to side just vibing to the instrumental. He called it "John Carpenter" who we know is the father of horror as we know it and the man who directed Halloween and also did the infamous piano theme for Michael Myers. The breakdown in The Town is an homage to horror. Sidenote: lyrics lol. "When I got on stage she swore I was six feet tall, but when she put it in her mouth she can't seem to reach my..." Then the next thing he says is a play on the word ball (s) (ing). Slick. It's not something to relate to... Even if you try. I took it as a warning as well. This isn't the life you want to live. Also, his songs get better over time since it's such a different sound than you expect. His videos help the story.
