Overall, I think that 95% of the fan base felt weird with this album, but is just because it's so ahead at his time. Now in 2024 I gotta say is his best album, my favorite from him too and really grew on my the last years, that kinda effect it's crazy if you think about it. Nice reaction and thank you for keeping it real, keep XOTWOD.
The Weeknd created Kiss Land with the intention of giving it a dark and “creepy” tone, reflecting the stage of his life at that time: his rapid rise to fame and the feelings of alienation and loneliness that came with it. He wanted to explore a darker, more experimental side of his sound while maintaining the melancholic atmosphere that characterized his earlier music. In interviews, The Weeknd has explained that Kiss Land is a conceptual experience about the fear and anxiety he felt when stepping out of his comfort zone, especially when transitioning from his hometown, Toronto, to touring the world for the first time. This brought a sense of isolation and fear of the unknown, which influenced the album’s narrative. He has mentioned that Japanese horror films were an inspiration for the album’s atmosphere, as he wanted to capture the tension and mystery of those stories.
Great reaction man kissland is a huge grower it'll get better when you relisten and get sucked into more I got addicted to it after like 7 listens and didn't stop listening to it since then😊
kiss land is comfortably sitting at my top spot in the weeknd's discography from a production, atmosphere, conceptual, lyrical, and even vocal standpoint. i love how cinematic it is. it kind of carries on the darkness from trilogy and synthwork from after hours so it's a cool mix of both. this is definitely an album you have to relisten to to fully understand it
i know it's just first listen, but i find it very interesting how you were completely sold out the gate with Live For, which is considered among the majority of the weeknd fans as the weakest of the tracklist, but was on the fence about Wanderlust and Tears in the Rain which are considered fan favorites.
Right lmao, I’m weird though! Live For is actually still up there for me right now, I find it to be very catchy 😂😂 Thanks for the thorough response!! And thank you for watching!! 💯💯
ngl this album took me a while to like it and now it is prolly my top 2 ever, and certainly his best. adaptation, professional and wanderlust hit CRAZY for me after every listen. dope reaction tho i acc stuck through it
Been lovin your reactions to Abel! He is by far my favorite artist of the 2010s+ decade. He truly has created a story for himself as The Weeknd from his tough beginnings, dark start, played into fame, the feelings he has had after the his rise and the death of himself into the afterlife. All with videos and songs that can trace back even to his early mixtapes. Just such an incredible discography, voice and artist 🙌 keep up the great reactions!
Yeah, some of the lyrics on Pretty may not be correctly translated, and this is why the video provides a little more context, some of the lines (i think a lot, i'm guilty) are actually in japanese, the girl is saying 'Kimochi' which depending on the context can be translated to something close to 'it feels good'.
Glad you enjoyed Kisslan man, especially between songs 3 - 5, I remember in a previous video mentioning you would love these transitions! They are perfection 🔥 keep up the great work!
Thanks for sticking around!! I love transitions, they get me every time lmao I’m glad I liked it out the gates too, and it definitely gets better as you dive in!! It’s crazy 💯💯
I love how everyone picks up on how haunting and abrasive this album sounds. W reaction once again, the “brother” every time he says something out-of-pocket 😂
This has an industrial, haunting sound. He recorded this album in Japan and you can definitely hear that japanesque sound. He meant it to sound "scary" because it was how he was feeling, being the first time he left the only "world" he ever knew. And the vulnerability and the regret that shines through the chinks in the armor. The thing about Abel is he will always reveal a part of himself throughout his discography. When he closes out the final record of the trilogy it will stand as a memoir of The Weeknd. I don't see him being cocky in Kiss Land, he's just telling us how his life is with the fame and how it's so crazy hence this ain't nothing to relate to. It's so outlandish he can hardly believe it himself. Also Tears In the Rain is probably one of his most honest vulnerable songs. He regrets giving up the girl cause he knows she loved him for who he was before the fame. Now he'll never know if he'll find true love again cause now he's famous. His vocals/ad-libbing is so full of emotional and pain it literally makes my heart ache 😢💔 It's definitely way more experimental than Trilogy but I can see the influence in his later work it's just that he has mastered his sound now. Anyways, I hope with more listens and a different setting (not reacting) it'll soak in and you'll come to appreciate the experience that is Kiss Land. XO
Kiss Land is a grower and it’s my favourite project of his. With each listen, you pick up a new melody or new instrument, layer, whatever you discover and it’s incredible.
