    That was awesome to watch!!! Being zero schooled in geology, I assume the straws you were talking about were the crystal looking lines? If so could they have become full fledged crystals in time? Nature is the most incredible thing ever. A nondescript rock on a beach turned into a beautiful piece in the hands of someone with the knowledge just amazes me. Thank you for sharing your passion!

    • @RockhoundingLife
      @RockhoundingLife  ปีที่แล้ว +17

      The straws in tbis stone used to be the crystals of another mineral, likely a zeolite. Quartz replaced the zeolite mineral but took the shape of the zeolite crystal and left behind a more durable mineral. A similar process to how petrified wood is formed.

      Don't be put off! Anyone can learn this skill!
      It's not even hard exactly, just...fiddly, lol!
      It helps to have lot of attention to detail, a steady hand, and of course, LOTS of patience!
      Of course, the equipment that you see here is a bit of a killer....but you can do the same thing with much cheaper equipment. It'll just take a lot longer, is all.
      Better equipment just speeds up the process and makes it easier.

    Watched the grinding process at 2x speed, and its pretty epic.. Just saying! Even the music collaborates with it! That turned out crazy cool. I collected some similar rocks while on vacation in South Carolina last week. Makes me want to do this! Nice work, as always!

    That’s beautiful! I took lapidary in college and loved it. One time I found a stone with what looks like fairy face inside of it. I made a ring for my mother

    Cape George Point NS. Since I started rocking, the beach has turned from a jumble of grey rocks to a magic carpet of colors and discoveries.
