- Your activity on TH-cam and other Google products may influence your TH-cam search results, recommendations on the Home page, notifications, and suggested videos among other places. There are several ways to fine tune these recommendations and search results:
1. You can edit and pause your watch and search histories
2. Explore topics and related videos on your Homepage and in Up Next videos
3. Remove suggestions from channels and videos you don’t want to watch

Dear TH-cam,
I don’t wanna watch the same videos over and over. I seriously have spent hours just telling TH-cam that I’m not interested in the video because I’ve already watched it and I’ve seen the same videos pop up over and over. Sad thing is is it’s a common issue and TH-cam doesn’t even respond to the feedback on their dedicated feedback site. This tells me that they know that the problem is there but they don’t care and/or it is too profitable to change it for some reason. Really aggravating because I used to love watching the recommendations I get from a certain video until I would start getting recommendations for a totally different subject or just the “weird” side of TH-cam.
Now I just get the same damn crap all the time even if I clear my search history and watch history or try to tell youtube what I don’t like. Honestly I don’t think telling them that I’m not interested in a channel or a video does a damn thing anymore…
They decided to optimise their algorithm for "Quantity of user views", not for "Quality of user experience".
The push and drive for the new "TH-cam shorts" Beta just shows how grubby they are to cash in on the "more addictive than cocaine" phenomenon that is TikTok.
Eventually they will transform us all into the mindless content and merchandise consuming livestock that they can so easily milk dry and force through the meat grinder.

@@kemaleren1485 same here, man. It seems to get better and worse in cycles that correlate with when major updates to the site are taking place. Probably them tinkering with the algorithm in one way or another. Very annoying, though. I liked TH-cam's OG recommendation system WAY better. It might not have been very relevant sometimes but I'd at least find new content and creators WAY more often.
Corporatization of TH-cam has crushed the chances of the little guy getting any sort of a viewcount that would make it possible to make a living off of the site. Meanwhile, big media is getting pushed HARD. It's just cable 2.0 now.

I often feel like the recommendations get narrower and narrower, suggesting only videos that are related to videos I've watched. I like minecraft videos, but I sometimes want to experience something new and TH-cam only suggests minecraft videos, because I've binged those lately. I've binged what has been suggested to me, and I can't think of what to search for to see something different.
I don't want a clean slate like deleting my watch history. My preferences hasn't changed, but I NEED some new input and TH-cam isn't giving me that anymore.
Also, "tell us why" should have the option "Because it's been suggested to me too many times"
I get the same videos day after day... also videos I didn't finish to watch the last 30 seconds... TH-cam algorithm sucks.
Also getting recommended videos you've already fully watched with no red line underneath so so annoying
Give us a block feature, not a "do not recommend this channel and then pretend I didn't see you say that 2 weeks later", a straight up block feature. I want to be able to block users or channels such that I will never see them or their content. Literally any other platform has this feature. Implement it.
yea, but also beside from that, its also didn't, or rarely promote new youtubers (except spammers) which making it harder, like me, to get views and so on...

Turning on/off or clearing Watch/Search history does not do anything to change the fact that the recommendations contain literally the same 12 videos EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. For weeks at a time. Nothing new. The only difference is if you clear/pause the histories, it'll show you the same 12 videos every single day, except stuff you'd never search for.
"We're not going to make recommendations based on your current subscriptions or anything you control. We're going to give you random recommendations, and if you make the mistake of clicking on it once, it's going to escalate from there, and you have you use pro-gamer TH-cam knowledge and mechanics to keep this from happening."
TH-cam: recommends me cable news channels and late night talk shows
Me: "Do not recommend me these channels or any content from them ever, please."
TH-cam: "Okay we totally hear you... but... no."
Stop recommend same videos over and over again it becomes very annoying in long run.
I can't just click on the dots and click not interested for 80%-75% of the videos.
It would be really helpful to add or remove topics that you are interested in. Tastes change and it's quite hard to get out of a recommendations hole when you're not interested anymore.

