    I don't have words to thank you enough. I'm trying to get into fpv. This video is pretty good, too much important information shared at once. I hope other noobs find your videos "by accident" as I did. THANKS!

    We Europeans only have Banggood, GearBest, Hobby King, Amazon and ebay. Would love to buy from USA but customs charges are a killer. I love my Turnigy Evolution designed specifically for miniquads. My Taranis I use for my larger PixHawk ships. Both radio protocols are solid and ibus is arguably better than sbus.

    • @Ie0n1
      @Ie0n1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheAnqueetas FrSky is the gold standard for 2.4Ghz range. You can get a tiny, 2.6g XM+ diversity receiver for 13$. Everyone's using FrSky, so you can rebind your backup quad for your friend. Every modern FC can invert Sbus.

      Leon C. I bought a Turnigy Evolution with receiver,with battery,with USB lead for 51gbp from Hobby King UK store with 4.99GBP 24hr delivery. For the sole purpose of flying a mini quad and it works on all simulators too. A great start for a noob, which this video claims to speak to. I have a Teranis as I have said which is better suited to my larger,long range copters. Gold standard! Says who? Futaba may disagree with you.

      35$ more could've bought you a proper radio.

      Leon C. Thanks I already have a real radio, which one are you referring to for 80GBP including rechargeable battery and receiver? Again, missing the point.

    I started to go the "other way" when people talk about how much a race quad cost to build... I say the total prive when I pick absolute top of the line parts on everything I can maximum use 4500Kr. (Currency in denmark) equal to 650$ and that is with a minimum effort googleling for parts and not spending a ton on shipping and taxes.. but best parts in the cheapest shops...
    and I don't find that amount obscene.... but the important part is that compared to the cheap ones you build with the compromise on especially frame and essential parts (like a tramp or tbs vtx so you can play well with others) and a frame you can actually buy spare parts to is in my opinion key.... goggles and transmitter you can buy second hand or the qx7 (also the one I recommend!)
    And if they have more money to spend, buy more lipo's!!!

    Started watching your channel more intently recently, gotta say I REALLY enjoy the straight forward and honest approach. Already a bunch of new things learned just in a handful of views. Working on a 5" build now...simply awaiting the BangGood shipment time...hooray...
    Keep up the good stuff man!

    An extremely cheap way to get into the hobby (or just test it to see if you like it) would be to buy an E011 an AIO Cam/Cam&VTx an STLink+wires. You can mod this tiny whoop clone into an indoor acro quad for under $45USD, all form banggood. Add onto this the Taranis Q X7 and a $8USD multiprotocol module, and you can now control this tiny acro quad with a taranis. You can get a OTG 5.8GHz FPV receiver ($24USD) which will work with windows computers via USB in real time to view and record your flights. This is extremely good for both learning acro IRL and getting friends/family into the hobby.

    Whoops, I accidentally bought 3 of the 1500mAh 55C packs from CHL.
    Eh, by the time I learn to be good enough to utilize the higher C and (maybe?) lower weight pack, I'll probably run through those 3 packs and need new ones.

    I have a QX-7 and a X9D. I also have a Turnigy Evolution. Its a great radio and dont hesitate to try one out for the money. I still prefer the hall sensor gimbals on my X9D but, if price is a factor, Evolution IS a contender.

    Good video! I wish I had used sims first before I went all out on a 250 build and lost it a few days later only to rebuild and lost the second one a month later! FF 2 years, I have 3 racing drones and have about $7000 all together into this awesome hobby. Its an obsession and I Love it. I wish I had learned early on was how to care for batteries. One of the worst things to greatly degrade your battery is to leave it fully charged for more than a few days. I dont leave mine charged for more than 12 hrs. I would rather accidentally overdischarge a battery than leave it charged too long.

      How about reducing the voltage when your charger stops charging to 4.1 or 4.0 volts per cell? How much of a reduction in flight time vs 4.2/cell?

