      I keep hearing .308 is a higher pressure cartridge, but the standards used for measuring .308 and NATO are different and not directly comparable. Looking at muzzle velocities, the two seems to be within manufacturing tolerances of each other in actual power.

      The last standard that lr308 needs to do is firing pins. There's 2 variations. High pressure(smaller firing pin hole in the bolt) and standard(becoming less common)...and proprietary shit from jp enterprises and rubber city armory. KAK has high pressure firing pins for Aero and toolcraft High pressure bolts in case you're firing pin doesn't fit.

      Hey ^^^ He gets it! No really, thank you. There's just so much "junk" out there when 80% of us just enjoy shooting. Personally, I'm tired of no one helping the regular 'ol "weekend warrior". There's no harm in being a recreational shooter just as much as there's no harm choosing "cost friendly" shooting options, contrary to what many "gun-industry voices" would recommend. Bottom line for me, personally, if & when SHTF... I'm deadly no matter what's in my hands, cost or "best" aside.

You know, if you're only going out that far, there are some solid 1-8x or 1-10x LPVOs that would probably fit the bill, especially when that trophy surprises you out of the shrubs at 75yds...slap that zoom flipper and he won't fill your entire field of view. (Right now our AT3 Red Tail LPVO only comes in 1-6x...but we have some stronger powered ones on the horizon. 🤫)

    for deer, hogs & some rangle fun of course. Its in 308. I used aero precision M5 upper, lower, 15" atlas S one handguard all traditional color camo cerakoted. I'm using a Faxon 18 big gunner with rifle gas. A WMD nickel boron bcg, Odin adjustable buffer, geissle SDE trigger. For moment I have a Faxon low pro gas block but I'm considering the superlative adjustable gas block, the gas forward version. Do you think adjustable gas block is worth it?? I'm building a rifle length ar10 for hunting. I'm torn between barrelsbfrom juggernaut tactical. Faxon and ballalistic advantage. The one thing I'm hung up on is weight. Barrel from faxon and juggernaut range from 35oz-38oz. Looking at stainless flutted barrels. One from ballistic advantage got my attention but weighs 49oz. I want my gun balanced but also worried about loosing performance by choosing one of the lighter barrels. The farthest I'd likely shoot would be 600 yards. Thoughts?

    • @At3tactical
      @At3tactical  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With my limited experience on the juggernaut tactical I would say Ballistic Advantage have a far better quality barrel and the sub moa promise is huge and I think it makes up for the difference in weight plus the price of the BA barrels usually doesn’t hurt as much as the others.

    • @At3tactical
      @At3tactical  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      "Best" is something that's really losing its meaning, because everywhere you look the answer is "depends". I'm hoping to head down south and get some hog slaying in someday, but I think when I get to building my hog-killer... it'll be around that 16"-18"....which some might still consider short for "AR-10"...however, you're not sitting, glassing, setting up a shot, stalking...etc all the time with hogs. I want something a bit shorter that I can swing and maneuver rapidly, but not so short that I give up velocity and stability at a bit longer distance. There's sure a lot of powder left in the Big Boy cartridges after 12"-14". Hope that helps a bit. -Randy

    An interesting fact about the wild is that your chance of survival is like 20 to 80 where the 20 is you, as the majority of the wild animals living there can pose a deadly encounter toward you and your family. Also, almost none carries a HAM radio programmed to emergency channels or rangers in the area - hunters. The other thing they miss is that apex predators are like serial killers or psychopaths they always hide, not only in the physical world but also inside their mind - like the super subconscious mind and through it sneak up on their victims on their subconscious mind that why they are undetectable, so when you feel comfortable with that part of your psyche it is most probably already too late. When you camp also spray some ammonia around your camp on the ground and stay away from the woods as that is their comfort zone, they have to stay hidden and yes you`ll be exposed in the open, but so they are and to them, it is a threat to survival. An electric fence is also a must if you decide to take your 20 percent survival chances and enter such an area, that is suicide in my opinion. Motion detector alarms with warning flashes are also a must around your campsite, you can also program your HAM radio to nearby amateur radio frequencies to be sure you can ask for help. Please, set it up as a transmitter so you can extend the range of other frequencies users staying in the area, and a GPS device with SOS mode is also a must. If guns are available you have to have them too, preferably a larger caliber with high grain bullets 140gr and up, and you should be able to use them when have to, so practice is a must. Out in the wild survival is key and dominance is a key to survival. For a bear on foot due to its length a 20 feet path takes about 1.5 sec, so prepare to face death and be able to act on it accordingly.