You guys need to update this video every couple of months. Not every couple years. This one is already out of date. Right now my recommendation is full of 10-7 years old videos. I’ve never clicked one anywhere near that age unless I’ve searched for it. The topics aren’t even on par with those I watch. I’d rather have new, unknown or visited channels with new topics from different angles and opinions. My subscription list already shows me my interests. Along with now I’m recommended videos I’ve seen. Over and over.
Basically “TH-cam algorithms are TERRIBLE” but here, YOU’RE STUCK WITH THEM.
I have been trying to influence my recommendations for some time with mixed results. The one thing I would really like to NOT have to keep doing is flag something as "not interested" is because I've seen it already! Why do these items keep appearing in my recommenations like this? That would be such a great help if things I have already seen just doin't appear in my recommendations in the first place!

- Videos I've already watched are being suggested over and over? Some even have the full playback bar, so it knows I fully watched them already.
- Videos I've marked "not interested" (sometimes *several times*) and even specified a reason (mostly "already watched") are being suggested over and over?

TH-cam, and Google, and everyone in charge should really take comments in this video seriously. TH-cam recommendations has only gotten worse over time. Now, it recommends videos that have already been watched instead of new videos (which is ironic because that's one of the things that made youtube so appealing, the fact that every video you clicked could lead you to so many other videos related to the one you were watching). It also prioritizes videos due to popularity. More than half of the recommendations I have right now on this video are from a verified youtube channel. I don't want to watch the most popular videos, I want to dig into whatever topic I want and just go on a TH-cam video journey that leads me somewhere completely unexpected. We used to have that, I remember this feature being the main appeal of YT. It really sucks that the current experience of browsing videos feels so unfair, specially to smaller channels, and that I can no longer experience youtube the same way I used to. Too bad there is no other choice other than YT, I swear if I found one that had a better algorythm, I would migrate in a heartbeat.
i swear all ive been watching for the past few days are videos that i want to watch, yet very few of them appear on my homepage, but i watch ONE VIDEO OF AN UNRELATED VIDEO I DON'T WANT TO WATCH, AND I GET FLOODED WITH THOSE TYPES OF VIDEOS
Pausing or clearing your history, just means that you go NO CONTENT IN YOUR RECOMMENDATION LIST! Zip! Nada, Nothing! Just the mix list that never changes.

Hi. My problem is not that I don't like the videos, is more that if I only see videos related to what I have already watched I am never going to discover anything, see something new, explore. And that is really annoying and dull.
Especially because a feature I really liked was the "+50 List" which some years ago I used to discover new music: I would select a song I like and then youtube would create a list of similar artists/sounds and queue them. That was great. Also when watching something on a topic I would get suggestions that are related to the topic. Now it does not matter what I watch the 50+ list and the suggestions are always the same and completely unrelated. They are basically useless and annoying. I feel like somehow in the last two years youtoube's algorithm seems to have changed towards this self resonance box. Is it possible to for me personally make it rely on what Im watching on the moment an not what I watched before?

How can I stop videos I have seen already from flooding my recommended? How do I get new videos from the creators I sub to and are like them? 90% of my recommended is videos I have already seen. I do the "Not interested" option and say I have already seen it but I still keep getting them.

TH-cam, every comment here are people stuck in suggestion loops. Can you PLEASE allow users to pick new topics they are interested for suggestions! Other apps have this as their FIRST intro screen. Something that allows you to pick from common topics or even search for topics other than just subscribing to channels. Having this level of control would make youtube even more amazing! Right now my personal suggestions could also be way more broad instead of the same things over and over.

youtube should recommend vidoes and divide them by category on the main page. Ex if i watch lots of music, economy, documentary and so on, those should be in recommended categories. Right now its random and same recommendations from channels i subscribe and videos i have already watched.i can scroll the whole main page without finding anything interesting to watch.

Your algorithm for recommendations is broken. I've now been through the comments of several videos like this one and it's clear I am not the only one stuck in a feedback loop of videos I've already watched, "liked," channels I am subscribed too, and insanely annoying TH-cam gamers and pranksters.
Take a company retreat and rebuild recommendations from the ground up.
Why is there so much extra sponsored content, followed by further irrelevant content suggestion sections, in my search results? I searched for something for a reason. Why don't you have a way to remove this feature? You should not be like FB and give people the chance to opt out and not have their ADD prayed upon.

