    Bought hokas online. Thought the same thing when I tried them on. Couldn’t return them in time and they sat in my closet for 2 months. Decided to wear them out one day just out of the guilt of not returning them in time. that turned into a 15 hour day on my feet where I was comfortable the entire time. I understand the hype now and reach for hokas over brooks, asics, new balance, Nikes. Trying them on at the store does not give you the experience of truly wearing hokas. You absolutely have to break them in and they will form to your foot in a way that brings indescribable comfort. I think far too many people have become used to having their toes jammed together and don’t understand what a shoe should feel like on the foot. Hokas for all.

    Running a race with new shoes is pretty risky 😬
    I don’t think it’s the arch support from hoka that bothered your feet (they’re known for making pretty neutral shoes) as much as it could have been that they were gussetted. That means they have elastic bands around the middle of your feel that help a bit with arch support but other things also. However, it makes them feel tight, almost like they’re pinching your feet. I learned about it and started cutting my gussets on my hoka, but now I don’t run in hoka anymore.

    I don’t know why everyone is body shaming her, it’s gross. Anyway, as a distance track and cross country runner, I wore brooks and honestly they begin to flatten out really easily. Take that as you will, this can obviously lead to injuries, etc, and I wouldn’t recommend them if you’re doing high, high mileage. Hokas offer a lot more cushioning and it takes some time to get used to, but they eventually get super comfortable. Nike as well. If you’re a distance runner, go for more cushioning. If you’re thinking of only doing sprints, flatter shoes will work.

      @@hivanessaa So far all the shoes by Lems have been my favorite. I like 0-drop, but I don't always like "barefoot" (ie, I like some distance between my foot and the ground), so I really love that they have a chart with the "ground feel" level of each of their shoes. I've owned 4 pairs 😅. The Primal Zen is my gym shoe, the Boulder Summit is my work boot, the Trailhead is my hiking shoe. I also have a pair of Primal 3s, but the soles on those are too thin for me.
      A lot of people also like Altra shoes, but they are very expensive and not great for people with wide feet. Personally I think they are a little over-engineered, but I like my Escalante 3s for days when it's too hot to wear my boots at work.

  • @yep8362
    @yep8362 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

    It looks like even though you have medium arches, you do pronate when you walk which is the flexing/falling inwards of the ankle and arches. This may be why the Hoka Clifton or Bondi were uncomfortable as the arch piece is suited for medium to high arches with little to no pronation axis. While the Brooks Ghost and New Balance have a more similar shape and lower arch style like the Nikes you have. Every brand is different and it’s super important to find what works for you! 500-600 miles is the max that most running shoes are good for otherwise they may start hurting your knees, feet, or back.

    I'm from a family of runners and my mom has been a big time runner all her life. She switched to hokas a few years back snd wound up with a really horrible hip injury. All the cushion is not necessarily good for you and can wind up redistributing weight in an unnatural way. Just a warning.

    So I have really low arches (not flat footed, just low arches) and I do more hiking and walking, so I really like Altra's trail shoes because they're 0 plane with wide toe boxes and flexible soles. Had that feeling with one specific series of Hoka too. Tried another series and they’re the most comfortable shoes I ever owned. Took me a while to finde the right one too.

    300 miles in the same pair of shoes also might explain the shin splints. Everyone is different but my shin splints get bad when I’m wearing worn out shoes.

    In Australia we have a poorly named running shoe store called Athlete's Foot. They do foot analysis and have done so for years, it's not that special of a thing here as these places are so common and have affordable common shoe brands as well as expensive brands

    Love this.! I've always stuck to my reliable Brooks (gts 9 launch), but I felt like I needed to try different shoes too since I don't love all Brooks for my running. Ended up with some New Balances 880s that I absolutely adore.! Upping my mileage a lot recently and I needed shoes with a touch more cushion/support, but not a crazy amount like Hokas. Anyways, fun running.!

    "which explains the shin splints" girl, running this much is what explains the shin splints 😂 runners always acting like its some kind of mystery, as if orthopedic doctors haven't been screaming for decades about how excessive running is detrimental for your health.

    Thank you! Not a Hoka hater, but it’s almost like a cult to new runners. You gotta test shoes and not assume you need such height. Watch your pronation. Pronating isn’t always bad. Arch support and toes box.. gotta test. For me, a simple shoe with a neutral offset proved to be the best. Atreyu running shoes for road and treadmill . For trail running, ASICS trail sneaker

    The basic Hokas are probably not best for you BUT they specifically have a stabilization sneaker and those are amazing. I favor one side a bit and use to get horrible shin splints / ALL gone with the Hokas!

  • @SensationallySilky
    @SensationallySilky 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Knowing what your feet need in terms of stability/motion control and cushion is critical for your best athletic performance. It sucks that often the sneakers we prefer aesthetically are not the best ones for our feet. I did this analysis a number of years ago when I was running more. Recently I was dealing with some funky back pain ... Five minutes back in my sneakers and no pain....