      Lots of good information here! Yeah, being able to communicate will be very, beefing helpful, especially if you are lost or trying to link up with others. Actually, though, the individual-odds of survival in the wilderness are extremely-high, if the given individual knows what they’re doing, is trained-and/or-experienced in such, and plays clever: most people did it for centuries and their daily-life was what we would call, “survival,” but most of the skills are simply not popular anymore, sadly.

    • @YouWille
      @YouWille 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @merakimelodies8931 Well, camping in an area where predators are hunting for food is not a high chance of survival, and I don't understand why rangers allow humans into the wilderness, and or take complaints when wild animals intrude on our communities. They are learning from us the more they see us the more they can relate to us and prey on us, they belong to the wild and we don't belong there.

    • @merakimelodies8931
      @merakimelodies8931 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@YouWille Oh, that definitely, definitely does reduce those odds, for sure, by a whole lot! 😂 I mean your odds are by no means bad or abysmal, though, and are pretty dang good, still: people survived for centuries like that, and we’re not extinct and survived it pretty deftly as a species, and that was with high-poundage bows and atlatls. Today, the odds are pretty solid. Basically, as someone who’s grown up hunting and in the woods, animals can be ferocious, but that’s usually only if they are backed into a corner with no way out or are starving or are protecting their babies from a perceived-threat. There have been incidents like the story of the Savo lions in Africa, but that is exceedingly-rare, so we’re mostly ok in the woods, especially these days. Like I’ve seen blackbear in-person, and it’s not like they tried to rend me apart or anything: they usually just go the other way when they see people. But yeah, definitely do be aware of them and don’t provoke them, because they are pretty strong and fast: definitely best to be respectful of them, I say, but also not a solid cause to avoid the wild. 😊

    The problem is most gun owners don't have a purpose for the gun other than to say they own it. I am switching over from benchrest rifles to the AR platforms. The problem I am running into is the change in balance as the weight of the AR is weight forward. A short barrel and a weighted stock would help. When you show an elk, I think 30-06 minimum, so a 308 is too tiny for the purpose. I know there is the ego trip of shot placement, but I have missed shots beyond 250 yards because the target moved as I sent it. You have to plan around FUBAR and what happens when you comes face to face with a bear.

      Using deer guns like a 30-06 - 308 is extreme under gunned here for two reasons the shooting over 1/2 mile and long distances across these canyons and a Roosevelt Elk as an adult is always starting at 1200 pounds.
      The last Roosevelt Elk I killed was the size of a year and a half old Alaskan Yukon Moose and it took at close range 50 yards 3 Nosler partition 175 grain 7 mm bullets from a 7 mm Rem mag to the chest.
      I just got lucky to stumble into the heard and the heard spooked then the Elk I shot was all confused where to run then ran right at me blind stupid.
      Types of area in the U.S Hunted the size of game Hunted and many other factors I could go into can make deer guns like the 30-06 - 308 be far under gunned for the type of hunting.

    i was already planning on going with the aero precision upper and lower and then i wanted to choose my own barrel and bcg though. I want a 16 to 18 to 20 inch cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel with the most durable finish and material. And i have been looking at lantac bcg all in .308

      Make sure to go with the M5E1 over the regular M5, I’ve got both and lemme tell ya the enhanced is worth the slightly extra money since it makes installing your own barrel at home and swapping em in the future a hell of a lot easier easier. So much so that I plan on getting an 8.6blk and 6.5creedmoor barrel soon for it simply to swap around, eventually I’ll build those barrels in to their own dedicated uppers then rifles. As a general 4-500yrd and in gun where 8-90% of your shots will take place the 16in .308 does a great job, if you plan on running a suppressor it’s a good length before it starts gettin a tad unwieldy.

