Proper English, decent audio quality (pleasant sounding voice), good content, solid video editing. Overall a really good review, that could very well rival with reviews made by much bigger gaming channels. Keep it up
I almost never comment on TH-cam videos and I am used to reviews from Gamespot/IGN and I find a lot of times they tend to come with a bias slant. This review seemed very well edited, objective, fair and I thought the way you narrated it was also very professional. Ps. Not sure if that music was game music or something you added but it went great with it as well. Thanks for a fair review, keep it up :)
I like the way you give the cons to the game without trashing it. Some reviews make the cons so bad, that is sad to hear. Aside from those few cons, Berseria stands tall with other big boy titles from the series. Shall subscribe to you!
Great review, I actually enjoyed how you analyzed the game itself on all aspects and even better, you didn't feel the need to "score" it, that should be a norm with all reviews coming from all official sources. Back to Berseria, the only point I disagreed on was the music, I loved it. That said Zestiria had a quality soundtrack compared to most Tales titles, but that's mainly due to Go Shiina
Berseria was written with the general expectation that players had played Zestiria beforehand, as it is a distant prequel set roughly 1000 years prior. While not necessary to play Berseria, those who played Zestiria will likely appreciate it much more for the details like the origin of the Shepherd, Eizen's character as a whole, and even the dawn of the Flames of Purification. There is a ton connecting these two games and it seems as though you missed that in this otherwise solid review.
Thanks Donnie that's nice of you to say. I also watch acg, he's a funny guy. I hope you continue to keep a relationship to our growing channel in the future.
Good to hear Berseria is shaping up to be another great installment. Been playing through Zestiria for a bit so I am glad there is something to look forward to when I finish it.
Apart from some melodrama which I suppose is part of the JRPG cliché and the uninspired combat (the point here is clearly the story), this big (50 hours!) metaphor/commentary on the current war on terror that has you play as a terrorist was totally left field! This is no FF15 cooking omelettes and taking selfies, this is a game you want your son/daughter to play.
I gotta say that I agree that team mates AI is improved, you can let your team deal with easier encounters without your help, I've tried it and they do seem to dodge attacks quite well at time BUT other times and especially against harder hitting enemies they practically feed themself to the enemies and you end up in a situation where you either are the last character standing OR you spend like 5-6 life bottles, only to see your team mates running at their attacks again killing themself once again... So yeah its better than AI in Zestiria, but still not good enough... the strategy page options are way too scant.
hmmm this game is not less-open than Zestiria, both games have interconnected worlds with corridors but very wide corridors, some times giving the illusion of open world. For the first hours I got the impression that Bandai abandoned the large areas, but then I arrived to Aldina Plains, that field is huge. I think the main difference is that in Berseria the larger areas instead of being hubs are roads / dungeons, I'm ok with that because it makes the backtracking quicker.
I'm really torn right now, berseria is on sale for 70percent off, but i really wanted to play vesperia first... decisions decisions lol. I think ill wait for vesperia, everyone tells me it is the much better game, but i cant justify spending $80 on either of them when i have so many games still in the backlog(dragon quest 11, deus ex, prey)
The soul system honestly pisses me off. The battle system would be fine, if not as great as the one of the Xillia games, if it wouldnt reduce your combo to two or even one at times. It's honestly so annoying and boring without at least four souls, which is the case most of the time. I really hope the next Tales of game will pick up Xillia's battle system again, as it was the most flawless in the series imo. That you cant equip skills with FP like in other tales of games is very meh imo too. ToB is a step in the right direction again after Zestiria messed up as good as everything for me, but it's still far behind what Xillia was imo. That aside, great review, I love your voice :)
Soul system is fine, honestly you just have to calm down and wait for good opportunity and you will be practically swimming in souls... or something. The only thing that I dislike about the system is how easily you the small fuckup's start to snowball out of control, like how you dont pay attention and you get stunned that remove your soul which leads to you not being able to use your special ability anymore etc etc. But look for perfect opportunity to dodge the attack and you get a soul, cause a negative effect gives you soul (at least sometimes? Im honestly kinda unsure on this lol) also one of the easiest ways to get souls is to watch enemies weaknesses and hit them there... they are week to element? Use that element and if they are weak to physical use physical... its pretty simple system, allowing for combos that last for 100+ moves.
I know this is a couple yrs late but I have found that the games characters and story was inspired by berserk. Not sure if it started as a berserk game though.
I am really never sure about J-RPG's, while I care a lot about RPG elements like a good story, character creation, side characters, companions and so forth, I am a bit biased in the case of J-RPG's primarily because I just absolutely hate the art style of the characters, combat, the vast difference between characters and surroundings{Cartoony characters sort of realistic environments} and then there are generally a lot of numbers flashy colors and massive exclamation points all in all it just sort of ruins any immersion for me. Anyone who can suggest a really good J-RPG worth a try? I mean I am willing to try it but it'd take a lot. xD
I know I'm a bit late, but there are a few JRPGs that I really like and think more people should play. First of all, anything from the Dragon Quest franchise is going to be really great. It has a few tropes that you mention disliking, but the art style of characters, monsters, and backgrounds remain consistent and are solid, with the former two being designed by Akira Toriyama. Also, Fire Emblem: Awakening is perhaps my favorite game of all time, and I highly recommend it if you have a Nintendo 3DS. It's a strategy game that gives you a solid story and a wide cast of likeable characters, as well as very fun gameplay. However, there is a lot of RNG involved, making certain moments incredibly frustrating, especially with the classic permadeath system. Both are turn-based, so you wouldn't like either of them if you prefer faster paced games.
