No one can deny she's talened with language. Artful.
I love the way she talks, it's really enjoyable
she's now been replaced by two doubles
You mean with a fake British accent? She’s from Michigan. Lol. She’s insane!!!
All the Americans say she has a British accent, but us brits just hear American.
That’s cuz her attempt at speaking British accent is so bad . It’s like me trying to speak wit a Scottish accent 😂😂
@@Emolga6274I just hear a slight twang, which is normal for a person who constantly interacts with people with a certain accent. She speaks with an American accent with just a slight hint of RP. Don’t think she’s faking.
She doesn't sound British to me at all. She probably does have a slight touch of British accent, maybe due to her interaction with different accents in her trips.
I feel so sorry for her, she tried to do an amazing thing and she was (as always) met with nothing but criticism and disdain. I can imagine that as privileged as she is, it can sometimes be very difficult to be Madonna.
With her health she can buy the whole country and save everyone living there.
ur a fucking moron. madonna is an anorexic bitch who cant play guitar
@@lepetitchat123
Wealth not health I know what you're trying to say
I miss this Madonna so much 🥺
Madonna is really timeless.
she knew she was going on the BBC so she started speaking more clearly and eloquently doesn't mean it's British
It’s definitely British
@@Emolga6274 clearly spoken doesn't mean an English accent. Are you a Brit?
Intelligent, generous and very inspiring woman! God Bless!
I adore Madge - real Queen of Music!!! I can listen to her albums over and over and over again
2024 here… great interview. Love Madonna ❤
If you're in a certain region for a while, being around the local people will eventually rub off on you. My friend from Chicago lived in Texas for about 7 years. When she left TX, she pretty much was saying "y'all," "fixin," and other Texan phrases with a slight drawl. So, I believe a person can acquire some type of accent being in an area for an amount of time.
I do really love this interview. Because I love her accent, her look, her VOICE and she looks absoloutely gorgeous!!!!
She’s from Michigan. Her accent is fake! 😂
And look at David now - he’s turned into a lovely young man and the fact he’s a Prince fan now too - makes me even happy for them
Let's fly together ❤️
She's trying so hard to keep the fake accent up! It's hilarious!
Why fake? She is American and she's speaking with an articulated American accent
It's not fake . If you move and live amongst others who speak differently you'll start to change the way you speak. Slowly but surely and the younger you are the more quickly and more effective it will take place. Human beings naturally will reflect someone in a conversation. Especially if you're affirming what they're saying it will manifest physically has a mirroring. It's a means of fitting and being relatable is human nature. Entirely subconscious. Body language experts will confirm all of this and in much greater detail. If you care to know that is..
But if you don't... its Dust in the Wind.
She no longer lives in America. She has lived overseas for many many years now. She probably just developed a slight accent being over there for so long. I was born and raised in NJ, but i moved to Mississippi for about 3 years when i was 13. While there i picked up a slight southern accent. It happens, people.
After reading some of the comments about her accent here, for awhile there, she had made England her home. If you are in an environment for awhile, that culture and its speech are going to start creeping into you. When I moved to Los Angeles from Chicago, people here told me I had a "mid-west accent". I was never aware I had any accent at all. Now, after living here for some time, my mid-west friends say I have a California twang to my speaking and I was unaware of that, too. So, it DOES happen.
She sounds so nervous at the beginning
Her diction was very good, but that was still am American accent.
Good. I can't stand British accent.
There is no such thing as a British accent.
I LOVE MADONNA. She says the word, "Granny" beautifully :) I think she is absolutely gorgeous! Ageless beauty and grace!
When you're in a particular country for a good chunk of time you do start to pick up on their accent a little bit and unknowingly start to have a bit of an accent yourself. I have a friend in Los Angeles who moved her from Texas. He had a thick southern country accent when he moved here, now it's almost gone after being in L.A. for only a couple years.
@CrazyForNYCLights she is from Bay City Michigan. She went to high school in Rochester, just north of Detroit. I know because my English teacher taught her there.
❤️❤️🙂 Nice interview
@CrazyForNYCLights Madonna was born and raised in a split level in Bay City Michigan and moved to NY when she was 19 and worked at a doughnut shop !
If I was rich and famous rock star, I'd speak the queen's english too
By the way,
digitalavatar74 ...
Gillian Anderson isn't British. She was born in the States, in Chicago and also lived in Michigan...she was my neighbour.
She lived in the U.K. for a short time while she was in school until she was eleven...before returning to the U.S.
It sounded a lot like an English accent. Much love for Madonna.
Er.. as far as I know, Madonna's mother tongue IS English, so your argument still makes no sense. Young children pick up local accents very quickly and easily, not adults. Simple as that. Besides, she still spends lots of time in the US and is surrounded by many Americans. She is putting it on as part of her many reinvention exercises. No need for a far-fetched linguistic explanation!
No it does not. Madonna has always had a really posh English accent. Gfy. @@patriot1151
@parachuteboi - Well... She was definitely born in Detroit, but her father is Italian and her mother is French/Canadian. So, she has European blood all the way. And, also if she talk like that… Probably, it's because she lived in The United Kingdom for almost a decade. Because she’s music royalty, because she’s the world’s greatest female artist of all time and The Queen Of Pop.
Her accent feels more like a modern transatlantic accent
Bottom, line, she is a nice person, and an icon, she gave a poor, orphaned boy a wonderful life. He will be a very happy, privileged and loved little boy.
