  • Our new JP SuperMatch .308 Win barrel is here! It's a 20" 1:10 twist from their clearance section. I also go a JP High Pressure EnhancedBolt. In this video we have a look at the barrel and then build our .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor uppers.

When given multiple choices on the phone, always, (repeat) always dial the highest ranking choice. That way you will be guided to the best person for your enquiry. But don't ask to the transferred, best off to make your enquiry with this manager. Works a treat! Make sure they know your name and you'll be remembered. Be polite and sound excited about their product.
No hurry up with the reloading/shooting, we're getting very impatient, lmao!!!

Armalite is a proper firing pin / hole diameter too without calling it high pressure. It’s simply the proper smaller diameter. Earlier DPMS were flawed with the larger silly diameter. I easily swapped the dumb DPMS bolt for the right Armalite, solving pressure problems before JP market trick came out. That’s how I solved firing pin hole problems ten years ago working up a 6xc long range field precision setup.

That AR 10 is going to be a nice rifle. I wish I bought the AR 10 that we had at the shop in 2000. I was just not a AR platform rifle kind of guy back then. That's when I had all the money I needed. Now 18 years later I'm kicking myself for not buying it. I bought a Springfield G3 instead. That was a mistake. I couldn't get that rifle to group at 500 yards to save my soul. I gave up on the semi auto and went back to the bolt action. Traded it in for a Weatherby mark V in .30-378. that became my new 1000 yard gun that I took to the Whittington center once a month. I lived in Denver back then so a 4 hour drive and we were there for the weekend. Those were my favorite trips back then. My dad and I would gamble on shots. He always took my money at the rifle range. I took his when we went fishing.

I like to add that when i ordered my JP low mass bolt carrier they sent me a low friction gas ring for the bolt. Im sure by looking at the video that your bolt has the low friction gas ring on it compared to the aero bolt regular 3 gas rings.

I was hoping to see a faxon barrel make it into the mix. We all know Krieger will perform and JP is no slouch. But I'd be interested in seeing if there's a trade-off in loss of accuracy with the increased lifespan on the QPQ barrels.

The JP barrels are unmatched but the best reason to go with their HP Enhanced Bolt is that they are properly head spaced to the barrel so you know you are within tolerance, otherwise you are gambling that it will head space correctly. If for some reason the JP barrel won't shoot call their CS department and they will replace it and btw that barrel is polished and not a machine finish. Looking forward to seeing how this shoots!

Trying to decide on a barrel replacement for my 308 and very eager to see you do a accuracy video like you have done already with the previous 308 barrel that you replaced with the JP!! Haven’t been able to determine why you went with 20” vs 22 or 24” since the focus seems to be accuracy? Could you explain your thoughts and take it further than that was the popular vote? I have a 16” barrel and want to have longer range accuracy without trying to build a precision rifle. What’s your thought on the point of diminishing returns on a gas gun in 308?

Do you think the JP high pressure bolt is worth the money? I feel like this is what I need to solve the problem with pressure signs on my brass when I’m well below max charge in my AR10 .308. No pierced primers but heavy ejector smears.

  • @THutch556
    @THutch556 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

JRB the set up looks nice. I’m sure it will shoot better than the last 308 barrel. And I hope it shoots tiny groups for you.
With that said I think a lot of people like to compare notes and load along with you, I know I did in the 6.5 Compass series as well as the .223 WOA series. With this particular barrel being a clearance item if it turns out to be a shooter, no one is gonna be able to follow along down the road.
Like I said in the last video, My Criterion and Krieger barrels shoot, I’ve never had or seen one that didn’t and that was the reason for recommending them, as going with the JP is a little unknown. (At least for me) What blank is it? Who turns them and finishes them? Are they finished hand lapped? But With that said JP in general is known for putting out quality precision rifles so I’m sure you will be fine, in the event it doesn’t shoot it’s gonna be interesting to see what the customer service is like if they won’t answer the phone.
    Looking forward to the series.

one thing you could try to save your brass life is put a heavier buffer/ buffer spring, i recently built a AR-308 with a 18" barrel, n have had problems with brass, nasty burs etc. even with factory ammo n Ive turned down the gas 2 steps from not cycling, so I got a heavy buffer from Midway, waiting to get out to the range to try though. ive also got a heavier spring sitting around from the build. I reload my own ammo so i'd like to preserve my brass as long as possible

Is there a way you could have a "shot clock" going during each 5 shot group that shows real time? Really like the way you edit, but would like to get a sense of what it is taking to keep the barrel cool whether you are using the chamber chiller or not.

A support guy at Sharp's Rifle Company told me that headspace isn't really a thing with AR-type rifles because they're designed to run loose. It's much more important with bolt action rifles. BTW - The Sharp's reliabolt with DLC is pretty nice.

I went with a Criterion hybrid contour barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor for my Aero M5 build this past winter. Seems fine. The JP Enterprises one-piece has check ring turned out to be the only problem with the build. I guess it’s not meant to be used with a Brownells chromed BCG. All this is to say I was very happy to see the mediocrity of the second .308 video (sorry, I felt like I was rooting against the home team) because I really wanted to see that 6.5 CM barrel installed and shot in the M5. Oh, well...

If they upgraded you to a $200 bolt and the barrel and original bolt cost you nearly $500, then substract the value of the high pressure bolt from the cost and that is what your barrel cost. I suspect the "cryogenic" sales pitch is what killed the barrel.