    Super great video!! Thanks for the video. I've put just over a grand into the hobby and I have a pretty OK quad that already needs repair that I'm hesitant to invest in (Vusion 250) a Tiny Whoop which doesn't help me learn accro flying or freestyle moves (my attraction and interest) and a bunch of other stuff. What I don't have yet is a controller that I can plug into the computer for Sim time #shame or a 5 inch quad. I still don't regret anything yet, I love everything about RC flying, but I do wish I'd come across this video months ago. Looking forward to more videos.

    All good, however the Eachine Wizard that intro-ed so many of us into the hobby remains a Stable craft one year later. Side panels off ,,, new camera, New TBS Unify same old motors , change stupid thin top plate as needed. Still a great investment . Discovered FlySky was not an industry standard and upgraded to QX7 pretty quickly and now have Cross fire on my Armattans but still use FrSky for most of my bashers and a few select Cadillac frames like the Japlura 4" , cause who really needs Crossfire range in the city. Granted its great for large fields and if you dare to dive stuff but you would then need expensive video range to ALMOST keep up with your new radio range.

    I'm friends with Chad Novak on Facebook and he keeps putting me down because I say you don't need to spend lots of money to get into fpv drones saying the inexpensive stuff is crap I tried to explain to him that it's not like when he started the hobby and the cheap stuff was cheap now quality stuff is in expensive it's just fact he refuses to accept reality. I love how you give honest and real opinions about stuff and you actually try different things there for you can form an opinion and educated opinion about different products and how they compare and contrast to one another

    UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH wish i would've listened to videos like this (or known about them) when I started. I have a bunch of tiny whoops and other brushed builds, 3" builds, 2" inch builds, 2.5" builds and 5" inch builds ... each with their own batteries and what not. Should have just dumped all my cash / time into 5" builds and FrSky. **So much less tinkering**. So much easier to build. So much more support. So much more fun and durable. GRANTED: You can really hurt people, property or yourself very easily with these things. I think people underestimate the damage 1lb carbon fiber block can do at 30-70mph or polycarbonate blades spinning at 90bajillion rpm - and just how easy it is for these to get out of hand.
    I'm starting to really enjoy two different build platforms: 3" 1104 2s for backyard storming and ultra quiet flying and 5" 4s for everything else. I need to stop wasting time on anything else.

    • @tannerdns9048
      @tannerdns9048 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      at one point i actually thought whoops and small brushless quads were cool. now, i hate them. i'd rather fly a simulator if i can't fly outside and even in small places i'd rather have a 5" quad. it's still a pretty small aircraft. like he said... the versatility of a 5" quad is amazing

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I often fly my 5" where I really should be flying a 3" quad too. But I really just don't like the feel of anything less than 5". Similarly, 6" is also pushing it in terms of feel. It would need to be on 5S at least for it to have a similar zip to it.

    • @CesiumSalami
      @CesiumSalami 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      On this topic: do you have any recommendations for whisper quiet 5" propellers for the surreptitious flyer?

    • @tannerdns9048
      @tannerdns9048 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      CesiumSalami tri blades seem to be quieter. the higher the RPM the louder. you could try 3s and low kv motors for a quieter flight, but you'll obviously suffer power. my 6" quad on triblades with 2100kv motors on 5s is significantly quieter than my 5" 4s 2600kv quads

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes actually. Use the Emax Avan prop (if it ever comes out!) and 3S. It's gonna be really really quiet like a Prius. 3S in general is like half the noise of 4S. Even at just a hover I feel like. I'm receiving the final prototypes of the emax prop some time in the next week or two. They're really taking their sweet time on it.

    Lots of people are saying great things about the new amoway goggles. Stu has a great review. Still run $300+ for a pair.
    If I was starting over, I wouldn't have gotten a prebuilt from eachine. I would have built my own. There's a ton of resources to assist on line.
    Also, I'd start in acro. The other modes screwed me up for a long time. Definitely agree with starting on a good sim.

