    As a proud English Woman I found your praise for my beautiful home such a treat and it reminded me once again that I have such a rich history that in everyday life, I often forget 😉 As an avid crocheter myself I'm very proud of our many yarn shops up and down the British Isles. If you ever get the chance to visit us again, stop off in Scotland and Wales as you'll find some fantastic yarn shops there in their abundance.

    We moved to the northwest of England just over a year ago from South Africa and the availability of such a variety of yarns at good prices. We're also astounded at the narrow roads! My nerves are always on edge when driving 😅. England is beautiful and we're happy to call it home now.

      @@EliseRoseCrochet ahaha 🤣! My local yarn shop - Needlecraft in Hemel Hempstead (you should 100% visit when you next come to England, it’s about 30 mins from London) is about 5 minutes walk from my house and my legs sometimes just take me there, unconsciously. My wallet then appears to be empty….. I know how you feel 😂😂❤️🧶👍

    Thank you for taking us along with you Elise! That yarn shop looked so cute! Several of my fave YTers live in England, including the Stitch Sisters. The Beatrix Potter display was beautiful and isn't it cool to see things she did with her own hands? At the museum center here in Cincinnati they had a show on Leonardo Da Vinci and there were some of his actual journals on display. I do hope to get to England one of these days! Thanks again! :)

      They have a Beatrix Potter display in a small town called Long Melford, Suffolk, as well, she often used to stay there when she lived and apparently wrote some of her books there basing the characters on animals seen at Melford Hall. She was a cousin to the owner at the time, it is now maintained by the National Trust and if you enjoy her works well worth visiting. (Long Melford is also the village where a number of different television shows have been filmed/set, including Lovejoy which I believe was screened in the US).

      Dear Chronic Stitcher. They needn't be so snobbish because crochet especially Irish and Vential crochet produces a,delicate Victorian fabric not possible with knitting. In fact knitting to me might be therapeutic but is boring and repetitious and for me I end up not even wanting to finish the project. I always use yarn which looks like thread. As a rule, for my work yarn is too bulky to produce lace

    I often hear similar comments about our lovely narrow roads here in Ireland from tourists visiting from the US (usually they don't seem to find them quaint but often express ideas on how easy it would be to simply take farm land from either side and make them much wider, I much prefer your views on the lovely narrow roads - and I grew up in New Zealand where the roads were also considerably wider than they are in the UK and Ireland). I normally find it best to remind them that 1000 -1500 years ago horses and coaches weren't exactly a common sight and the modern roads began as walking tracks for people and livestock. Which is why many are so many metres (feet) lower than the fields on either side and if they are that bothered then they could always do things the old Irish way and walk. Generally makes them think, I suspect many imagine the roads are really only a hundred or so years old, they can't comprehend the fact they are millennia old. Same with the narrow village lanes, those houses weren't built with cars in mind but with only a couple of horses passing each other, maybe a cart or two on market day.
    I actually find now that I prefer driving on them, and my daughter - who learned to drive in Ireland - will search out the narrow roads when driving between towns as she isn't keen on the wide roads with more than one lane.
    Next time don't forget to visit Ireland as well, we also have some great yarn shops, we even have some mills where you can buy it from the fleece through to the finished product. Glad you enjoyed your visit.

    • @EliseRoseCrochet
      @EliseRoseCrochet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for sharing that perspective! I actually had that thought as we were driving through the country! Thinking about how they paved those old roads, which were meant for a totally different way of travel. I would love to go to Ireland one day! My ancestors are from the west coast of Ireland and I think it would be wonderful to see where they were from. ☘☘☘

    • @musicandbooklover-p2o
      @musicandbooklover-p2o 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@EliseRoseCrochet Some of the roads you drove on in England, especially in York/Eboracum, were probably Roman Roads from 2000 years ago. There are quite a few still in existence and when the Romans made roads, they made them to last.
      Which part of the west coast are your ancestors from, there is quite a bit of it and large parts have very narrow roads for driving on. And on-coming drivers here tend to drive fast in some places (Donegal especially, explains the road accidents rates) because they know the roads. And then there are the tractors, and even the combines - because why waste money on a machine you can only use for harvesting when you can use it for ploughing, seeding, spraying etc as well all year round. And while they can see you coming over the hedges - lots of hedgerows which mean you can't see oncoming traffic - you can't see them until you go round the next bend and meet them taking up the entire road width (if you're lucky they pull into a field entrance way so you can pass), otherwise you soon forget to worry about the paintwork of the vehicle and just hope you can squeeze between them and the grassy bank. Great fun.
      Ireland is a great place to visit, came on holiday and still here nearly 30 years on.

    Your video came up on my feed! So fun to see an American's take on England! I have to admit I had a giggle at the Old Trafford mix up, easily done without knowledge, there is a big shopping centre of the same name too, the Trafford Centre. Definitely a story to retell for years to come. We take our football VERY seriously! If you ever come over the pond again I think you'd love the New Forest, many beautiful yarn shops similar to the one in London, it's about an hour ish from where you were in Bournemouth/Poole. Spray possible, skunk no, again you had me laughing! Spray from cars in the rain/wet road conditions! Sometimes you get a similar one for small stones & chipping if roads have been resurfaced. Those country roads are very scary, especially when there is no passing space, we def couldn't fit some of the big American cars on our roads comfortably. There is a British Brand called Toft that produce wool & many lovely fun crochet designs, the books on animals are great! I think you might like them :) Thank you for a lovely vlog. 🙂

    This was so fascinating, Elise. As an American with mostly British Isles ancestry, this felt like a little history lesson of where my ancestors came from (mostly Scottish but some English and Irish, too.) The architecture was massive! It's a marvel how those castles and cathedrals were built without the aide of modern equipment! Just sheer man-power! And the yarn shop! All those gorgeous yarns!! I'd want them all!

    As a Brit whose lived in the states for 26 years , it was interesting listening to your comments about the narrow roads, the gps
    Comments because slide right or left are not UK phrases!

It was great to see the Harry Styles cardigan because my 23 year old niece taught herself to knit creating that for herself.

The buildings are fascinating and the green patchwork fields always amaze me when I fly back from other countries.
    I live in Greater Manchester and have been a fan of Man United since I was 9 years old. The stadium is very special. But the confusion with the cricket stadium was funny 😂. It’s super to get another point of view from a tourist of all the lovely places I have also visited throughout my life. You must come again as there is so much more to visit and see. Hi how on earth can you goto Lulworth Cove and not walk over the hill to Durdle Door although it is a hike, I enjoyed watching this 🍻🙏

      Our son has cerebral palsy so hiking can be a bit tricky for him. We tend to stay on easy paths, the rocky beach was a bit of a struggle itself! Would love to go back and explore more.

    I can't believe you saw so much in such a short time. it's like a typical American vacation movie - too much to see, too little vacation days.

      Exactly!! I came home absolutely exhausted!! That vacation wore me out!! 😂😂😂

      Yes!!!! My husband literally went to Lake Havasu not long after our trip and sent me a video of the original bridge!! So crazy! 🇬🇧🚗❤️

    Thank you so much for this wonderful vlog of your trip to England. I was born and live in England and it was so lovely to see it through you and your family's eyes. What a funny story about the Old Trafford hotel overlooking the cricket ground and not the football ground and it was good to see that you could see the funny side to it. I will have to visit that cute yarn shop one day, it looked amazing.

      😂😂😂 It was fizzy water which shocked me!! Our sparkling water typically comes in a can and still water comes in bottles! 🤣
