      I keep hearing .308 is a higher pressure cartridge, but the standards used for measuring .308 and NATO are different and not directly comparable. Looking at muzzle velocities, the two seems to be within manufacturing tolerances of each other in actual power.

      Just watched it...not sure there was as much info as you think. A lot of caveats in every sentence lets you know that these platforms are very flexible but tunable.
      Here's my point. @At3tactical didn't really go into the reasons why you'd select 16" vs 18" vs 20". He didn't cover twist rates. He didn't cover manufacturers. Barrel compositions & alloys used (and chrome lining). To me, there was about 20% information & 80% non-serious yammering about the different ammo types.
      To be fair, the combinations out there is vast. Once you hone in on the duty for the firearm, then you'll start to filter things out...like 16" with muzzle devices if you mostly shoot at the range or distance, for example.
      I was really hoping to hear more about twist rates by barrel length by gas system for each of the calibers, but we got a bunch of quips while talking mostly about ammo types.

      Hey ^^^ He gets it! No really, thank you. There's just so much "junk" out there when 80% of us just enjoy shooting. Personally, I'm tired of no one helping the regular 'ol "weekend warrior". There's no harm in being a recreational shooter just as much as there's no harm choosing "cost friendly" shooting options, contrary to what many "gun-industry voices" would recommend. Bottom line for me, personally, if & when SHTF... I'm deadly no matter what's in my hands, cost or "best" aside.

    The problem is most gun owners don't have a purpose for the gun other than to say they own it. I am switching over from benchrest rifles to the AR platforms. The problem I am running into is the change in balance as the weight of the AR is weight forward. A short barrel and a weighted stock would help. When you show an elk, I think 30-06 minimum, so a 308 is too tiny for the purpose. I know there is the ego trip of shot placement, but I have missed shots beyond 250 yards because the target moved as I sent it. You have to plan around FUBAR and what happens when you comes face to face with a bear.

      As a resident of the west side Pacific NW I can tell you that you would be in shock and aw to see the massive coast range canyons here so High are the mountains on a clear day we see the Pacific Ocean and the volcanic mountains of the Cascade Range a more than few hundred miles away.
      The Elk here are the largest of all Elk the Roosevelt Elk which I am sure you haven't a clue to even know the different species of Elk you just call an Elk an Elk from total Eastern Ignorance!
      Using deer guns like a 30-06 - 308 is extreme under gunned here for two reasons the shooting over 1/2 mile and long distances across these canyons and a Roosevelt Elk as an adult is always starting at 1200 pounds.
      The last Roosevelt Elk I killed was the size of a year and a half old Alaskan Yukon Moose and it took at close range 50 yards 3 Nosler partition 175 grain 7 mm bullets from a 7 mm Rem mag to the chest.
      I just got lucky to stumble into the heard and the heard spooked then the Elk I shot was all confused where to run then ran right at me blind stupid.
      Types of area in the U.S Hunted the size of game Hunted and many other factors I could go into can make deer guns like the 30-06 - 308 be far under gunned for the type of hunting.
      When someone like you starts in with comment content like you write indicates you have very little hunting experiences of your own.

Barrel from faxon and juggernaut range from 35oz-38oz. Looking at stainless flutted barrels. One from ballistic advantage got my attention but weighs 49oz. I want my gun balanced but also worried about loosing performance by choosing one of the lighter barrels. The farthest I'd likely shoot would be 600 yards. Thoughts?

I'm hoping to head down south and get some hog slaying in someday, but I think when I get to building my hog-killer... it'll be around that 16"-18"....which some might still consider short for "AR-10"...however, you're not sitting, glassing, setting up a shot, stalking...etc all the time with hogs. I want something a bit shorter that I can swing and maneuver rapidly, but not so short that I give up velocity and stability at a bit longer distance. There's sure a lot of powder left in the Big Boy cartridges after 12"-14". Hope that helps a bit. -Randy

      Make sure to go with the M5E1 over the regular M5, I’ve got both and lemme tell ya the enhanced is worth the slightly extra money since it makes installing your own barrel at home and swapping em in the future a hell of a lot easier easier. So much so that I plan on getting an 8.6blk and 6.5creedmoor barrel soon for it simply to swap around, eventually I’ll build those barrels in to their own dedicated uppers then rifles. As a general 4-500yrd and in gun where 8-90% of your shots will take place the 16in .308 does a great job, if you plan on running a suppressor it’s a good length before it starts gettin a tad unwieldy.