    Just shared the video to people interested in entering the Hobby. Only thing maybe to update the BnF ones like Holybro Kopis, EMAX Eagle, Armattan Rooster, Armattan Chameleon BnF options are great if building at the start is too much, but sooner or later you will have to build your own and is the way to go because knowing your Quad is important for repairs.

  • @Steve-O_FPV
    @Steve-O_FPV 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Better yet. Don't buy a transmitter, simulator or a quad. Go power on your playstation, download Battlefield 4 or Battlefield Hardline and jump in an empty server on the internet and choose the helicopter and start flying. After you have flown that for a while and are able to hover and land go buy a cheap transmitter and a cheap drone and some cheap parts and start having a blast like I did. I love fixing what breaks and I have loads of fun flying and I owe it all to Battlefield and cheap parts from Banggood. Don't let somebody tell you what to buy or not to buy. Buy what you want and have fun. Its that easy. You don't have to buy EXPENSIVE parts to enjoy this hobby.

    Piroflip is awesome. They stand behind what they sell. The Tatuu batteries 1300 4s 75c for $19.99 is actually a pretty awesome value (currently sold out, but they come back in stock). Only problem is that stuff sells out if it is good. Hell, things that aren't good sell out fast in this hobby because the hype train gets going.

  • @hughhemington9559

    More BNF models are setup for FrSky, and ACCST is a fundamentally better frequency-hopping technology than a Turnigy. Your range may not be an issue, but it never is until it is, and then it's often too late and your savings go away in a hurry.

  • @InFrontOfYourBack1
    @InFrontOfYourBack1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow. Thanks for the battery link! I ordered a few to try out. They're promoting their new 100C..lol. For $2 more I splurged.
    The best batteries I've ever used have been the Strix 1550's from RMRC. They're pricey but have endless power. I've also run with indestructible quads. They're good, but a bit on the heavy side. My lipos (pink wrapper) seem to have power, but cells don't balance well and they have a paper thin wrapper. Turnigy nano (not graphine..too damn heavy) on hobbyking seem to be the best value so far. Good for lighter craft.
    Haven't seen these show up anywhere until now. Looking forward to beating on these a bit.

    Just wanna say i agree fully with your transmitter recommendation. But, flysky Tx for $ 50 bucks is a great deal as an entry radio and ten bucks for a PC adapter. You just completely described my situation. 2016 flew nothing but toy drones by Syma, Hubsan, and Holy Stone. In 2017 I bought a Mavic Pro, bought tons of stuff for it and lost interest mid year. Why? Although it's a great mobile camera platform, it's not very exciting to fly. I've been doing research on building a 5" race drone, and also deciding on which transmitter to buy. I've been close to pulling the trigger on a Taranis QX7, but your video convinced me to do it now. It's going to be a couple months before the snow is gone, so I can play around with the simulators in the meantime. Thanks for all the great information. Liked and subscribed!

    Hey Bob.
    What's with the Torrent and the different props front and back?
    I've actually thought about doing something like that myself. My thought was, the back motors have to work harder, so putting more aggressive props could balance the work load. Just a theory. Is that what you're testing?
    Another thought I've been playing with in my head. On front drive tuner cars, like a Civic, tend to under-steer. To counteract this, we would put a wider tire on the front than on the back. This reduces the overall grip of the car, but makes the balance a bit better. The back has less grip, relative to the front, making it feel more willing to rotate.
    Are you testing this sort of thing out? Or did you just run out of props for the Torrent?
    Great video BTW really giving the noobs some good advice.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know only like 2 US based companies, which can ship to Europe properly. Just checked PiroFlipRC and they don't ship to Europe. On the other hand Banggood ships everywhere for free and usually they get through customs easy :)

      RandomWisdom There are tons of great european shops: flyduino, MRP, flyingmachines, n-factory, rctech...
      Yes Banggood is cheaper, but by buying their crappy hardware that takes 2 months to arrive, you're contributing of the "there are no local shops" issue.

