Well done, I had the same problem 10 years ago in Greece, after 2 phone calls to Mastervolt, 1 to England and one to the charger Boss in Holland, i carried my charger to England and sent it to the Mastervolt, after having paid in advance for a fixed price repair. There was no contact so after about 4 weeks I rang and said, oh sorry your charger is more than 5 years old! They knew this because i sent the serial number to them before paying for the reapir .We are scrapping the charger I was told. No you are not i said, it's my property and cost a shedload of money. I had to threaten legal action to have the charger returned. Eventually my payment was also refunded. It's good to know current management at Mastervolt are much more customer focused. Happy Cruising
Well we had great service from Aquafax and Fischer Panda.. we’d already sent the charger to Aquafax when FP came back with a cheaper ‘fixed price’ fix. I questioned Aquafax about this and although they didn’t match the ‘fixed’ price, they did lower it.
I've been in the pro audio industry for years and when a component fails and I send it back they usually send a brand-new one back. The reason they do that is for studying as to why it failed. So good on ya good stuff.
I was a bit surprised Jerry.. thought they might make more of a thing out of it.. but no, a brand new unit and no quibbles! I like that sort of customer service ;)
@@MotherShipAdrift one more thing that I've found is the two red colored switches at the battery bank on most Amel boats may become corroded internally and make the charger work harder do to lack of capacitance. Maybe something to look into.
Another great video guys. We are almost ready to purchase our 1994 SM. Needs so much work, probably the worst SM on the market, but the only one we can afford! Good job we are used to boat work! As for chargers I love our Victron Energy 12/120/300 for €1500 was good value and works great. 3kw inverter! 120 amp charger.
good afternoon I am from Brazil, I received this device in payment with all cables never used because I do not have this boat and the model, mastervolts Chargemaster 24 / 100-3 if anyone has an interest in buying it will make a great price for sale
In your video you mention, “We have the battery's charged 100% using the engine.” Yet only small distances are done on the engine. A charging system has 3 to 4 different stages, the last one takes HOURES. So to charge a battery 100% you have to use the engine half a day or more. That is possible but not good, en is where sun and wind come in. Battery's that are not charged 100 % start sulphating, thus destroying the battery's. Get a lot of solar and maybe wind ( I winter in the med on board at anchor since 20 years and have in winter TWO wind generators. ) Good luck ! Woody learning fast.
Thanks for the comment Abadan.. yes we’re looking forward to getting our solar installed.. I’m just reinforcing the solar arch at the moment and hopefully have the panels on in the next few weeks.. then with new batteries I’m hoping our charging problems will be a thing of the past!
The engine and the generator are excellent for bulk loading. A lot in a short time. The other loading processes to obtain fully loaded battery´s can best be done by sun, wind or a land line. In winter at anchor, sun alone is not sufficient here in the Med, surrounding hills, low sun, clouds and very few hours of daylight. Wind can be a big help, especially where you guys are going. Do not make the mistake to put a windgen near the solar panels. It will do more harm by shading than good. I have a big second gen on the front of the boat. Stowe away in minutes. Windgen nr 1 ( a smaller one ) is on top of the second mast. Looks a bit special, is extremely efficient. @@MotherShipAdrift
I have found 3 mastervolt charges that were thrown away and bought one at a boaters Fleemarket for $10 . That didn't work. I've never been able to get any of them working. Seems strange that so many of one brand of very expensive changers would just be tossed in the garbage
Should have told you when we met in Santa Ponsa. I started off life as an industrial/commercial electrician and then moved onto electrical diagnostics on jet engine control and measurement systems. 👀😩
I’ve heard that the Mastervolt chargers are a bit unreliable compared to the Victron ones but you certainly can’t complain about gettting a new one for $600. I hope it lasts another 20 years.

Hi Guys. It looks like they swapped your unit for another repaired one and did the same with yours, repair it and send it on to the next customer. Well Done. Fair Winds and Smooth Seas. David Down Under.
We thought it could be a reconditioned unit, but even if it was, it was in excellent condition, very well packed and had new manual, mounting bracket and battery temp gauge.. so very happy with it.
We have them on the Bimini, and as they follow the curvature of the bimini and can't reposition them when they are not in the sun we thought it best to put them in parallel. We hooked them up to a Victron Energy MPPT 150/60. As we have not left the dock yet and are still up north in The Netherlands we don't have usefull solar production data to share. So would love to know if you guys manage with no to little use of the generator.CiaooSailing Soualiga

This is interesting, there's an electrician working on my parents boat, he's a dealer for victron. so i was keen to see what mastervolt had to offer to just to compare, so do people reccomend victron or mastervolt?
Well we have both onboard, Mastervolt battery charger and Victron solar controller, batteries and Inverter. Both are reputable makes and we’ve had good customer service from both companies.. so it’s hard to recommend one above the other!

Not sure you could have done much with it Stuart.. even the dealer had to send it back to get it looked at.

Nice work! Good choice in solar, we also got three 245 panasonics. would love to see a video about them and how you guys manage with them. cheers.
Currently looking into putting three panels in parallel :/ but we’ll definitely do a video of the install further down the line.
