The one thing that BEVs has proven is BEV drivetrains have many advantages and we don't need a conventional drivetrain anymore used in a more complex parallel hybrid used this car. Nice try Kia but lets hope it uses a serial hybrid like in the, Nissan Note E-power or Chevy Volt or even the BMW I3 REX, in its next design of a hybrid.
Seen one today in black during a storm, it was actually really nice. And looked roomy since the guy was as tall as me who got in at the store (6'5). Really Impressive KIA (:
I got as a rental and I will tell very impressed. Didn’t miss the Cvt drowning and I’m not the slowest driver and still got 47 MPG a winner in my book. Interested to see what happens with Kia in the next coming years.
My sister has one of these and I think it was her smartest decision. It's sad when the luxury brands don't have some of the items you would expect while the economy brands have those features. A couple of cars that I'm considering are the Toyota Camry Hybrid and this. While I like the dual-clutch I wish the Niro had more power. The Camry is rated 50 MPG yet has 60 more horsepower. I can accept a 50% slower zero to 60 when I'm getting twice the fuel economy.
Into the fourth fillup on my Niro LX and I am getting over 52MPG average. That's driving about half the time with A/C on, and not driving like eco-granny (like some Prius drivers).
Iam Ian nice. I didn't particularly like Kia until this one. I am borderline hippy, so that 52 mpg on the exact one I'd shoot for is pretty damn near perfect without having to go for the goobermobile Prius.
squish- my latest fillup I got 56.88MPG from my gallons/mileage calc. The car dash said 58.xMPG. That is without really trying too hard, and running A/C most of time. Of course I don't drive like the (typical) idiot, ie. I take my foot off throttle when I see brake lights ahead- which charges the battery. Seeing the results of ones driving style immediately on the dash in several available formats makes one a smoother, safer driver.
Iam Ian I drive a Chevy Volt which has been our "family car" over the Sorento my wife has. We both have grown accustomed to this type of driving since getting it over a year ago. Got it with a lifetime mpg of 37 and it is now at 55 considering we do almost all driving on electric.
I like the look of the Niro better than its corporate cousin the Ioniq. But the Ioniq gets significantly better MPG and appears to have similar passenger and cargo capacity (it may actually have a little more cargo capacity) at a slightly lower price. Either way, both are decently priced hybrids.
Damn, what happened to KIA's style.. for a while there, they where putting out some sleek and stylish autos.. But they seem to have decided to go back to a more generic bug eyed look for some odd reason.
Finding Nero - LOL! We tested an LX and it did look and drive nicer than a Prius - but only in sport mode. IDK. I wanted to like it for its mpgs, but it just felt cheap and Kia's sales people didn't help.
....If we were paying over $4 a gallon for gas it would be a hit.... Well we are again. And yes there is waitlist of weeks to months to buy one right now.
this is a nice looking hybrid and of course u halfta spend more 2 get the good looking model but, with all that show... THERE IS NO "GO"... I know it's an ECONO-BOX but wouldn't it be nice if they built hybrids that had a lil more GO? and i'm not talkin' P1 or 916
Something KIA could have easily done to make this EV car a lot more attractive. ■ Make the look abit nicer to look at, abit like Kona or Sportage. At the moment its ugly and bland. ■ More versatile colour and even two tone colour would have made this bland car an uplift. ■ Cut constant annoying noises when starting the car, better sound system, better sat nav, etc. Please leave a comment.
Never let John Davis go. Every time I hear his voice, it brings back my childhood watching this on PBS.
Yes he may be getting older, but John is still a great host and narrator for these road tests
me as well when he or I had hair
Me Too 🤘🏽😄
Car reviewer of 2 generations
I know I am pretty off topic but does anybody know a good site to watch new series online?
A hybrid with no CVT and an automatic instead! I love it! Good job Kia!
Benjamin Burkhardt SUV for first
Benjamin Burkhardt Kia/Hyundai's other hyrbid cars also use more traditional transmissions, The Optima and Sonata.

From a styling perspective, it could seem that Kia's Niro has the 2018 MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 in its crosshairs.
We have a 19 touring and love it . It's really well built comfortable and just handy .
Right now I get 48 mpgs in my touring. The best I got has been 49.2 mpgs.
Lucy Alexander close to 50 so

no AWD!?
so why they call it cross over.
awd must be optional
Did you turn on sport mode for the 0-60 or leave it in Eco mode? Would have been good to call it out.
Need to review’23 version,
What's best? The Kia Niro or the Ford C-Max?
Hi could I ask you a question would you ever test the ride quality by driving over speed bumps at 25 mph.
I like the look of the Niro better than its corporate cousin the Ioniq. But the Ioniq gets significantly better MPG and appears to have similar passenger and cargo capacity (it may actually have a little more cargo capacity) at a slightly lower price. Either way, both are decently priced hybrids.

bliglum you go into a Kia dealership and they want 40k for a Cadenza, and you see this on the lot..... just leave lol
Can you name the truck with front-wheel drive, smells like a steak (with optional leather), & seats only 5?!!!!!
Honda ridgelinnnne.. honda ridgelinne.
That went in the extreme opposite direction of the Prius and made it look like a boring 07 Rio.
Needs to be bagged, and with a turbo, love the car
Whhhoooaa... Starting at 0:39 I thought I was tripping...
William Rutkowski haha me to! :p
Why do these reviews sound like eighties infomercials
Brenden Pragasam i love it haha
If they had slapped on some optima headlights instead of these stereotypical angry CUV lights this car would look so much better.

Roof rails look pointless
Video shows only 36mpg....kia/hyundai is well known for getting less mpg than EPA. Prius is know to surpass EPA rating.

Boring exterior...cheap interior.
Your face is very boring.