My son watched a ton of dandtm and popularmmos videos on my phone during a road trip this summer and now every time I watch ANY video, regardless of the topic, the next up on auto play is something from one of those guys or minecraft / fortnight themed. SEVEN MONTHS LATER and not having ever looked up anything game related before or since.
Feel free to use the 3-dot menu > Not Interested to share this feedback! These "up next" videos are automatically selected based on many signals, including what is popular to watch next so they're not necessarily personalized to you.

Why do i keep getting recommended videos that I already watched? How do I stop that?
Google says F U I guess... Try "not interested", "tell us why", "I already watched it".
complete BS. None of this works and the recommendations are so stupid that youtube apparently has no idea what I have watched, what language I speak, and most of all, the "not interested" and "don't recommend channel" options do not affect later recommendations because those videos and channels continue to be recommended. Everything about google is amateur hour. If the system I run for my company worked like this I would be GONE in one day.
Here's a concept, add a menu that actually appears on the screen unlike your phantom "likes" that allows us to TELL you what we want to watch, since your vaunted algorithm seems to think I want to watch videos in languages I don't speak.
It culminated with a blank recommendations screen today....blank. There is no clearer sign of your abject technical and business failure than a recommended page with zero videos listed. Meanwhile, bitchute, minds, rumble, dailymotion, libry and others all have features that allow the user to select content types by meta category.

I keep getting the same rcommendations all the time, and lately, ON THE SAME PAGE. If I didn't choose it from the top of the page, I'm not going to choose it at the bottom of the page. What happened to TH-cam?
I wish these things helped my recommendations. I constantly have to remind TH-cam that I have already watched videos and I have not paused anything.
I am amazed that Google has all of these incredible search tools, but keeps recommending the same videos and hundreds of music videos over and over. Going to look at another option.

What do I do about videos that I was interested in... but then watched.... then TH-cam kept recommending over and over? I’ve already watched them. I don’t dislike the content so I don’t want TH-cam to think I don’t want to see content like it, but now TH-cam keeps serving the same 50 videos over and over every day for weeks. Is there any way to tell TH-cam not to show me videos that I’ve already watched?

TH-cam has deleted billions of videos with their fascist censorship agendas. Thats the reason they are recommending videos 10 years old and ones you have already watched - They have censored most of their content away. (and its only going to get worse. Move to Bitchute. This is crap... TH-cam just recommends me videos that I have already watched... It used to give great suggestions, but that was a long time ago...
How can I remove certain subjects from being recommended? For instance, the app keeps recommending gaming and sports. I will never ever in a million years watch one of these videos. I block all those channels everyday, but still they are a good 20% of the recommendation. So annoying.

Thanks for sending our way - your recommendations are based on various factors like your watch history, videos that you’ve liked. You can manage your recommendations by selecting "Not interested" from the three dot menu. It'll influence how YT suggests videos to you in the future.

I know you're probably just some underpaid person tasked with giving generic answers here, but if you have any way of letting the programmers know we are wishing for better filters, please do it.
Suggestions:
- Filter for upload time (like the one for google search results, for example: past 24 hours, past week etc.)
- Filter for "only videos of channels I have subscribed to"
or
- do some "people who watch the channels you're subscribed to also subscribed to: [...]" algorithm and then only show videos for those channels
I have my history on and youtube has only been recommending the same exact videos from the same creators for years now, there is rarely anything new in my suggestions next to the video. It’s always videos I've watched already seen.
I delete the COVID NEWS section EVERY TIME I SEE IT. TH-cam says "Got it. We'll tune your recommendations," however...I still get the exact same videos on my page.

97% of the video's recommended for me have I already watched (30%) it is so bad that I get video's recommended that I have watched 3-4 hours ago and it won't go away with the not interested button altough other video's come that I have also already watched that.And the rest is just boring crap that I never watch but still get recommended. So I would say that you would need to get another algorythm option in your settings. Maybe the 'explore other video algorytm' that won't just keep showing the same old crap.Last thing: I have another youtube account for listening to things and music but I stopped with music because I get in a loop of the same songs that I can't get out of. So annoying that I am considering to quit watching youtube.
TH-cam is constantly recommending me videos that I've watched. My History is turned on. Another annoying thing is that the algorithm is weighting recommendations on popularity more than relevance. It is slowly turning to a mainstream TV or radio-station.
Try "not interested", "tell us why", "I already watched it".