This is the first time I've watched one of your videos. I don't usually put much trust in other people's opinions about writing, but I want to give you a chance. Do you think this story and the character's dialogue are better than Zestiria? I played through the entirety of Zestiria. I found it to be an absolute mess with cringy dialogue. Is it the same with this game?
Weeaboo Name I enjoyed Berseria. However if you didn't like Zesteria I would not recommend buying this as they are fairly similar in how they deliver gameplay through the story narrative. However, Velvet is interesting and well developed. Of course her supporting cast often has what you called cringy dialogue...it runs in the franchise.
Weeaboo Name Im a good 17 hours into the game and can tell you that, at least imo, the writing is much better in this game as a whole. This is due to the much darker story and the morally flawed characters in the game. Characters in your party are willing to kill and torture others to achieve their goals vs the goody two shoes cast of zestiria.
Its definitely filled with cringy moments tbh... the way the game tries to convey emotion most of the time ends up being kinda forced, and often I literally just skipped some scenes that got too dramatic... dramatic in a campy way lol.. But those are only the "emotional" scenes or scenes that try to be cool or whatever... funny scenes on the otherhand genuinely made me laugh. We have a funny set of characters here, especially Magilou and her "sidekick" Bienfu (Im sure some people find them annoying but I loved them xD)... also Velvet is cute coo coo lol
I remember in Zestiria loving pretty much any time Edna spoke. Her sarcastic and rude dialogue helped me through the game. Without her, I couldn't have beaten it. I'm guessing Velvet is Berseria's Edna.
I played tales of zestiria and enjoyed it. even with the changes I think Id still enjoy it. that was me , logged into the wrong email , lol 2 emails, 2 likes, ;)
Being honest, it was the most boring battle system for me. Vesperia was the best to me. And the ending of this game was just absolutely garbage. This game hurt me. I really was excited and really wanted to like it..
I just started playing this and I dunno how I feel about it. If it were turned based I'd be much more into it. And I'm not particularly following the plot other than revenge on guy. I'm just hearing a bunch of people talk at each other about magical jargon like I'm supposed to be in on it. I also hate Velvet's outfit. They couldn't have her wear normal clothes? And I'm not the type that complains about female fantasy "armor" that shows all the skin. I just think it looks stupid. It was understandable being stuck in a hole for 3 years fighting demons but you'd think she would put on clothing that wasn't tatters once she got out. But mostly the combat system. It's not really doing it for me.
this game and zestiria are just a step backwards. xillia 2 was very good and now they just dropped the ball and trying to pick it up again. played the demo, didnt like the combat so not gonna buy it. camera too funky, 3 skills than u gotta wait or block, lvling gears stupid. tox 1 and 2 were so good now latest 2 tales games are crap :(
LK Snow I agree. The combat in X1 and 2 was fast paced and didn't feel clunky and restrained like Zestiria. You can only do 3 to 4 combos in Zestiria which is retarded -_-
Giovanni Aguilar Lets hope the next tales after Berseria will be better... it will be made for next gen consoles tho. Berseria and Zestiria are made for ps3 and ported to ps4.
You do realise all Tales games have a slow start combat-wise? You can't combo endlessly, max 3-5 artes. In that sense, Berseria isn't any different. I can understand if it isn't your cup of tea, but those arguments are sort of weak. The combat system is so good after you get further in, but yes, both Xillias have more fluid combat system than Zestiria and Berseria. Berseria at least so far, haven't gotten to postgame and unlocked the full potential of the combat system to properly compare Xillias and Berseria.
"Without too much backtracking"? Did you play the same game I did? They almost always disable bottle selections to prevent you from skipping massive map areas you already slogged through. I can think of at least 8 or 9 times the game had you slog through a tons of maps you already went through after you beat a boss/mission... all in the name of seeing a cutscene/skit during the backtracking or at the end of it before you reached the town. Really, this game has horrible backtracking. The areas were also not small, especially in the last 1/2 of the game. They are 6-7 joined maps filled with nothing but the same enemies, chests with nothing special in them, and other pointless stuff you should actually skip to save time. If you ask me, the game needed to cut these areas in half in the second part of the game. Just boring, mindless drivel after awhile. This combat system does not support 1000's of engagements. You master it way too quickly and then all you want to do is just skip enemies at the 40-hour mark. Tales of Berseria's saving grace is the amazing and wonderful story and characters. That is the only reason to play this game. But the bland environments, lack of good puzzles, back-tracking, and overly repetitive enemies and combat really affected my enjoyment after the first 20 hours. All I wanted to see were the skits and cutscenes after awhile, but I was growing ever more annoyed of the senseless padding the game employed, and I can't even think of a good justification for it as the game could have been long enough without it.
Proper English, decent audio quality (pleasant sounding voice), good content, solid video editing. Overall a really good review, that could very well rival with reviews made by much bigger gaming channels. Keep it up
Thanks - a lot of reviews to come :)
was thinking the same...
His recent and oldest videos are really good. I enjoy them. We don't talk about his "clickbait" era of videos though...
This is one of the best games of all time. A classic to be remembered forever.
Thumbs up this video to support our channel! :)
Thanks a lot! Hope you enjoy the channel ^_^
You have the perfect voice for reviewing
Thanks :-)
This is what an actual review needs to be.
Looking at every part of the game and giving it a detailed analasys.
Good Job.
I like the way you give the cons to the game without trashing it. Some reviews make the cons so bad, that is sad to hear. Aside from those few cons, Berseria stands tall with other big boy titles from the series. Shall subscribe to you!
Welcome to the channel!

