My main problems with manga collecting are having to worry about the manga condition getting worse like damage on the spine or yellowing (especially in humid places like where i live) and that buying a couple of volumes doesn't cost much but completing a full set of something can cost a whole lot if the series is long.
For sure. I can relate expecially with the yellowing. Ive been collecting for about 10 years and even if I take really good care of my volumes if I don't store them in a cabinet or something like that in a few months I can already notice the difference in color.
Happy that manga is sellable and holds value so selling to get the box makes sense. But its just a box so its whatever. If they just sold the box that would be sweet but thats never gonna happen haha. Storage for any kind of collection on earth is always a issue at times. BUT we have a type of collection we want to display so its always a thing we have to think of. I have spent so many days combined in my life messing with the storage part. Thats why I did the major upgrade last time. Bro I watched and sat thru 1 add for ya LOL
I hate when a serious I’m collecting becomes OOP and especially in the middle of collecting and prices spike up. That’s what happened when I was collecting some Shoujo Manga and it sucks
I'm more of a manga reader these days. I can read them to and from work, and don't have to wait years to catch up on anime. Only real investment I watch is Bleach TYBW because I've seen it all and have to close the chapter. Great video as usual. Always look forward to Friday to see your videos
I have about 5 series that I'm actively circulating. Some stuff drop, but get picked up again for sure, but put on a backlog reading list. Once you bulk buy ebay the recent volumes, you can just wait until each one comes out every six months or so.
yellowing is lowkey the least of ur worries. that will happen no matter what. unless u lock ur manga in a safe and never touch it again. but who wants to do that ? lol
for me I think its a pro that I forget what i've read. It makes rereading better for me, especially at those times when I don't got the extra money to spend on something new.
in fact I really only buy physical with the intention that I will reread it multiple times, otherwise i'll just stick to the shonen jump/viz app and "other" websites
I hate forgetting stuff for plenty of reasons. When I'm trying to compare/debate series, I like to remember all the things that had happen, or if I want to continue the series, I wouldn't want to reread all of it again.
I’m happy we got the CSM box set before the series was finished because now I know I need to hold out for a second one. I hope I can sell my singles but the second hand market isn’t so big here. I’ve been waiting to se if Dr. Stone gets one. I really want to read it but it would suck if I started collecting it only for a box set to be announced now that it’s finished. I’m mostly scared for something to happen to my collection, the physical being damaged and the digital one being taken away since I don’t “own” it.
Also. You know one thing I miss, going to a store, Amazon is so much cheeper than anything you can buy in store or mostly anywhere else online, it sucks.
Thanks for a very entertaining video as always! I get pretty irritated about all the American youtubers that say "don't pay full price for manga" 😂😁 That's not an option here in Sweden (if you don't buy used). All the stores usually take more than the listing price. A volume of Nagatoro is usually around 13 bucks, but bigger Kodansha volumes like Rent a Girlfriend, Living room Matsunaga-san and so on are usually around 15 bucks and sometimes 18-19. Thinner volumes from Seven Seas have gone up too. I haven't bought any volumes of Uzaki-chan (which I loved, at least the first 4-5 volumes) since vol 6, since they are around 16-18 bucks now. So yeah, I have to consider that they are imports from the States, but it's still hard to hear people say something that is for them a high price, is higher for us in Europe. It's hard to be a manga reader here 😅
@@Magg343 no specific for only manga that I know of, but some of the bigger stores I know of is Sci-Fi Bokhandeln, I think there's 4 stores around here in Sweden, the bigger cities. Other comic book stores are Comics Heaven, Staffars, Dolores and SerieCentrum to name a few. I bought some manga in SF Bokhandeln as a fun thing, that I wanted to buy in a physical store. But it's so much more expensive than online on amazon.seand such sadly. That sounds awesome, the same chain as in the UK? Where in Norway? If I visit my cousins I will try to go there if it's not to long from where they live.
Collecting A lot of ongoing works really sucks, I don't know if I'll have enough space for DanDaDan, Chainsaw Man, Blue Box, Persona 5, Kaiju No.8 AND nagatoro. What if one of them becomes a one piece and 10 years later I'm still spending on chainsawman of all things
Yellowing comes from moisture and/or sunlight. Yellowing will happen regardless over time. Be careful with those manga bags cause they can trap in the moisture and cause your manga to yellow even faster.
I never buy singles , i always go for boxsets or deluxe/special editions so i dont regreat later , if the series does noy have any i just read online and wait , i have buyers regret 😂
What dystopian era are we living in when you have to say reading a book "is like an app of your phone" 🤣 also that was a good shelf rant. My SO and I uh... have a plush problem that requires more shelves. 😬He doesn't put things on the floor because he's not a heathen, but he's adamant he can just keep stacking and I'm like bUy sHelVeS plEASE And hey! I have a bone to pick with Seven Seas! They stopped localizing World War Blue and to this day I would buy more. I think I was the only person buying all the volumes, though. 😭 They scheduled 9 volumes but never released the 9th, and the series went on longer than that in Japan as a web comic, I think. I was so antsy I messaged their customer service asking where 9 was and they politely told me it was discontinued (which I mean, 10/10 customer service, I didn't think they'd respond at all 😅). On that note, I guess my annoyance: things that would've probably been nice to buy but were never (fully) translated. I have my wallet ready for Neuro but it's not happening in the states, even though I think people really liked Assassination Classroom and it references Neuro a couple times (same author, and all).
Im planning on ordering on the 1st uzaki-chan wants to hang out volume's 8,9 ,edenzero volume 13 , bluelock volume 8 ,volume 3 of oshi no ko, let this grieving soul retire volume 6 .
@TheDarkSage you know it .Also, i can't believe there is only one more volume that is left to get released for uzaki-chan wants to hang out until it's over .

Kinokuniya has been good to me. They are Japanese bookstore with USA operations now. I’ve had one issue maybe over 15 years of using right stuf. But never too much. Target has been good surprisingly and Barnes and nobles or books a millions
Yep, I had to stop collecting. I just don't have the space. I had to focus on the manga I reallly like. I have to complete a few series I stopped collecting. A lot of my manga is in climate controlled storage unit. I only keep the series I've noty yet read on my shelves.
How is the quality of soul eater perfect? I avoided full metal edition because I heard of glue and flecking issues, plus the lifetime mousetrap of the pages. Should I avoid perfect edition as well?

@@TheDarkSage Ya, especially since I'm too young for a job at the moment
My one problem with manga is everything is in black and white that's it
It’s use of shading is something that makes it worth it and good art too
I've grown used to it quickly but when there are series colored online, like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure or Parasyte, I prefer it in that way.

I understand that. You thought about doing more chores or maybe some side hustles if you wanted the extra bread?