      @@nickwalters9311 Of course man, and hey another thing is if you’re going to buy it all from Aero make sure to time it when they have some kind of sale, they always come n go frequently.
      They also have monthly cerakoted build kits, right now for December is a snow camo, my M5E1 is from last year’s June kit which was Multi Camo, it looks fantastic. I almost went with a classic woodland camo kit they dropped recently but just didn’t have the extra cash to blow at the time, but good God was it a beautiful pattern. Now you will have to pay full price if you get the cerakoted builders kit, BUT you don’t get charged extra for the paint job, which man for everything including the stock and grip would usually be many hundreds extra. Not so when ya buy a kit, you’re not saving money as ya would with Blem or sale buys, but man if you plan on cerakoting your rifle afterwards and just so happen to fall in love with a certain months pattern I’d suggest goin for it since it’s a hell of a money saver cerakote wise. If snow camo isn’t your thing and you’re in no rush to build they announce em the beginning of each month, if you get texts from em they’ll send out a mass text when they drop, the M5E1’s always sell out first and the also camo’d up Magpul stock/grips that come separate also go VERY fast. Nothin wrong with a black or rattle can paint job’d rifle, I can also promise ya though they got the best value on “custom” cerakote paint jobs anywhere.
      Ya can also google for past builder kits on the resale market but it’s difficult to get what ya want where as the first few hours of the monthly drop ya can get any type of M4/5 or enhanced upper build that ya could want.
      I will say too make it easy on yourself with the parts just go mostly Aero, they’re not overpriced or on the flip side cheap, that’s why I love em. Also Ballistic Advantage is their sister company, so if ya don’t find a barrel that seems perfect for you here then try lookin there too. Also Aero’s .750 adjustable gas block works great, so do their gas tubes, makes sure to get the right length one to match with your barrel. Other than a parts kit ya just need a buffer tube/spring/weight and Aero offers all of that too. The only thing I added that wasn’t ordered through Aero was a Geiselle SSA-E trigger and a Magpul bipod to go with the other Magpul furniture like the stock/vertical grip/hand grip.
      There ya have an entire build.

    What would be the best version for me in 308? Let me explain what I would like to defend myself from a creature that weighs between 600 to 1000 pounds and the creatures work as a team, the place where they live is well wooded. And I have to maneuver, would a 16" or 18" be better? . Because I don't want to lose a lot of speed and I would have to use copper bullets

    6.5 creedmore is NOT higher velocity than .308 or .243. You are one of the nonsensical believers of the 6.5 Creedmoor religion.

      Depends on the bullet. I prefer 260 Rem or 7mm 08.All the same case.

      😂😂 a quick look at some load data tell’s me you are the nonsensical one 😂😂

    • @Mike-xi4zt
      @Mike-xi4zt 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@texasviking1 you looked at the data do you know how to read? Because you're spewing crap. 150 gr 308 2900 fps. 140 gr 6.5 cm 2700 fps. 100 gr 243 3100 fps 80 gr 243 3400fps.
      The highest velocity 6.5 cm is 3100 fps with a 95 gr. Highest velocity 308 is 3300 fps 110 gr. Highest velocity 243 is 4000 fps+ 55 gr. You do not know how to read and comprehend.
      I've been shooting 260 Remington before 6.5 cm was ever made. The chronograph says a 260 rem is easily 150 fps faster than 6.5 cm with the same bullet.

    • @Mike-xi4zt
      @Mike-xi4zt 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@tonybrown8351 260 with the same bullet can be loaded faster than 6.5 cm with the same bullet. Hornady goes out of their way to fluff their cartridge. One trick is H gives data for 6.5 cm in 50 fps increments. And anything that is in competition with it they round down to the nearest 100 fps increments. Which makes a 50 fps difference look like 150 fps difference. 6.5 cm is loaded to higher pressure than 260 rem, 7mm-08, 308 win.

    I’d love an Ar platform chambered in 7mm Remington Mag, to me that would be the perfect combination. Plenty of stopping power and capable of shooting farther than 96% of the population could believe or shoot themselves