Eizen, rokurou,magilou ... unforgettable characters,amazing game...
Great review man! I was debating to get it as it is currently on sale here in the UK.

I'm assuming he hasn't played Zestiria.
Behind ACG, you are my favorite reviewer. Simple and concise.
Thanks Donnie that's nice of you to say. I also watch acg, he's a funny guy. I hope you continue to keep a relationship to our growing channel in the future.
ACG needs to hurry his ass up and make a review on this game...fucking hell
Damn son, you've been busy! Been interested in this series, my fiancee is a long-time fan.
It's pretty good!
You're a dumb Peckerwood
Excellent reviews man, get back to it
Good to hear Berseria is shaping up to be another great installment. Been playing through Zestiria for a bit so I am glad there is something to look forward to when I finish it.
Totally!
The fact these are optional couch coop is super cool idea. I mean nobody talks about it
In fact, TOB and TOZ are very closely connected. Putting them together will reveal that the theme has been sublimated.
Man, I love your reviews, keep it coming
Wow. Simply a fantastic review.
Superb review, I got all the info I needed. Keep it up.
Just bought this game and can't wait to play it...thanks for the review bro
i really liked phantastia and xillia..i like the look of this one. thanks

Great review sir, you have earned a subscriber.
Great review man! I appreciate your clarity on how the combat system works.
You're welcome - thanks for watching!
very professional sounding and looking review. instant sub dude nice job.
Thanks - welcome to the channel buddy.

Do your stats (HP.. etc) increase when you level up?
Yes
very nice review :)

It's $15 on PS4 right now, in case you didn't get around to it.
I played tales of zestiria and enjoyed it. even with the changes I think Id still enjoy it.

Did you mix up the parts about the gear maybe?
your voice makes me happy
^_^
haha, I caught so many Berserk references in your short review. I'm probably gonna try this just to see if the game has any more.
As you praised the voice acting I wonder what language did you choose ? English or Japanese ?
kamiced does it matter?
They are both amazing so i doesn't matter
Berseria should have more parts like zestiria
Thanks for posting review
You got it!
Would u recommend tales of zestria?
Yo I heard the bones of this game started as a berserk RPG. Anyone know?
I know this is a couple yrs late but I have found that the games characters and story was inspired by berserk. Not sure if it started as a berserk game though.

Play Persona 5 and the persona games I recommend them
Subbed as well

Yes the world is shared with Zesteria, Midgand , but a different time
Being honest, it was the most boring battle system for me. Vesperia was the best to me.
And the ending of this game was just absolutely garbage.
This game hurt me. I really was excited and really wanted to like it..
thanks for this comment, i cant stand bad endings so i think ill skip

This game or nier
I know this is old lol but Nier
You are not TonE Loc.

LK Snow This is hands down the best Tales of game ever made. You obviously never played it 😂
LK Snow i play it in 4k on pc. It is a very beautiful game.
The combat doesn't look challenging.
It's a little easier, yeah. But still fun.
