    I potty trained my first daughter at 19 months with a similar method and we are starting with my almost 16 month old this weekend! I wasn’t sure if she was quite ready but your video has me so excited now!!!

    I have twin boys who are almost 16 months, thank you for this video. It was very informative and I love how you explained the good, the bad and stood firm with the potty training all day. It answered every question I had and the fact that you did it with twins really inspires me and let's me know I can do this!!!!!
    I just bought my last box of Pampers, we will start potty training Monday.... Wish I brought a smaller box 😂😂😂

I been potty training my baby for 4 days now and she will start turn to 15 months old in couple days and I been having a lot of negative comments from family saying that she is not ready. Not crazy at all. Fun fact: until about 1957 most children in America were potty trained by 18 months. This was the norm, but it changed around 1959 when diaper company started running campaigns spreading this myth about waiting until they’re “ready” being better, for the sole purpose of making more money by keeping kids in diapers longer.

    I was a weird mama. I blame my mom. She was a weird mama. So we started then around six months. We got potty chairs with a tray. First thing in the morning and right after naps they say one the potty. During that time, I picked them up from the bed at the first waking up sounds. They got a baby snack and we did the big HURRAY when potty happened.
    For the ones that had very regular bowels or that made faces early in the bowl movement, I just hurried up and put them on for that as well.
    Then, as this all became successful I began planning them on the potty about every 45 minutes. I adjusted for their needs but that was usually about right.
    For the most part, they were potty trained by a year old and, yes, they used sign language to tell me. The HUGE hurray was when we could tell daddy we used the same diaper all day (also cloth) and it was usually pretty wrinkly and lumpy so we put a fresh one on at the hurray point.
    We had setbacks if they got diarrhea sometimes but that only took a day or two after the illness to correct.
    I'm proud of y'all and I really enjoy your videos. I am now schooling two grandsons three days per week during the summer and it takes me back to when our kids were growing up. Your videos have been a cheery note for me and the timing was great. Keep it up y'all!

    Does everyone know about Elimination Communication? It's a much better method and you can start earlier. There are videos of babies a few months old using sign language to ask to go to the potty and using it again to say they are done.

    I started this with my 16mo old this week and it’s amazing how much she’s capable of. I’m wondering when you start putting pants on them? And when you go out, do you put a diaper on them? And I’m concerned it’ll be a while before my girl ever starts letting me know she needs to go. I set a timer to put her on the potty ever 30-45mins.

    • @deputietribe
      @deputietribe  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Typically after 1-2 weeks I start undies and pants. They need help when they need to go still. This is the stage you teach them to communicate to you they need to go instead of just freely going. Beginning stage is learning bladder control.

    You mentioned in the night time training part of this, that eventually your child will get up on his own in the night and use the potty in his room. Do your kids at this age no longer use a crib? Did you transition them at some point to a floor bed and how did you do that? Thanks!

    I have a question. I’m potty training my 15 month old. Like you said, she’ll be on the potty, pitch a fit, get up, and immediately pee or poo on the floor. You said just keep them on the potty even if they’re crying & pitching a fit . That won’t make my girl scared of the potty or not want to be on it? I know my girl has got this. She can do it. I’m just terrified that I’ll make her scared of the potty. I can’t tell her to not get up off the potty & her actually listen & stay on it. I have to put my hands on her thighs & kind of keep her there that way. But she is NOT happy. So I stopped doing that & decided to comment & ask you first.
    When she pee/poos on the floor I say “oh no, we don’t pee/poo on the floor. We put our pee/poo in the potty.” & I’ll take her to her potty & sit her down on it while saying that.
    🤞🏽hoping you respond! Your video is the best one I’ve found on this lol.

    • @deputietribe
      @deputietribe  ปีที่แล้ว

      When you say she’s “pitching a fit” is she like throwing a temper tantrum or is she scared to relive herself?

    • @DRWatson2202
      @DRWatson2202 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m assuming a temper tantrum. She’ll sit down, cry/whine, throw herself backwards a lot & then get up.. to go relieve herself on the floor. Now when I tried to keep her seated. She’ll do the same things, & then I let her up I felt horrible. Now I try to keep her entertained while she’s on it with books, toys, singing songs. That only lasts so long though. Sometimes I’ll get lucky & she pees in the potty. I stop whatever we’re doing & point out what’s going on. & other times gets up and does it on the floor again. I’m not sure what it looks like when a kid is scared to relive themselves . This is my first kid I don’t know a lot I guess lol. She doesn’t hide from me to relieve herself though.

