I bought the fresh foam 680s on clearance and absolutely love them! I’m just a few miles away from 300 and I want another pair! I like feeling the ground as well and don’t really care for all the cushion in some of my other running shoes
When i first started running i ran barefoot on a treadmill sl when i startes running outside or going to the gym i needed shoes where i felt more of the ground lol
Right! I had the ASICS Kayano 27, but when I tried 30 - the latest model - it felt too soft and bulky; I could not feel the ground at all. It’s hard to find good stability shoes
After breaking my foot 2x in the same spot, I did the same thing and did the foot analysis. Ended up leaving the store in tears because I had no pain in the problem foot. Best decision ever!!
Bought hokas online. Thought the same thing when I tried them on. Couldn’t return them in time and they sat in my closet for 2 months. Decided to wear them out one day just out of the guilt of not returning them in time. that turned into a 15 hour day on my feet where I was comfortable the entire time. I understand the hype now and reach for hokas over brooks, asics, new balance, Nikes. Trying them on at the store does not give you the experience of truly wearing hokas. You absolutely have to break them in and they will form to your foot in a way that brings indescribable comfort. I think far too many people have become used to having their toes jammed together and don’t understand what a shoe should feel like on the foot. Hokas for all.
I had the opposite experience - gave me huge knee, hip and ankle issues after a single day of wear. Physio says it's not uncommon with the Hokkas. And they felt good in store 😭
I had the opposite experience :( I wish I loved my hokas, since my mom who has really high arches loves hers. I've been wearing them as work shoes for a couple months, standing for around 7 hours at a time, and they stay uncomfortable. I had to get gel inserts to make them wearable.
I walk my dogs daily for 5 miles, it's really not that bad! I suggest starting small, walk around your neighborhood, then start jogging, you don't need to run for very long at all :)
A good pair of shoes should last 300mi without problem, although I've had shoes break down after much less (~100 miles) - I'm looking at you new balance 880s.
Running a race with new shoes is pretty risky 😬 I don’t think it’s the arch support from hoka that bothered your feet (they’re known for making pretty neutral shoes) as much as it could have been that they were gussetted. That means they have elastic bands around the middle of your feel that help a bit with arch support but other things also. However, it makes them feel tight, almost like they’re pinching your feet. I learned about it and started cutting my gussets on my hoka, but now I don’t run in hoka anymore.
I don’t know why everyone is body shaming her, it’s gross. Anyway, as a distance track and cross country runner, I wore brooks and honestly they begin to flatten out really easily. Take that as you will, this can obviously lead to injuries, etc, and I wouldn’t recommend them if you’re doing high, high mileage. Hokas offer a lot more cushioning and it takes some time to get used to, but they eventually get super comfortable. Nike as well. If you’re a distance runner, go for more cushioning. If you’re thinking of only doing sprints, flatter shoes will work.
I bought some Brooks as a walking shoe and they were comfy, but the seams started to come undone within a year. And, I wouldn’t even say I used them “hard”. A few times a week. Medium pace.
Yes my mom went from ASICS to brooks. My dad laughed at her for paying much more, but she was like, I didn’t realize it wasn’t supposed to hurt, and now it doesn’t. I think I’ve converted her.
I am also a medium arch girly but three years ago I started wearing zero-drop shoes and it changed my whole life. No more shin splints or sore arches or that thing where the ball of your foot burns for no reason when ur just standing for a long time. zero-drop basically just means flat, but most zero-drop shoes also come with wide toe boxes that allow your toes to splay all the way while you run. This corrected my balance issues too
@@hivanessaa So far all the shoes by Lems have been my favorite. I like 0-drop, but I don't always like "barefoot" (ie, I like some distance between my foot and the ground), so I really love that they have a chart with the "ground feel" level of each of their shoes. I've owned 4 pairs 😅. The Primal Zen is my gym shoe, the Boulder Summit is my work boot, the Trailhead is my hiking shoe. I also have a pair of Primal 3s, but the soles on those are too thin for me. A lot of people also like Altra shoes, but they are very expensive and not great for people with wide feet. Personally I think they are a little over-engineered, but I like my Escalante 3s for days when it's too hot to wear my boots at work.
I switched to Altras and it literally shaved a minute off of my, admittedly not very fast, pace. It caused me to shift my gait to a forefront strike and that got rid of my peroneal tendinitis. And I LOVE their trail runners. I haven’t looked back. Zero drop 4 lyfe!
Have you tried Altras? The ground feel is great and they really let your feet splay out naturally. They aren’t the prettiest, but they feel very natural and your feet will thank you!
Those new balances destroyed my feet. The worst plantar fasciitis pain just on a two mile run. Switch to ASICS nimbus and just ran 10 miles. No pain. At all.
@@hessunator no problem. Since Covid, I increased my weekly mileage from 30 miles to over 80 miles, haven't been healthier while saving thousands of dollars every year. It's really your running form that matters.
It looks like even though you have medium arches, you do pronate when you walk which is the flexing/falling inwards of the ankle and arches. This may be why the Hoka Clifton or Bondi were uncomfortable as the arch piece is suited for medium to high arches with little to no pronation axis. While the Brooks Ghost and New Balance have a more similar shape and lower arch style like the Nikes you have. Every brand is different and it’s super important to find what works for you! 500-600 miles is the max that most running shoes are good for otherwise they may start hurting your knees, feet, or back.
So I have really low arches (not flat footed, just low arches) and I do more hiking and walking, so I really like Altra's trail shoes because they're 0 plane with wide toe boxes and flexible soles. If you like being able to feel the ground, they're fantastic because they allow your foot to move like not wearing shoes at all but protect your foot from sharp rocks and such.
I really love the lack of cushion even though I need some arch support and love my sauconys… highly recommend if you want a balance of ground feel and support.
I'm from a family of runners and my mom has been a big time runner all her life. She switched to hokas a few years back snd wound up with a really horrible hip injury. All the cushion is not necessarily good for you and can wind up redistributing weight in an unnatural way. Just a warning.
