  • I changed my spark plugs and thought I would share how to do it because it is a little strange on these cars. The important things to take away from this are that you should 1. Use high quality replacements (I used oem NKG iridium ones) 2. Clean the electrical apparatuses. 3. Use anti-seize lubricant on the threads of the new plugs. 4. Torque the new plugs to 13 ft/lb which is the factory spec. DO NOT OVER TORQUE! These are aluminum block engines and you can strip the threads.

    Thanks for making this video. I have an 05 TSX and have been doing my own maintenance on my car for a few years now. Its nice to see vids specific to the TSX as there aren't many.

    These are NGK 6994 for those who need to know. I got those too for 04 TSX

    NGK does not require anti-seize on the threads. I did not have trouble removing the plugs, however I do not leave them in over 100K miles. I change mine every 60-70K. I just dont feel comfortable not inspecting the engine for 100K. I look down the tube and look at the top of the piston cheking for any build-up. Mine piston tops are clean as a whistle! I only run shell or Chevron 91 and Castrol edge Euro oil. You can also take a peek at the heater hoses at the same time.

      it's been two years since you commented but here goes anyway, from what I've heard most of the spark plug manufacturers say not to use any lubricant because you shouldn't get any on the insulator (if I'm being honest I don't know why that is) they say don't use any so joe blow won't get the wd40 and hose the things down. but it still helps the next guy thats got to change them out

    Hey, the bolt you picked up at 25 sec do you know where I can get a replacement? What do you even call that bolt? Need to know asap pls

      Amar Patel I don't know exactly. I would guess 10 mm. However, if you call your local Acura dealer's parts department they could pull it up and tell you exactly what you need. They're always super helpful to me. Even if you don't want to spend the extra money to get the OEM one they'll tell you the thread pitch and everything about it

      thanks for the quick response...i found out more about that bolt. Its referenced as "Bolt A" part number 90013-PNC-010. Acura didn't carry it so I went to Lowes and found one that fit that hole. good video, those bolts are fragile, be careful when tightening.

    Guys....you don’t need a torque wrench to change the plugs! Good video none the less.

    I am a bit confused about torquing. I plan on getting this done on my TSX, but need a bit more info on how to torque and to what number?

    • @oneeyedrover2487
      @oneeyedrover2487  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This just means that you have to tighten the spark plug to a certain torque spec. This is important because if you tighten the spark plug too much then you can strip the threads which requires major engine work. So follow the torque spec so that you don't have to take the car into the "professionals"

    What is the torque spec for 2008 acura tsx?

    • @oneeyedrover2487
      @oneeyedrover2487  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will say what the torque spec is in your owners manual. For my 2005 it was 13 ft-lbs.

      It doesn't on my 2008 acura tax manual. Any thoughts? I have the spark plugs coming to me in about a week. Thanks!

    Tape the spark plug socket to the extension first so it doesn't get stuck in the engine. Then use the electronic cleaner (or any other cleaner) to wipe the tape residue off your tools.

      What would be some qualified alternative cleaners (e.g. WD40?)?

      you think a magnetic extension would work just as well?

    Which specific torque wrench did you use?

    • @oneeyedrover2487
      @oneeyedrover2487  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the advanced auto parts generic brand

    • @rvnot1one1
      @rvnot1one1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Garrett LF Is it this one?
      shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/autocraft-3-8-dr-torque-wrench-ac651/10042688-P
      Also, when changing the spark plugs, does it matter where you begin from, i.e., from left to right or right to left?

    • @oneeyedrover2487
      @oneeyedrover2487  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rvnot1one1 Yes, that is the torque wrench. it does not matter which order you do the plugs in.

    • @rvnot1one1
      @rvnot1one1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Garrett LF thanks! I will go get it! I plan on doing it this weekend. I got about 106,800 on my 08 TSX and still loving the car! Dealer wanted $300 which is out of this world! I got the actual OEM spark plugs for like $8 each. Let you know how it goes once I do it.

    my 06 tsx had the "check emmission service" light com on a few days ago and i talked with a mechanic and he said it could be a lot of things and im hoping maybe you guys can tell me so i don't have to spend money i don't have. thank you

    • @DJAmovement
      @DJAmovement 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh and ge also said that it's third cylinder is not working

    • @oneeyedrover2487
      @oneeyedrover2487  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andres Movement Do you have an aftermarket air intake or exhaust system? I know that can sometimes mess with the emissions. I've had that light come on in different cars for me and I was the O2 sensor. If you take it to a place like advance auto then you can get the OBD2 code read for free. That'll give you more info.
      For the third cylinder not working I've seen a lot of things that cause that. A spark plug wire could be ripped, the spark plug could be poorly grounded to the threading, the fuel injector could be clogged etc.
