The guy who played carmine junior did an excellent job as a dumb smart guy. It’s actually hilarious how he could say meaningless lines that were obvious to everyone in the most satirical ways.

If Carmine Junior was a 'dumb smart guy,' then Tony B was definitely a 'smart dumb guy.' Him doing that silly Honeymooners routine, coupled with reading someone else's comment, convinced me.
Interesting point. Tony B mentions how he's essentially teaching himself med school for his massage license, only to throw his massage parlour away before it even opens because he's already sick of working hard - relative to his mob friends. Meanwhile Carmine Jr. is actively backing away from his mob life to seek happiness as mentioned in his mellifluous box dream

David Chase, and Stevie Van Zandt, were huge fans and Chase used several Four Season’s songs in the soundtrack and even the title of one episode (Big Girls Don’t Cry, S2-E5), so Chase paid homage to Frankie Valli and wrote him a ‘little’ character. As Phil Leotardo called him: “The Mayor of Munchkin Land!”

Asking Frankie Valli to play an Italian guy from Newark has to be the easiest payday that man ever had.
I was shocked that Rusty came and went quick. But I guess it was Frankie doing his Jersey Boy thing and couldn't commit to further episodes. When I see hm though, I immediately think, "Grease is the word... it's got groove it's got a meaning."

On Talking Sopranos, Frankie said David Chase initially considered Frankie for the role of Beansie but thought better of it. Chase was right. Paul Herman was great as Beansie and I wouldn't have wanted to see Frankie swearing and getting run over, getting threatened, ending up in a wheelchair, looking week and getting bested by Richie and so on. Rusty was a much more dignified role for Frankie.

This was probably a mistake. Carmine as Rusty's puppet was probably better for Tony to work with than Phil who took over after Johnny Sack died and wanted revenge for his 20 years in the can