We should be able to delete topics. Topics seem to be weighted almost equally in your algo, which I think is causing some of the problems that people here are complaining about.

Lordy. Your suggestions are getting worse by the day. I have never watched a sports video, yet you keep on recommending one after another, IN SPITE OF THE FACT that I have marked every single one as Not Interested or Don't recommend channel. Also, I am absolutely not interested in watching videos I already watched. Mark every single one as "not Interested", yet here I am, still having already watched videos on every single page.
It would also be really great to have the ability to sort my subscribed videos into topics. Not being able to do that stops me from subscribing to new channels as it becomes just too messy.
The information on getting rid of videos by pressing Not Interested, is patently untrue. The same videos keep coming back!!!

YT home/recommended/trending are so, So, SOOOOOO incredibly bad. Home/recommended are so narrow that it is mostly videos I've ALREADY watched. (You know this. I know you do.) Whereas "trending" seems to not be affected in ANY way by my history. Based on my nearly exclusive consumption of social science; international news; content in French/Spanish/Italian; longform, academic debates and soccer I feel like it should be clear that I'm not going to watch ANYTHING that I've ever seen in the "trending" section. I get that the "trending" section isn't supposed to be personalized to the same extent as my "home." But there's obviously more than one bc you have to account for different languages/locations/(ages?) at the very least. Yet the content in "trending" is so alien to my interests that I don't even want to expend a calorie trying to describe/label it. Let it suffice for me to say that it makes me worry for the future of the world far more than any news event ever has.
I truly WANT to be able to watch much more content via YT. But I can't. I watch news and get recommendations for news that is years old??? The "up next" barely changes based on what video I'm currently watching. But the award for most moronic (lack of) feature is a no-brainer. I can filter for "short" videos of under 4 minutes. I can filter for "long" videos of over 20. But I can't include/exclude videos anywhere in between!!!???!!!??? Guess what. I don't want to watch 3 minutes of soccer highlights from a match. I also (usually) don't want to watch 30 minutes of "highlights." Also I don't consider a 22 minute video to be in the same content category as a 3 hour one. How the h3ll are there only two, DISJOINTED duration filters!?!
I could go on almost endlessly about the moronic, incoherent "personalization," "search," and filter functions available on YT. But I have two recommendations that, even by themselves, would make YT far more useful to me and the vast, vast majority of users. 1) include an easily-accessible date toggle that applies to ALL video recommendations and searches. This should be super prominent and always available. When I change it, it should persist with that filter until I change it again. Most people rarely want to see content that is more than a month or two old. If I'm watching videos for a topic where the date doesn't matter than I can easily toggle it to reflect that.
2) Use videos I've scrolled past as an input. If I scroll past 100 videos on my home page and refresh I shouldn't see the same bl00dy 100 videos after refreshing. That is so basic that I can't believe I feel the need to type it. And if I've scrolled past a certain video 20 times over the course of the week I probably don't want to watch that video. And, no, we shouldn't have to specify that we aren't interested video by video. There's way too much content for that to be useful/necessary.
If YT made these two changes it would seriously be 100x more useful. There are plenty of others that should be made. But just these two would go suuuuuuuuUUUUUUuuuuuuch a loooooong way.
Pornhub does everything better. From recommendations to video length options... Maybe we should all just move the content there...

Is there a way to block everything that contains a specific word? Or alternatively, can you add a "REALLY not interested" option? I've indicated that I'm not interested in a specific topic easily over 100 times now (I'm actually starting to keep count) but I keep seeing it fill my recommendation feed. This is something that I'm not just 'not interested in' but rather something I actively never want to see.

