Congress was corrupt even by 1969 and Indira Gandhi was no better. But Congress still had many old generation stalwarts, many of who had good connection with Ghantasala. Probably some notable great people like VV Giri and PVNR had good relation with him. So, it was difficult to refuse a request from them. Indira Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi almost damaged Kishore Kumar's career for one year during emergency when sang for some movie which was politically against them. They had forbidden All India Radio from airing his songs.
The thought that Ghantasala lived long enough to see the Patanaavastha of congress has a different meaning to me. We would have had a phenomenal classical music college in Vijayawada under his guidance, and a new wave of classical banee that would have challenged the Madras schools.