    I looked at the goggles you linked, and I didn't see mention of diversity. I'm not sure if there's a difference between dual antenna and diversity, but I thought I'd let you know that they are possibly *not* diversity.

      Really the only downside I see with those goggles is the (seemingly) low-res screen. 480x272 doesn't sound like it would give a lot of details when outside and trying to spot branches. How much of a difference would be seen with a similar goggle that has a 800x480 screen?

    For someone like me who has no idea how to build a nice fast tight 5 inch quad. Would you ever suggest an ARF drone like the new 5S Wizard X220S or the Diatone Crusader GT2017 ?? I thinkI might be able to handle upgrades and fixes better than building from scratch. Would you still recommend building from scratch for someone in my position ? I am thinking about your custom build or something similar but am slightly worried a custom build might be much harder to tune than an ARF quad ? What are your thoughts please ?

    Regarding goggles, the Aomway commander/FU-RC goggles are comparable to the fatshark dominator v3's, except they come with a diversity receiver built in. Much cheaper too, about 300 US.

  • @JC-zg2id
    @JC-zg2id 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I prefer my modified quanum v2 box goggles over the most expensive fatsharks. They r just more immersive and I don't mind the size and look. My quanum a have more immersion than any other goggle on the market, feels pretty comfortable, and only cost like $60. The $400 fatsharks cost almost x7 more and the only advantage is (maybe) better reception, smaller size, and less weight. Just my opinion. And I think it could be others too. The box goggles have a better experience when you are flying but are a pain when traveling. Also have you tried the Aomway Commander goggles? Seem like a decent competitor to the fatsharks in both price and performance. Nice vid!

  • @tsmspace
    @tsmspace 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I whole-heartedly disagree. It's true, you can jump right in to very high performance craft after playing a high performance craft simulator,, but toys teach a pilot a lot about subtle aerodynamics, and not every pilot is in FPV for the rush of a huge burst of speed and just the right flip. You are correct, we all want those sweet moments and thrills, but you have to think,, everyone who says don't buy toys,, DID buy lots of toys, AND fly them. so THEIR performance is a representation of what happens when you DO buy toys,,, and then there are a lot of people who DON"T get so far along, and they jumped straight to an alien,,,, so I have to say that toys and cheap things are materials that offer learning, and although their performance is limited, they are very valuable for piloting experience. If someone feels that they want to buy a toy or a cheap kit, they will probably benefit from it, and FPV will grow more than if they try to spend all of their money on goggles instead of a cheap screen and more vehicles.

      I can recommend Emax motors, 2205 or above. around the 2400-2500 KV area if you are building a 5" quad. it goes well with the F4 Flame Race spec flight controller and BLHeli Littlebee Spring 30A ESC's.

    Hey Bob great video I wish someone had made these recommendations a few years ago watching TH-camrs like quadcopter 101 which is a good channel but mostly demos toy quads I thought it was a good idea to start with toys of course I later figured out it was a total waste of money like you said but I disagree with your recommendation for a noobie to build their first racing drone their second ok I say this because these days you can buy something like the Eachine wizard cheaper than you can build your own and they can see if the hobby is for them as you know building a drone requires some skills which not everyone is capable of it also requires many tools like a good soldering station ,wire cutters,Allen wrenches,tweezers and many more which cost a good bit now for someone that knows this is the hobby for them I would absolutely recommend building their own anyway I would like to see you make a video on building your hyperfloss I built mine last week and it is a beast I went with the 5" version speedix 4 in 1 and f40 pro motors and the performance is insane

    I personally have a Turnigy Evolution and I think it's great but I am really thining about getting a QX7. Little story:
    I've built two quads one is a ZMR250 and the other is a Martian 1 *I think*, I lost the ZMR250 and the Martian is having issues. Anyways to the point, I have been flying DRL a few times and I actually changed my "stance" from thumbs to pinch, I do much better at pinching than I do thumbs. Question, would changing to a Taranis type controller be a better option now?