My TH-cam recommendation is so messed up that after I finished watching this video I got 20 more videos of the same topic on my recommended, this same video over and over and other videos from this channel. Fix the algorithm and recommendation, TH-cam.

yeah, the real problem here is youtube trying to "change" what it percieves as wrong think in many of its users. This is such a controlled enviroment compared to 2008-2016 era youtube. They've made it unstustainable for many types of content unless you're "too big to fail" and even those guys have to take youtube to court from time to time.
can we make the algorithm a little more forgiving? I can't watch a single video off preference without getting a whole home page of it. We liked our variety.
How about a feature that allows you to enter a word for videos you don't want recommended? I absolute do not want ASMR, mukbang, NOT CLICKBAIT, music videos, late night TV shows or news channels videos suggested to me. As for the last two, I come to TH-cam to get away from TV, not to be suggested more TV that I have no interest in. If I could enter a word into a "filtering" feature that filters out a word I have no interest in, it would be nice. You could even expand to remove livestreams if that's interesting.
Example: I enter the word "ASMR" or "elbows" into a filter so that this filter will remove roughly 90% of those videos with that word in the title or tags for just me.
Call it a "Don't suggest these:" and then add options such as tags, length, words, channels, type of video, etc.,
I find myself spending too much time clicking "not interested" or "don't suggest channel" for too long and it's making me less interested in this site.
How do I stop it from recommending old videos on a topic? If I keep clicking “I don’t like the video” for the old ones, will it learn that I only want the new ones? Or will it think I don’t want to watch that topic?
You can't say "not interested" or "don't recommend channel" when it is coming up in search. I have reported and blocked content and I AM STILL SEEING IT. Why in the world would you recommend me disgusting content AGAIN which I have reported it. TH-cam is terrible. The alogrithm is evil.
See its funny cause even after I tell you to stop recommending channels, I still get recommended them. One of them I'm actually counting. I've selected "Do not recommend this channel" 58 times as of writing this comment. It never works, and it never will work
Based on this, I have cleared and paused my history, since youtube only recommends either videos I've already watched, or videos I have no interest in, and almost never videos related to what I have watched, but have not yet watched... Except that I have not cleared my history or paused it. It would be amazing if youtube worked the way youtube thinks it works, but it does not.

My recommendations include videos I have watched and sometimes the red bar is not there even though the video shows in my history with a red bar. So now it's trying to trick me into rewatching videos!

This. Recommended videos take priority over videos from people I'm actually subscribed to, like why. In my home, I will have 3 videos from my subscriptions vs 10+ recommendations, and the number just gets bigger as i scroll down

I’ve cleared my history, but it didn’t clear my history even in the slightest. I JUST want a button to toggle, so I can watch things relevant to what I’m currently watching. If I’m watching comedy, show me more comedy; if I’m trying to learn about something, show me more of that topic. If I want to watch cat videos, don’t show me videos recs about physics. The TH-cam rabbithole was its best quality. And now it’s gone.

Is there a way to not get videos that you have already watched in your feed? like I watched doc about something, then for the whole two next days I get "you wanna watch this now right"
Not really. Try "not interested", "tell us why", "I already watched it". But it will probably be back next day...
"it's not always perfect" dude! it's not perfect at all! why the same videos keep showing up for weeks?? even videos I watched are still there in my homepage.

TH-cam keeps recommending me leg workout videos and I'm a paraplegic who never even HINTED at wanting any such content and the recommended videos are sometimes so hilariously unrelated, I've got recommended a titanium wood stove review to a video that discussed potential signs of life discovered on Venus... my recommendations are littered with subjects I'm not interested in in the slightest, some of which are utterly rude and insensitive!
You should give people the choice to manually enter their interests instead of leaving it to an algorithm proven to be utterly useless to figure it out automatically!

@eblman The worst thing about foreign language videos is that youtube automatically translates their title, so you THINK you will watch an english video, but you aren't, and regardless if you remove it from your watch history, youtube will continue recommending videos in that language, only because you were falsely lured to the first one. Utterly ridiculous, youtube should NOT TRANSLATE VIDEO TITLES!!!!
@John Yay Sure, and after the dozenth false report you either get banned, or shadow banned, only wasting your own time, sitting on an ignore list.
Add "relax algorithm" button, i feel like yt is eating its own tail with recomendations, showing me things i allready seen all the time.
I would love a switch or a button that makes it so videos i have watched before (doesn't matter how long ago) just wont be recommend to me, EVER. I hit not interested and don't recommend channel many many times, and i even hit "TELL US WHY" and select "I've Already Watched This Video" but alas i continue to get other videos i have watched before (even ones ive just finished watching then go to my recommends, refresh and there is the same video but now with a red line underneath it). Please all i want if thing i have not seen before (I haven't cleared my watch history or paused it either so I don't even see why it should recommend them anyway)
Also when i x watch categories (mainly the news) it removes it and says "Ok, We'll tune your reccomendations" but doesn't tune them at all and i get more news

