Hi Karina, I have just made my very first traditional V-neckband on a knit T-shirt following your excellent instructions and am thrilled with the results. Thanks so much❤
Karina, you are becoming my best friend! Thank you for these very helpful videos. You are actually a scientist. You make all this understandable! I wish I could have found this video a couple years ago when I was trying to make a V-neck knit maternity top for my daughter. Ugh! I could NOT understand the directions, but you have addressed all the elements here. I see that transferring dots may not always be as accurate as measuring, and WHY...which is also WHY I appreciate you so much! Thanks again, keep these coming, please!
Karina, I have been sewing for at least 50 years and have always appreciated the value of hand basting. You always teach me something new and you give us confidence to tackle any project. I just recently thrifted a cashmere sweater with a turtle neck too tight to go over the head. I'm thinking it happened the first time they washed it. So I made it into a V neck following your instructions. Thank you so much!
Your demonstrations are really helpful, well done. Also, I hear the bird sounds in the background and it makes me feel our planet it healthy in your area, comforting.
Thank you! Watched this video last week, and tried it on two garments and got beautiful results, third and second time lucky respectively 🙂. Hand-basting is definitely the way to go. I no longer dread v-neck knit necklines. Best wishes.

Before I start learning to sew, I have been watching your videos! I LOVE the crossover neckband. I think it would be better for me to start this way. You just go beyond showing how to do all these things. Im a person that is visual. There is no way I could follow reading those instructions and making this. Thank you for all that you teach! You are AMAZING! Thank you!!!!
Its always good to see how another person sews something. I've been making V-necks for years and you've got me thinking about it differently now. FYI- when the curl on ITY knits bothers me, I use spray starch. The starch lets it still stretch to fit but it doesn't roll so much.

The V is my favourite neckline to wear and the Love Notions LTD is the unicorn summer top for my busty pear shape. Once you see how nice it is to sew without pins in those areas, you’ll enjoy the minute it takes to baste... and also, seam ripping time is reduced so much :)

I love watching your videos, thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge.
Wonderful tutorial Karina, thank you. Do you have a link to part 3 of this series? I'd like to know how to calculate the length of a crossover neckband.

No. this video is all about knit sewing and cutting knit fabric on the bias is unnecessary... it's actually worse because you need the lycra content going horizontal for it to have recovery. Bias cutting is only for woven fabric.

I’m going to try ironing it again, after I rip it out, but I was wondering if it’d be a good idea to add a narrow bit of stretch interfacing to the edges to keep it flat. Or will the seam allowance get too thick?
I rarely use the original length of the pattern piece in a pattern. The pattern maker can’t know our knit fabric choice and it does make a difference. I calculate length based on what knit it is.
I have a question about the measurements you’re using. In the pencil skirt tutorial, you use your waist measurement and length but not hip. In this video you’ve clearly curved out for your hip. When I made mine I curved out at the hip, but I have a bunch of vertical gathers under my ass. I’ve taken it in and they’re still there. What am I doing wrong? Please help! One great tip to avoid those curling raw edges : spay starch your fabric and the curling is gone. The starch will disappear all by itself through handling, and if not, a bit of water will do the trick...
No. For stabilising shoulders on knits, I use non stretch interfacing. The goal is to eliminate the stretch from the shoulders and stretch interfacing won’t achieve that.
