Compliance | A Doctor Who short film

  • All is not what it seems in this bleak, brutalist Dalek city...
    Here it is (in 4K too!) Perhaps one of the weirdest things I've ever made, Compliance is the product of my wildest dreams mixed with my love of Daleks. Enjoy!
    All visuals and music created by me!
    This production is completely fan-made and created under fair-use. The video is in no way associated with the BBC. Doctor Who, the Daleks and all associated images are owned by BBC Studios etc.

    Infiltration of the Daleks S2 is probably still on its way.

    I do think this is something that the new daleks have lost; they used to feel as though they had a society, even one very restrictive and controlled. There was something living inside that armoured shell that wanted more than just to kill, they had art and gardens and hobbies. Now they just feel like killing machines that have no other purpose, and would have no reason to exist once they've killed every other creature in the Universe.

    I LOVED this. When people ask me why the Daleks are my favorite villains in Doctor Who, I think I should show them this. There is something so alien about a Dalek's form that you rely entirely on certain restricted movements, and shot composition to tell their inner thoughts. It is an artist's dream, and you have realized their potential to the fullest.

    i/ This really brings home the simple, elegant genius of 1st Doctor era Dalek Design. So beautiful, so mid-century. Davros' panzer-grey 'Genesis' Daleks are the only other incarnation to become as iconic.
    ii/ The Barbican Centre in London makes a lot more sense now we know it was built by Daleks in the 2nd Dynasty Skaro Modernist Style. Certainly the Barbican is no space for Humans.

    This is utterly remarkable. The first time in a long time I've seen something and been genuinely entranced by something. It is so unique in style, enticingly beautiful, utterly classic, deeply engaging in story, and not a single word of dialogue was used. This is the first time in 60 years that I've been completely emotionally connected to a dalek, and it was done in 5 minutes of homemade rendering. Whoever did this should have their talents in film and television; if not in Doctor Who a huge shame, if not in public a huge shame. Someone pls send this to RTD and entrance him. When you set aside the fascism, the Daleks become a metaphor for modernity, alienation under capitalism. Gorgeously retro and beautifully directed. It has a genuinely offsetting air from the start and never breaks the tension, asking some wonderfully interesting existential questions about the Daleks, and prodding at the idea of what goes on in a Dalek's mind.
    It also reminds me of the early comics when the Daleks were less almighty Uber killing machines and these strange and slightly camp aliens, almost making them understandable to an extent!

      @@3ddoctorwho I'm not sure if this is what you intended, but to me it makes me feel as if this is the earliest days of the Daleks, and the architecture provokes this feeling that it once belonged to the humanoid versions of the Kaleds, but as they mutated this is simply the forgotten remnants of that humanoid era, now occupied by these Dalek tanks. To me I love how someone has finaly linked that there is something living in these Daleks, and it almost ghostly how although bo longer human, they still move through the old architecture belonging to their human ancestors, like ghosts

    • @3ddoctorwho
      @3ddoctorwho  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@DalekCaanOfSkaro what a beautiful interpretation!! when making it i did think along those lines, in that the daleks seem to be following a stream of commands without any sense of why or what for, as if they’re ghosts of a distant and forgotten past.

      @@DalekCaanOfSkaro Nicely said, my personal favourite area was the tree with the rock garden, It's quite poetic, that area is so human. But the Daleks can never touch it, they can merely observe it, the work of their distant ancestors.
