I know what's coming for Genshin and ZZZ. I quitted Honkai 3rd after 18 months since release. The reason I quitted Honkai 3rd s because I barely progressed as F2P after missing Oath of Judah. Losing 99 gacha streak for character before pity and the release of Elemental Gate Benares burns me so hard. On top of forced PvP with Abyss and a really, Really, bad timezone. I never touch any miHoYo games anymore. Also I forgotten why did I play Honkai. I like they have a comic, but until I knew that comic existed, I have no idea about the lore. Especially after Yostar, Team MICA, NAT Games, Hypergryph, and Cygames - as bad as they are - woken me up that games shouldn't have been that stingy and still profits. They had my money, miHoYo didn't. Anecdotally, I don't have to scheming harebrained tactics to draw niche fandom in anime markets anymore.
this is literally the exact same problem i had with genshin T_T i would usually love a game with that much lore and an interconnected world but i cannot get past the way the dialogue is written . it's like they had a word count to meet . ad i really fucked with genshin's combat but sitting through those long ass cutscenes is something i don't want to do
@@ivoneo2806 if the cutscenes and dialogue were good i would nawt be yapping about the length . they're long because all the characters feel the need to repeat themselves over and over again, not just paimon. even when the character has no reason to lie or be shifty they never speak clearly or get to the point . in my opinion you can have good ideas and good lore but if the execution fails you have a flop story and since genshin delivers the bulk of its story in this 3D visual novel format where you go and talk to the characters, the writing had to be really polished to even justify not having a skip button (which other long cutscene games and visual novels have) ... but it's not. if genshin was a book no one would want to read to the end 😭

YEAH!! i didnt even mention it but we thought the same thing, i was totally thinking that this game was for people who wanted to see pretty characters and have an aesthetically pleasing game to look at.
tbh i think this is a media literacy thing. ZZZ is more subtle with how they introduce information in that they show how things work instead of telling you outright. As an example in the introduction the setting and premise of the story is immediately introduced as two factions (red fang and cunning hares) having a dispute, which public safety interrupts by shooting at both parties, showing that both the CH and RFG are against the PSC. The Hollows are established as a threat for all factions when both RFG and CH fall into one and cannot find their way out. We watch the RFG members turn into monsters, clearly showing why hollows are so scary. The mcs role is then shown- not told. The game introduces what their job do as a proxy by giving a play by play of how a standard commission works: use a computer to sync with a bangboo and lead clients out of the hollows. Through dialogue we learn also that the MCs are constantly wary of the PSC due to the illegality of the hollow raids that they play a key role in. It pretty much presents all you need to know without telling you with words, which has been one of my biggest issues with Genshin and HSR lmao, i DESPISE how those two deal with exposition and think ZZZ is a definite improvement. I am not someone who does much research outside of gameplay so this was what i took from the in-game story itself. Final Fantasy shares the same issues that i dont like about Genshin’s story delivery. Dialogue can be a good way of delivering exposition but the cost of that is impact. The clip you use to juxtapose the two i believe is confusing because it is using information you were supposed to parse from the inteoduction - the ‘association’ is the government and what the CH are doing (hollow raiding) is illegal. Im unsure if Undertale is really comparable in this aspect because it doesn’t have an ensemble cast like ZZZ. Also, Undertale’s plot doesn’t have much in the way of factions or political discourse like FF or ZZZ. It has an easier story to understand because the story is very simple. That is one of its biggest strengths - you don’t need to worry about exposition if there isn’t much information to exposit. The entire premise can be understood from the opening CGs alone, and ZZZ and FF are just not as condensed as UT. I think that it would have made more sense to compare ZZZ to another property with similar complexity, or at least one that has a similar setup. Something like Fallout, with warring factions in a post-apocalypse (sound familiar? That’s exactly what ZZZ is supposed to be). The goal of ZZZs story is not to be like Undertale (especially as your path cannot branch) so it would make sense to make comparisons that show the kind of story ZZZ wants to be.
Yeah tbh I think that the game is just very not my style at all. I don’t think it’s media literacy because I’m not saying it’s objectively bad but yeah, just not my style in comparison to other games that are frequently brought into the equation. I enjoyed reading your take! Ty for checking out the video.
when it comes to zzz ive been waiting for this game for like 2 years, ive prob played like 24 hours now 😭😭. the art is beautiful and very very very attractive. when it came to the story, its so close to my writing style 💀 which prob says alot about me but also it helped me understand the story quite quickly (i also use this skill to know family drama cause no one tells me anything ) and i gotta admit, like you said - there's not alot of stakes, for example when the hacker stole their account they just brushed it off and moved on to start a new account, they could have done way more with that and i actually was thinking that concept should come back somehow. (atleast i hope so). when the combat started i got kinda surprised that there isnt much skills?? like just one special skill for each character??? for example anby's only special thing is click basic 3 times and hold? is that it?? even at hard mode the combat is easy. which i guess thats what they wanted.. they said so in the live stream or something. what i liked the most is the small things tbh, like how belle's bed is messy and how wise's bed is all clean and tidy most of what i play is gacha games so my bar is ON THE FLOOR (theyre free and i cant buy games even if they are 1 dollar so thats why i play them the most) i kinda like the TV system, i enjoy playing it. but i dread it sometime cause it gets boring. and to think they "lowered" the amount of TVs you see is insane to me 😭 anyway with all that i still love the game and will continue to play, i hope they listen to criticism
I’ll be honest out of all the hoyo games my favorite in terms of story has been star rail. I was an avid genshin player prior and had briefly tried Honkai impact but it wasn’t rlly my thing. So, obviously I’d try ZZZ. I agree 100% that it has been boring so far. I love the comic book style but the text boxes have straight up novels in them. It’s like everything is written to meet some word count which makes everything feel dragged out. Also, if the story really is AI generated I feel like the complaint shouldn’t be that it’s not generated well but that it’s generated at all. Like cmon hoyo has all this money and can’t pay writers?
ZZZ is a tolerable and okay game for a gacha. This literally made me play Twewy for the first time since it reminds me of the aesthetic of that game which I have never played but had my eyes on. Story and gameplay wise it blows it out of the water. I explained it in the video, Phaethon is a term not a name. The way it’s displayed in the game makes you confused because the characters speak as if it’s another race 😭.
