This feels like a late 1920s film, like *Metropolis* but with more propaganda feel. And that part after 3:30 with the pipe? Ironically felt like the Daleks' own time corridor!
    Great work!

Like a Dalek short made by Georges Méliès!
It also reminds me of the third segment, "Cannon Fodder", from the anime film, "Memories" by Katushiro Otomo. In that short, we find ourselves in a walled city festooned with cannons everywhere, from small mortars up to a gigantic city-spanning Howitzer, which is apparently fired intermittently by an imperious and swaggering overweight officer. All the city's enterprise is spent in servicing these cannons, producing ammunition, etc., to the point of sickening its workers and citizens. When the grand cannon is fired to great fanfare, announcements are made that they have grievously damaged the target, an enemy city that is supposedly mobile. But what scenes we see of the outside of the cannon city show a barren desert, pockmarked with craters of every size (presumably created by past cannon shell impacts), but no sign of any enemy anywhere -- leading the viewer to question whether there is even an enemy at all.
Much like here -- are there even still any actual Thals left? But firing off their bombs is the only thing that gives Daleks purpose, much like the inhabitants of Otomo's cannon city. As Christopher Eccleston observed to the captured and injured Dalek, "If you can't kill, what's the point of you?"

This reminds me of german expressive films from the 1920s. The never ending procession similar to the WW2 Nazi threat slowly eating away at any country like locusts devouring fresh crops of wheat.
Excellent work. Sad while strangley magical at the same time.

Did I have any idea of what was happening? No.
Did I enjoy the hell out of it though? Absolutely.

While I do enjoy The Marvellous Adventures of Doctor Who and Infiltration of the Daleks,I really have to give this appreciation for how utterly DIFFERENT it is compared to everything else; should you make more experimental shorts like this one,it would be a great thrill to watch :)
(And I love how it's all B&W plus high-contrast red. Not to mention the cinematography- my favorite shot is at 1:27 ,with all Daleks creating the illusion of a spiral)

With Infiltration being sooo cinematic in a modern way, this is soooooo cinematic in a classic way, it's so different! Really shows your range, the choice of black and white with minimal colour was a perfect choice! You really made the Daleks feel like they were a 1930s horror icon like Metropolis or Nosferatu or Dr Calligory etc. Love how some sets looked like 40s/50s pop sci-fi models! And don't know if it was intentional but the final shot (which was so impactful) reminded me of citzen kane's final shot with rosebud, just for such an ambiguous narrative scene in a film that leans of it's visuals, it really made me understand what the Daleks were doing the whole time. Not like a twist but a realisation.
Overall, loved it! The music was perfect, really captured the era and set the tone laid by your amazing aesthetic

I keep coming back to this masterpiece. It scratches the same part of my fandom brain as things like TV21, and the Dalek Annuals. It feels so 60s dalekmania, and yet so new it's amazing. I demand more 😤😁😃

Never in my entire life have I ever, ever seen anything more beautiful and haunting than this. It captures everything about a 20th century silent film perfectly, from the music to the cinematic movements of every Dalek war machine captured together with the scenery shots as well.
You have outdone and outperformed yourself in this short, I absolutely cannot wait for more of your content in the coming future.

wow, just wow! Love the cinematography and the style really reminds me of Silent Films such as Metropolis. I love how the daleks are made to look like models. My only criticism is that there seems to be some render glitches on the first shot with the daleks moving, apart from that its utter perfection.

Impressive, it's so...stylistic, it looks like it's all models, and it's got a real sort of movement to everything it's very styled, very decisive. There's a dance, and the humour is unexpected and wonderful.

  • @GeorgeCMusic

I cannot stop watching this. It's mesmerising. I love how the echoing piano in the bass register sounds like the Dalek "heartbeats" sound effect, and the camera spinning as it descends down the spiral at about a minute and a half in. I love this video, and it's made me realise how much I need to up my game with my visuals!

  • @edwardreed67
    @edwardreed67 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

So so surreal, so beautiful, yet so poignant, so tragic at the same time. This really captures everything terrifying and awesome about the Daleks, with the distinct 1960s aesthetic being perfectly captured.

Superb! I honestly think that if you went back 120 years and screened this with the name 'George Melies' at the end, people would get it and think it as actual early cinema, rather than something from the 21st century...

On a sidenote, those dalek corridors always seem wide enough for only one dalek at a time. What would they do if two needed to go in opposite directions? Or are cities designed so that there are separate corridors for going back and forth? Truly groundbreaking guestions, I know.
