Do you ever have any issue with the gear box finding neutral while the motor is running? I have this same setup, I have to turn my engine off to get neutral, but i can switch from forward to reverse just fine.

I'm out in my 40 series torque converter straight to the reverse gearbox without using a bushing I just ordered a 5/8 bore driven clutch and then drilled and tapped the shaft to hold it in place. They also have the new 40/780 series torque converter reverse gearboxes, I own both and this new one is awesome!
Good evening Warren! So I did conversion with the same forward reverse set up you did, including the torque converter directly on the gearbox.... when I go into forward or reverse, I keep breaking the chain. My idle is all the way down... any ideas on a fix or what I screwed up?

What sort of speed do you get out of the cart? How do you get around the gear down of the forward/ reverse gear back? I am assuming you have it installed backwards to offset the rear end orientation?
i blew the forwards gear out of my gas yamaha gas cart and with the parts being $680 for an input shaft and the forward gear being discontinued i figured go live axle with this box i got the gear box from ebay said 2-16HP for $172 but theres other videos saying the 420 will break it so im glad to see thats not true for me ill run it if it fails it will only be $172 to replace the whole gearbox the stock transaxle lasted 650km in 3 years no maintenance so i should be good
Is it possible to get shaft out without a press? Looking at doing a 125 cc 4 wheeler engine so it will have 3 gears forward and a reverse. Just not sure of best way to hook it to differential. But I like how the block bearing was added on yours

I'm getting ready to put that motor in a Chinese electric car and looks like I'll have to do about 95 % exactly how you did...even the removing of the electric motor shaft...can you post about how you got invested in just the motor,gearbox,conversion project? Nice looking build, I've got an almost identical setup on a sxs atv. You said that you put a bushing on the driven pulley to bring it out farther, could you explain what you meant or what kind of bushing? I'm having trouble building a decent mount for mine that covers pretty much everything you said: minimal chains to maintain/adjust, adjustable engine mount plate for belt tension, etc. I hadn't even considered extending the input shaft on the gearbox, and my driven is installed the same as yours. Jackshaft really seemed unnecessary and I'm glad to see yours is successful.
i would recomend you put a big spring holding the front of the rear engine/axle subfram upward to relieve tension from the leaf springs. i have a similar 212 golf cart build

Update... I ordered a split bushing with key and it works great to make up the difference in shaft and driven pulley/clutch bore BUT the length of the FNR shaft is the same length as the width of the driven pulley/clutch so there are no visible shaft threads to secure the nut and washer to. Did you have to bore and tap the FNR shaft to secure it the same way the drive pulley is? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
I really need to find a gearbox for cheap. I'm surprised at how loud yours is even with the muffler. I just have a Chinese shorty header that points down with a small silencer and its about the same loudness as yours.
I just came from eBay. They're $104 with free shipping. That seems much cheaper than the last time I had checked on a reverse buggy gear box. Two orphaned , starved , and cold , pitiful followed me home within the past year. Both are , or usta be electric. Well one would probably still run ok , but the charger is shot , and batteries are swelled up. It was driven to where I picked it up. Anyway I'd rather just have them be gas , that way if they don't work , at least I know what to do to them to get them running on the fly.

electric to gas is always the right direction to go with a golf cart. A new engine is cheaper than a set of batteries
Same gear box on my Manco cart. Filled it to about 3/4 Inch from fill cap. I don't see how it can blow a seal out since the box is vented.

Driven clutch is backwards so when you rev it up the belt will run crooked.

How many tooth sprocket did you use for your differential? What size is the stator shaft? IS it 1"? Why didnt you just get a 1" bore sprocket?

where did you find the torque converter belt # 203789? I have not been able to find one. what size metal did you use to mount your motor on?
You did it just like I did but, I found a splined bushing and welded it to a 3/4 " shaft.
At least your motor is not surging they are bad about that had to drill jets on both of my 13 horse power motors.

I threw the stator of the motor into a fire pit and let it cook for about 2 days and all the plates slid right off!