    • @DRWatson2202
      @DRWatson2202 ปีที่แล้ว

      We just got the potty Oct. 5th. It’s been 3 days. I actually haven’t been able to keep her naked from the waist down full time this weekend. I really didn’t plan on actually potty training the same day I got the potty, so when I decided to I didn’t think things through. But from this point forward she’ll be diaper free all the time .
      She’s very interested in the big toilet. I’ll try to have us go together sometimes, thinking it may help her to see that I use the potty too. She will get off her potty, to come to mine & try to flush it

    • @deputietribe
      @deputietribe  ปีที่แล้ว

      @DRWatson2202 you know your child better than anyone so it’s hard to give good counsel with limited understanding of your situation. What comes to mind is We spend quite a bit of time when they’re very little teaching them not to throw temper tantrums and to be obedient to what we instruct them in. This makes potty training much easier as their temperaments are mild. I suppose if my child was prone to throwing fits when they don’t get what they want or don’t like something, I would hold off on potty training until that part of their character is under control and then revisit potty training. Potty training is an extension of any training you do as a parent. Training to be obedient, joyful, kind, self controlled… this training sets them up for all sorts of learning in life. When you teach them to tie their shoe, read, ride a bike, having a cheerful and obedient temperament makes a teachable child. I hope that helps!

    When do you start putting pants on them around the house?

    • @deputietribe
      @deputietribe  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually we will do undies after a week or so once they get it down sitting on the potty themselves but they can’t really get them down without help. It’s just to teach them to communicate they need help.

  • @sharonkazda9465
    @sharonkazda9465 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How often do you have them sit?

  • @faithmarieb4362
    @faithmarieb4362 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    For night training, we put our girl in training undies and then two layers of pants since it’s cold. So she slept through her accident in the night.
    When you did night training, would peeing wake them up at night and they learn from that? Or would they sleep through it? If they sleep through it, is that okay? Will they still learn? Thanks again!!

    • @deputietribe
      @deputietribe  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We would wake them up around the time we would head to bed and put them on the potty (for us between 11-12).
      They would pee in the bed so we would cover in plastic or lay a mat of some sort. Eventually they would learn. I don’t know how it happens but it does.
      Also avoiding liquids close to bed helps a lot.

    • @deputietribe
      @deputietribe  ปีที่แล้ว

      They go by themselves.
      It takes a couple days for them to really understand it and gain bladder control. If you have a little potty out in the room that you and your toddler are in then they can see it and quickly access it.

    Hi, I'm in the process of potty training my almost 17-month-old baby and am currently on week 1. She often pees in her pants, but occasionally I'm able to get her to finish on the potty. It feels hopeless at times, and I'm tempted to give up. I'm wondering when it gets easier and more successful. she pees in her pants, and Sometimes, she makes a signal by stopping in the middle of a game, but I don't have enough time to get her to the potty before she starts peeing. She doesn't speak much and only knows a few sign languages like "more," "clear," and "milk." I'm desperate for tips because right now it feels like she will never understand...

    • @deputietribe
      @deputietribe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don’t give up! They understand far more than we give them credit for. It’s just like training a child to do anything - read, ride a bike etc. It’s a learned skill that comes easier with continual practice.
      Are you using diapers at all? If so, this can be confusing and delay the process.
      If peeing pants is an issue, try no pants or undies until she is freely using the little potty herself. Then introduce underwear and teach her to communicate that she has to pee somehow. If you need to leave the house, put underwear and pants on but have her sit on the potty often! Bring a little potty in the car and every time you’re in or out of the car, use the potty.

    • @sofiajonasson8281
      @sofiajonasson8281 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, thank you for responding. I removed the diaper completely from day one but have chosen to use diapers at night (cloth diapers).
      I removed everything initially and let her be naked from the waist down for 6 days without much progress. On days 7 and 8, we started using pants. She can handle outings for up to 90 minutes without any accidents.
      Do you think I should go back to not having her wear pants? It felt like the progress was about the same regardless of whether she wore pants or not.
      When I ask her "where should pee/poop go," she points to the potty and says "there." When she poops, she points at it and babbles. She went from peeing 28 times on day one to peeing 11 times yesterday. But it doesn't seem like she understands that she needs to go to the toilet before it happens. You mentioned teaching them to say when they need to use the potty, what did you use? I've tried to get her to say/sound "kisss" for pee and "goo" for poop. She's not interested in using sign language for potty/pee/poop yet. I put her on a routine for potty after she sleeps/before we go out and before bedtime. We haven't gone on longer car trips either because we live within walking distance of the store/playground, etc.
      Today marks day 9 of our potty training.
      (I hope you understand, English isn't my first language 😅)

    • @deputietribe
      @deputietribe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds to me like a great success! I think you just need to keep sticking it out. Sounds like she is gaining bladder control reducing the number of times she is peeing in a day. Don’t focus so much on how long you have been training. Some kids get it in a week, some kids a few months. Some kids learn to read quickly and some take longer. As hard as it is, try to enjoy the moments bonding with her and teaching her her very first steps of independence!
      You’re doing great!
      My fourth child took the longest to potty train. I kept feeling like he was never going to get it. Slowly over the course of a few months he began to become more and more controlled and aware. It took a while with him. I think you’re doing everything correctly!! Keep me posted

    • @sofiajonasson8281
      @sofiajonasson8281 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice to hear. I know it's hard for you to say, but how much time can it take until she starts understanding? You mentioned that it took a long time for your fourth child. Is it 2 months or more than that? And when things started getting better, did it happen 'overnight' or was it a slow process throughout
