I just got a 2017 2 weeks ago. Man, I honestly wasn't that excited when I 1st picked it out. I just needed a newer car. The deal I got on it was hard to pass up.. within the 1st 15 minutes of driving it home I was in love! Really nice ride. Plus, with me driving 500 miles to and from Georgia to see my kids at least twice a month, I cant complain about the mileage!
I bought a 2017 LX new, one reason was because it was less or no more than cars I was comparing it to. Way less than conventional Rav4, less than Mazda3, about the same as Honda HRV, except I got the Autonomous Brakng system which the others didn't have. Same or less than all but the basic Civic. The ride is nicer. Anyone who drives long distances, I don't know why they wouldn't have a hybrid. I've logged my MPG on Fuelly since new, and I have lifetime 52.4 MPG. All you have to do is not drive like an idiot.
@@robertmilanese1523 thats insane man! Are you worried about the battery dying? Cause its not cheap to replace. I have never had a hybrid so thats my main concern
@@Rice2G I haven't given the battery a single thought after I purchased the car. And while the battery is more expensive than a normal car battery.. it isn't that crazy of a price either. If I remember correctly it was somewhere around $400-$600. But I could be wrong on that.
I've got 175000 miles on my FE in just 24 months. No real issues. In fact, except for oil, filters, windshields and one set of tires at 94K, everything is original. I love this car. Best range so far has been 670 miles on one tank.
So many people want AWD. Front wheel drive with good tires works just fine for most snowy conditions. I wonder how many millions of gallons of gas each year are wasted because people insist on AWD for those few days out of the year when it's really bad. I've owned an AWD vehicle for 13 years, and I am going back to FWD on my next car.
AWD is nothing but marketing. It drives me nuts that car dealers won't even stock FWD versions of crossovers near me. If you're worried about snow, put on snow tires!
Because on those few days with snow when roads are not cleaned properly and you stuck on a little uphill or on the side of the road and you try to dig out the car because of small clearance, can be so stressful that don't want have them again.
So would swapping out the tires for the size used on the lower trims significantly increase mpg for the touring? Would that significantly diminished the driving experience?
Would like to have seen Roman press Orth Hedrick a little harder on towing capability. In some countries the Niro has 1300kg (2860lb) towing capacity with the optional tow package. Why not North America? Also, in the EU they get LKAS but not North America. Why?
That's normally my thinking too, but in this case the engine and elec.motor have already been out in other cars 2-3 years, and it is warrantied for 100k miles. I don't think I'll wait for the price or interest rates to go up before buying.
I'm not familiar with footbrakes (been using handbrakes all my life); does it end up taking up your leg space? is it convenient to use at a stop-light?
The seats are very comfortable and if you go on a long run and drive it correctly it will give you a total mpg of 65.8 and if you are using around town/city I managed a 85.5 mpg which is brilliant and it’s the best car I have ever had
2 topics that I've not heard much or anything about, but since I live in the NW-US, (don't misunderstand, the reviews I have been able to find are insightful and really help, but do you have a line on these area of these features: 1- does KIA have an AWD/4WD in the works? (I know the fuel economy is a factor.) 2- When it's really cold out and there's 10 inches of snow covering the car, is there or will be a KIA remote start to warm up my garage vehicle. 2a- or is that going to be a 3rd party option, perhaps? Thanks
It's a shame you don't ask hard questions like why automatic breaking is an option and not standard. And why it's not available at all on the base trim.
Great review BUT for snow country people, I think Kia missed the boat. I have an AWD Sportage that is a great snow vehicle among other things that are mostly all good. For me the Niro is not a replacement for my Sportage.
wow cooled seats in taht class of car ! I bought a 2012 little RIO and it had a heated steering wheel which you cant order on any VW or AUDI at that time ;-)
Kia Niro battery pack is not the same as in Kia Soul, as they are produced by different manufacturers. The Kia NA Product Planner is just a top of the line dealer, that doesn't know much about the car, but has his well practiced lines to get you buy one
Hah, ''fuel economy'' is just an easy answer to provide. Kia doesn't want people skipping Sportages and Rondos. They could've made the AWD Niro at the same price as the entry level Sportage.

How has it been???
@@Rice2G it's been great! I regularly have right at 545 miles to the tank!

ha, I can routinely get 600+ per tank, but I never let it get that low. 670 miles per tank is phenomenal.. as is your total miles.
How is it now? I need a hybrid suv and the Rav 4s are extremely marked up. Is the suspension alright too?
How's it holding up?
Props for the no-nonsense shifter.
Looks like a winner for Kia.
Yeah... look to be a good seller. But personally... exterior design kind of look old already. Oh well.
yawn. Haters gotta hate.

They only seem to stock base models with FWD. Very rare to find a higher trim with FWD in the northeast.
I agree AWD at Least for some states is overrated, I work in car sales and run into that problem all the time.

Seems like a steal, I'd get one. Great interior, great mileage, extremely reasonable price.

I bought one a month ago, & really like it......
duvey851 I'm contemplating buying one... I'm just worried it looks more like a car than an suv
How are the seats over long trips? I'm looking at a used 2018.
@@BigFrogs4x4 Did you get one? Im looking at a 2018 too
@@Rice2G yes. A 2017 touring. Right now I'm looking for 16" rims for highway long trip use since it will help with mpg. Then use other set for winter.
that guy keeps on saying midsize but those back seats definitely did not look mid size to me. Looks way nicer than a prius though.
Bought the 2020 model, what a great car !

I like what this vehicle offers but I would wait for the 2nd year. I never buy the first year.
very smart... sometimes even 3rd year

Rickoh75 ... its not meant to be a replacement for a 4wd vehicle.
Can be charge the batteries as a plug in?
So, can it fit the turbo from the Turbo soul, 🤔 cuz I have plans,.....big plans

As Lisa Douglas of Green Acres calls it... the pernandle.