      @@nickwalters9311 Of course man, and hey another thing is if you’re going to buy it all from Aero make sure to time it when they have some kind of sale, they always come n go frequently.
      They also have monthly cerakoted build kits, right now for December is a snow camo, my M5E1 is from last year’s June kit which was Multi Camo, it looks fantastic. I almost went with a classic woodland camo kit they dropped recently but just didn’t have the extra cash to blow at the time, but good God was it a beautiful pattern. Now you will have to pay full price if you get the cerakoted builders kit, BUT you don’t get charged extra for the paint job, which man for everything including the stock and grip would usually be many hundreds extra. Not so when ya buy a kit, you’re not saving money as ya would with Blem or sale buys, but man if you plan on cerakoting your rifle afterwards and just so happen to fall in love with a certain months pattern I’d suggest goin for it since it’s a hell of a money saver cerakote wise. If snow camo isn’t your thing and you’re in no rush to build they announce em the beginning of each month, if you get texts from em they’ll send out a mass text when they drop, the M5E1’s always sell out first and the also camo’d up Magpul stock/grips that come separate also go VERY fast. Nothin wrong with a black or rattle can paint job’d rifle, I can also promise ya though they got the best value on “custom” cerakote paint jobs anywhere.
      Ya can also google for past builder kits on the resale market but it’s difficult to get what ya want where as the first few hours of the monthly drop ya can get any type of M4/5 or enhanced upper build that ya could want.
      I will say too make it easy on yourself with the parts just go mostly Aero, they’re not overpriced or on the flip side cheap, that’s why I love em. Also Ballistic Advantage is their sister company, so if ya don’t find a barrel that seems perfect for you here then try lookin there too. Also Aero’s .750 adjustable gas block works great, so do their gas tubes, makes sure to get the right length one to match with your barrel. Other than a parts kit ya just need a buffer tube/spring/weight and Aero offers all of that too. The only thing I added that wasn’t ordered through Aero was a Geiselle SSA-E trigger and a Magpul bipod to go with the other Magpul furniture like the stock/vertical grip/hand grip.
      There ya have an entire build.
      Happy building 🤙

    Don’t waste your time or money on a Ballistic Advantage Modern Series Profile in .308” it’s an overgassed abomination. 10oz buffer and Wolf Extra power spring didn’t stand a chance. Had to use an adjustable block to get it to run right and once I did it was a 4 MOA barrel. Very disappointed

      @@texasviking1 you looked at the data do you know how to read? Because you're spewing crap. 150 gr 308 2900 fps. 140 gr 6.5 cm 2700 fps. 100 gr 243 3100 fps 80 gr 243 3400fps.
      The highest velocity 6.5 cm is 3100 fps with a 95 gr. Highest velocity 308 is 3300 fps 110 gr. Highest velocity 243 is 4000 fps+ 55 gr. You do not know how to read and comprehend.
      I've been shooting 260 Remington before 6.5 cm was ever made. The chronograph says a 260 rem is easily 150 fps faster than 6.5 cm with the same bullet.

    • @Mike-xi4zt
      @Mike-xi4zt 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@tonybrown8351 260 with the same bullet can be loaded faster than 6.5 cm with the same bullet. Hornady goes out of their way to fluff their cartridge. One trick is H gives data for 6.5 cm in 50 fps increments. And anything that is in competition with it they round down to the nearest 100 fps increments. Which makes a 50 fps difference look like 150 fps difference. 6.5 cm is loaded to higher pressure than 260 rem, 7mm-08, 308 win.