Not in the home page before when searching on youtube you get result of the search but now receiving more { you might also like and different and recommendations} normally search equals to search results first

I use youtube to listen to music, but I almost never discover any new songs because youtube only ever recommends things I've already listened to. :(
When I log into youtube I only want to see videos uploaded in the last 24 hours or week
*THIS VIDEO IS A TOTAL LIE.* I made a Chrome extension to make using the recommendation feedback mechanisms actually convenient to use, and have been using it extensively for the past 6 months. Using "Not Interested" has literally ***ZERO*** affect on recommendations, even if you go through the trouble of saying "I do not like the video." Yes, it will avoid showing you that particular video, but only for like a week and then it will be back. Same with using "Do not recommended channel". After some time, recommendations for that channel come back in full force as they were before. Hitting dislike has **NO** affect on recommendations. LITERALLY NONE. You can dislike thousands of videos on a topic and TH-cam will still recommend them to you as if you hadn't done anything.
Clearing your TH-cam history DOESN'T HELP EITHER unless you erase it immediately after watching. Once TH-cam thinks you're interested, YOU ARE F'ED.
I watched ONE.... (ONE!!!!).... antique restoration video. I erased it from my history and literally any videos mentioning the words "antique" or "restore." I have hit "Not Interested" on COUNTLESS antique restoration videos. I've hit "Do not recommend channel" on COUNTLESS practically identical antique restoration channels. I hit "I do not like" COUNTLESS times on those videos. I've reported them for spam COUNTLESS times.
I STILL GET THEM CONSTANTLY. If anything TH-cam shows me MORE than they did before.
And that's just ONE of the topics TH-cam refuses to stop badgering me with! There are COUNTLESS more!
Why does YT recommend the same 400 videos that I didn't watch the last hundred times they were recommended in almost the same order, every time I hit the YT button. A year or so ago, you had an AI that was very good at recommending. Since then all the versions have been TERRIBLE.

Recommendations" Give us the ability to filter out by subject! I get so much irrelevant videos in my recommendation, on subjects I've never ever watched. Filter by subject would let me see more of the stuff I want to watch and keep all the crap I don't want to watch off my recommendation list. Oh MAKE THE RECOMMENDATION LIST BIGGER!!! 8 videos in all of youtube is a bit thin.
Here is the issue with that. Doing it by subject would mean allot of organizing. they arent even that good at organizing them by genre, let alone subject. I've seen cortoons put under the genre of sports. It was the simpsons.
If they get better at organizing their videos, I would love a subject search or like you said the ability to remove subjects from my recommended.
Ps. I've also seen politics under comedy. And while I do like trey Gowdy I dont find him very funny.

Or.. youtube could fix the algorithm that everyone knows is broken? EVERYONE gets recommended the same videos they've watched constantly already, it's like youtube doesn't want to show anyone new content anymore other than trending topics or things you've already watched. What happened to the recommended videos on the right? Now they've just turned into
"Recommended for you" instead of showing me something actually related to the video I'm watching, now I can get youtube's recommendations for videos I've already watched before instead of something useful! I literally find it HARD to find content that is relevant at all to what I want to watch with the current system, which is pretty sad when youtubes related/recommended videos used to be so good that it would be hard to STOP watching new things. Seriously pathetic.
What I learned from this video is:- You can have well groomed hair and eyebrows, multiple earrings and studs, lots of smiles, the correct length of whiskers, honest looking eyes and copious open-palm hand-movements designed to engender trust, and yet deliberately lie and deceive.

i have the feeling many buttons on this website are just for show... starting with the dislike button on comments and going over to "don't recommend channel" and "not interested"
there is no way to actually tune the recommendations
@John Yay yeah i know, it's the only thing that works. if i just report those 13 second news or animal clips, i actually don't see them anymore... such a supid system -.-
Question: if I remove content from the recommended, and at the "Tell us why" option I choose "I don't like the video/post", then will the channel which uploaded said content see that feedback?
Because if so, than I should probably stop using the "Tell us why" option
