00:00 Climate Scientist Michael Mann Beats Deniers, Defamers in Court; Hopes to Empower Others to Speak Out
1:20 We speak with world-renowned climate scientist Michael Mann, who was just awarded more than $1 million in a defamation lawsuit against two right-wing critics who smeared his work connecting fossil fuels to rising global temperatures. He joins us to discuss the importance of resisting climate denialism through free scientific inquiry and expression. "We all pay the price when scientists don't feel empowered to speak out about the implications of their science," says Mann. Mann says he hopes his legal win will protect others who have been silenced by the threat of defamation so that "scientists will feel more comfortable in leaving the laboratory and speaking to the public and policymakers."
06:16 The Climate Election: Mark Hertsgaard on Why 2024 Must Focus More on Climate Crisis
We also speak with The Nation's environment correspondent Mark Hertsgaard, executive director of Covering Climate Now, about how journalists under attack by climate deniers must not let fear of retaliation stop them from covering the subject, especially during an election year. "It's not our job as journalists to censor ourselves because one party or one candidate decides that they're going to deny climate science. We owe it to the public to report that to the public without fear or favor," he says. Hertsgaard also discusses the role of climate policy in the 2024 election and the fifth anniversary of progressive lawmakers' first attempt to pass a Green New Deal.

It should actually be quite simple; if you lack the knowledge and comprehension regarding a topic then you either start doing your research untill you''re equipped to make a constructive contribution in solving the problem or you just let the people speak who actually do know what they are talking about, instead of bringing nothing but noise and error to the table, there is no moral high ground nor any selfindulgent forms of heroism to be found in prosecuting the acts of reasoning and obstructing progess in finding truth. Repeating rubbish as loud and proud as possible just because it makes you feel good isn''t activism, its sabotage and terrorism.

What about actual journalism? What was the evidence that proved that Mann didn't manipulate the data? Or did the judge just relied on the assessment of the university where Mann is working (conflict of interest?)?
Tree ring data is very suspicious. Not just Mann's assessment of it, but the whole field. I'll just quote one of the puoneers of that science Gordon Jacoby. Everyone else can make their own conclusions if they want to rely on such approach:
"We strive to develop and use the best data possible. The criteria are good common low and high-frequency variation, absence of evidence of disturbance (either observed at the site or in the data), and correspondence or correlation with local or regional temperature. If a chronology does not satisfy these criteria, we do not use it. The quality can be evaluated at various steps in the development process. As we are mission oriented, we do not waste time on further analyses if it is apparent that the resulting chronology would be of inferior quality.
If we get a good climatic story from a chronology, we write a paper using it. That is our funded mission. It does not make sense to expend efforts on marginal or poor data and it is a waste of funding agency and taxpayer dollars. The rejected data are set aside and not archived."

If you want to have fun with climate science, go and find the original 1901 paper by Nills Ekholm. This is the actual first paper where greenhouse effect is introduced through the unicorn of "mean altitude of the emission " the concept that is later used pervasively in the whoke field. Just read 1981 James Hansen Paper in Science, it is the same concept. But the conclusions from the same theory are totally different. It is quite fascinating. Try it

In 2019 Dr. Tim Ball won a lawsuit filed against him by M. Mann. As part of the judgement the court ordered Mann to pay Dr. Ball's legal expenses of over one million dollars. Mann did not pay (it was a court in British Columbia, Canada). Dr. Ball has since died, and Mann has, to the best of my knowledge, not repaid the expenses to Dr. Ball's estate. As part of the discovery process Mann had to drop his pants, show his data and statistical methods, both of which had been much criticized by many other climate scientists and professional statisticians. Mann refused. A quick internet search will turn up many articles surrounding this case.
Mann's hockey stick, even the "revised" hockey stick has been debunked many times over. He should use the million dollars he won in this case to finally repay the Ball expenses in the suit Dr. Ball won against Mann.

Arctic sea ice stopped melting away about ten years ago and has been increasing. It is about 5% below the 1981 to 2010 median. It is interesting how it stopped melting away when the seismic activity subsided. It was warm back in the mid 1900's amidst reports of melting Arctic sea ice but without accurate satellite measurement. The thermometers showed temperatures comparable or higher than recent decades. The seismic activity was also comparable and correlates with the gradual cooling from. 1940 to 1980 as the seismic activity subsided. But the warming in the mid-1900's was removed from the graphs by Mr. Mann and friends who said something about the time of day observation effect or rehogenization of the rural and urban temperatures. World renowned scientists know about such things.

    Do our thoughts influence nature?
    Indeed, our thoughts influence nature.
We live in a single global-integral system of nature, we influence it with our thoughts, and we receive feedback accordingly.
Similar to laws that operate on mechanical, electronic, electromagnetic and other material and biological scales, when we press, push or constrain something, we receive a response. Likewise, when we think positively or negatively about others, we accordingly receive a response.
The global-integral reality in which we live is a closed system, and we receive responses from it according to our attitudes to it.

Im not against climate change and don’t deny things are changing a bit but it may not be man made as much as scientists think. And, and we are being taxed and controlled by fear and attacked if we rise up at all over it. Climates change does good for some areas and bad for others but adapting is key and NOT taxing. In government usually if there is a problem there is a tax or a right given up!

If you followed the trial you would know that the only way Mann won this lawsuit is because the trial was held in Washington D.C., the most liberal jurisdiction in the country. In any other state in the country he loses this case hands down. In fact the D.C. jury awarded Mann only $1 from both of the defendants in compensation. That tells you right there that the jury didn't feel Mann was harmed at all by the comments and hence Mann should have lost the case.
The punitive damages of $10,000 for Simberg and $1,000,000 for Steyn will be appealed and will likely be thrown out. By law they cannot be greater than 10x the compensation award ($1) that Mann was given.
I mean c'mon a nobody blogger refers to him as the "Sandusky of climate change" and that is considered illegal!! Far worse is said every day all over the place.
Mann is a vindictive asshole who tries to suppress an voice of opposition to his research, which I might add is highly questionable.
Man made climate change is at best highly uncertain, at worst the biggest scientific fraud in history.