Now that you listened to it with the lyrics. The next time you hear it, it'll be like your submerged. For me, anyway, I just relate to the relationship aspect of a lot of Abels' work so everything hits 😅 also the video for pretty is a movie!
I’ve been a The Weeknd fan since about 2018, and I’m still trying to find the love for this album, I love around 5 songs from the album, but 2 years ago I didn’t like ANY songs on the album. It’s very much a grower, like it gets better and better for each listen.
To be honest I disliked that album on first listen, but it now is in my top 3 probably I love it so much and a few songs take a few listen to get accustomed to it ! I loveee tears in the rain so much so when I heard it live (I didn’t get spoiled over it) I felt like I was dying lmaooo Keep it up ! 🔥
Dammit man, I’m tryna go to sleep. Guess I’m staying up another hour with headphone on! Another level just past Trilogy but not as pop-y as anything else afterwards. I found The Weeknd just as Echoes dropped so I got to binge like crazy and this was the next step. The albums after weren’t the same Weeknd I loved, although amazing in their own right. This is like the last peek before he went more mainstream
For Love in the Sky, he references drugs and for me it makes me think of Edgar Allen Poe’s quote “All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream”
Please do King of the fall before beauty behind the madness. I didn’t like kissland at first took me like 5 listens now I know it top to bottom and it’s in my top 3 weeknd projects. If you like that wanderlust sound you will definitely enjoy starboy.
Kiss Land is DEFINITELY a grower. Like someone else mentioned... your next listen don't have lyrics open. Just headphones and get lost in the dark cinematic melodic vibe. 😙🤌 It took several listens before it ended up on my top 2 out of all his work. If you felt underwhelmed by Pretty you should watch the music video for the cinematic effect.
Definitely going to check out the music videos! And yes taking it in like that is the best, nothing beats driving in the car and spinning an album 💯🔥🔥 Thank you!!! 😁😁
This dropped on my birthday 🎉 brother 💙this album is so damn good especially those first 3 songs and Wanderlust and You Belong To The World are my TOP faves💯👍👍
The album did?? Or my video?? Lmao, brother 😂😂 It was definitely good, and I agree with most everyone it gets better as you become more and more familiar with it lol Thanks for watching!!
@YourLocalMelomaniac I meant your reaction dropped on my bday 7/25. That's right, brother 😆 it gets better with every listen. Beauty Behind the Madness is also my fave💯 Would be interesting to see what you think of it.
@YourLocalMelomaniac Thank you! Your channel is growing so fast too. Maybe a Q &A one day? 😄 your dedication to Abel's music /reactions is awesome to see. YOU SO XO NOW!!!
Notifications failed me and I didn’t see your reply! Thank you for recognizing my dedication, I have definitely enjoyed his music otherwise I may have not been as thorough lmao, he’s top 5 most listened to artist for me so far this year lmao And yes I’m very happy with how far I’ve come with my channel, I have so much more I want to do! One day it’ll be easier and more consistent as I won’t be working a full time job at the same time… hopefully lmfao 🤣🤣🤣
I hope you'll react to the new animated video that Abel released on The Weeknd TH-cam channel called: The abyss gazes also into you... It's really good and shows some very cool visuals and a new song snippet 🔥✨️
I was also wondering kinda randomly if you were any familiar to Billie eilish music ? Bc you clearly love seemless transitions and she has some that are sooooo good And overall production on her projects is amazing and fresh
All of Trilogy IS on the Channel! Thanks for watching guys!!
Overall, I think that 95% of the fan base felt weird with this album, but is just because it's so ahead at his time. Now in 2024 I gotta say is his best album, my favorite from him too and really grew on my the last years, that kinda effect it's crazy if you think about it.

Thank you!! 🙏🏼
This album gets better with every listen
I could definitely see that, most everyone seems to agree it’s a grower lol
Kissland just has too many layers once you re-listen and discover those there's no going back.
I feel that for sure, one listen is NOT enough at all!! Thanks for watching!! 💯💯
Keep reacting to The Weeknd and you’ll be flooded by XO fans like myself lmao
I appreciate it!! I currently have like 33 video related to The Weeknd 😁😁

I definitely see that for sure!! It’s really unique in its own right, very unpredictable at times 💯💯
Thanks for watching!! I appreciate you! 🔥🔥
I loved it on first listen. I knew it was special when I first heard it.
The “Pretty” music video makes the lyrics mean something completely different
Interesting, definitely gonna have to check that out!!

One of the most cinematic albums you’ll ever listen too. Easily his most mature and creative work imo.
💯💯
Gotta do the videos! The Pretty video is what made me become obsessed with his music!
The Pretty video is so fkng awesome! In my top 3 faves of his! 🔥🔥🔥
