- From our 2nd Season of Paramount's hit 80s TV series, "SOLID GOLD", enjoy our hosts, ANDY GIBB and MARILYN MCCOO, singing Kenny Rogers hit, "THROUGH THE YEARS”, arranged and produced by myself (Solid Gold's musical director and theme composer, Michael Miller - aka "Mickle"). Andy and Marilyn were introduced by the show’s resident comedian, Marty Cohen, for this segment that aired on February 21, 1982.

Beautiful. Andy was so handsome and talented. Its sad he couldnt handle fame and that depression and low self esteem would cause him to turn to alcohol and drugs which weakened his heart. He sang many duets with female artists. He will be forever young talented and beautiful. Rest in peace andy.

He will always be in my heart. And Marilyn just a sweet person. They both sang beautifully together. I miss him so.
That is one of my favorite Kenny Rogers-written and performed songs!!! It is really a nostalgic song, at least to me, and despite their youth at that time, Marilyn and Andy gave it that sound like that of old pros. They blended well and it was another that I had missed in February 1982 when it had first aired, so thank you for the opportunity to view this spectacular performance of a soft and sentimental song.
Younger people might recall that KitchenAid mixers used this song, I believe the Kenny Rogers version, for a popular long television commercial in late 1991. Some might have wondered if it were done just for the commercial, but I had known that it was a Kenny Rogers hit song from long before 1991. It is amazing how many songs from popular music have shown up in television commercials years after they were first released.
To keep with the amazing theme, I have to say that it is amazing the collection of "Solid Gold" video uploads that you have assembled together on TH-cam. Solid Gold(en) oldies from the vault of the Michael Miller Time Machine!!! It is really a cornucopia and an extravaganza wrapped together.

Tragic. Apparently he was in such terrible denial about his problem that his brother Barry I remember reading at one point tried some tough love with Andy, and stopped giving Andy songs that Barry wrote. So that is why and Andy started singing all these remakes of old songs.
No, the songs chosen for the duets on our show had nothing to do with anything other than what I and the singers decided the songs would be. As the Musical Director of Solid Gold (I’m Michael Miller), part of my role was to help choose the songs for the hosts (like Andy) to do as duets with their cohosts. Sometimes they were hits of the host, sometimes hits of the cohost, or sometimes just current hits of the day.
Her voice a little to high and strong for Andy's soft warmth touch. She has a little trouble bringing down her range to match.