Good luck to her and Guy.
I respect her fully.
Why should Madonna have to explain herself?
She is doing an amazing thing, who are we to say whats right, whats wrong about a situation we dont know about?
you are so right with the accent - having lived in france for only a few months my English suddenly had a slight French accent just because your "tongue" is so used to French sounds.
just bein with pplfrom a certain region within your own country and spendin lots of time with him or her - makes you sometimes adopt some of that language without you livin there!!
so only someone who hasnt travelled would oppose what you said.. rgds
She's doing her job - giving Madonna a chance to respond to the critics and put her viewpoint out there. You need to be a bit more mature, kiddo and think things through rather than going off the deep end.
hi; yeah I have an Aunt that married in New Zealand and resided there... in three months time she developed an accent - She's from the Philippine Islands
I'm sorry papa preached 😢
Only Madonna could appear on Newsnight with drapes, petals and gothic candles.
I can't believe all the crap she got for her English accent! I live in Chicago but one trip to texas for a week has me talking with a South West accent!! People are wired to assimilate with their surroundings, there is nothing to it!!
Then why doesn’t Chrissie Hynde have an English accent? She’s lived there since the 70s!
But she came back to America, and she still faking the British accent
I'm American and she sounded pretty darn American to me. What was it in this that was supposed to sound British?
she sounds scottish
Everyone tends to pick up inflections, phrases and words, and styles of speaking based on the people around them. That's just a fact. People need to realize that and understand that she's not trying to do a British accent, it's just how she's changed since marrying Guy and spending time in Britain.
exactly, that happens to me a lot in my own language and in foreign languages.
Well, Madonna said in an interview "most people would suffer for the things they love". In this case she is willing to suffer for Mercy as she did for David.
@polkakonigin what's even MORE ridiculous is to be SURPRISED by this shift of audience focus. she's from fucking bay city, michigan. you don't expect people to be distracted by her affectation?
Speaking to the BBC is daunting enough without a British public becoming preoccupied about how she pronounces her words incorrectly. American English and BBC English are two different languages, and I think she did a fine job speaking in a language that BBC viewers understand. If she spoke in her native New Yorker accent, people would not take her seriously.
She was not born in New York.
Guys is just ridiculous that you keep mentioning the "english accent" of Madonna!
Is simply natural that if you have been living in a different country for longer than 10 years you would slightly change your way of speaking! You would probably be at least antisocial if your accent wouldn't change at all...Having relations with people who speak in a different way is normal to get a different accent after a while!
Well if you paid attention you would see this was in 2008. She did not move to Britain full time until a couple years after she got married in 2000. So she had only lived their since about 2002. Last time I did math that is 6 years not longer then 10. Also when ever she came back to the USA that slight accent vanished & sometimes it would be a NY accent & other times just plain American. Just like when she threatened to blow up the white house she had zero accent. She has turned out to be a phoney like so many other entertainment stars.
CAORUvideo lol true. I dont get the big deal. I stayed for a month and a half in Melbourne and I noticed myself picking up verbal mannerisms of the locals like the way they sys "yeeehhh" as an expression of assent, and felt like I was even mimicking the way they pronounced some words. When you spend everyday speaking with people who talk a certain way, you're eventually going to adopt their way of speaking if only for ease od communication. Many Americans get all prickly about immigrants not "speaking English" but then when fellow Americans attempt to sound like a local elsewhere in the word they get mocked and disparaged quite harshly. Whats with all the judging?
After a few months in another country, there is a tendency to pick up the accent. It's natural.
@NickKhivren I agree with you! I speak 2 leguages, and I do never use the accent that I use with my friends that the one that I use when I talk with my grandparents. We are always changin our accent depending who you are talking to, and we don't reliaze that. But why do we critizie her? because she is Madonna?!!... what the hell are we paying atention to? Instead to see the pont of the interview!
I think that she did the right thing with adopting David and other children. She gave them a great life and if David stayed in Malawi then he would life in a poor society. However I think that it´s important that David knows where he came from and I think that he deserves to have some kind of contact with his biological father in Malawi (dont know if he has contact with his biological father). Personally I have nothing against Madonna and I think that she has done a lot of humanitarian work that people don´t give her credit for (she has helped financially with building schools and a hospital in Malawi), which is a shame.
Headstrong
@moroney1 actually, I am interested, is Northern Ireland a lot like the rest of Ireland, is it a seperate country?

144p xD I wander who was the technician from the BBC who did that.
It was uploaded 12 years ago.
@@Juandomngz 12 years ago I had 360p and 480p videos I would encode myself... And I was a teenager. The BBC had HD content for sure but the extreme minimum expected would be a low 360p video

people talk but not action Madonna did the right thing God bless you
I see now where Moriah from Schitts Creek got her accent lol
F the haters I love you MADONNA:)
You can't possibly get more British than American singer Madonna
Smart and rich woman.
(continued...) Have you ever moved to another part of your country, where the regional accent is different? Give yourself about three months and the people who knew you before you moved would swear you'd picked up a strong accent! This is about 20 years of world travel talking.
bjork lived in england for a while and picked up an accent. she's icelandic. i think maddie's "accent" is partly contrived and partly because of her surroundings. btw people madonna has been using that accent since soon after the girly show. check out the footage.
We are both stubborn
i lived in france for 60 years . and i cant even speak any french words . :P
ridiculous that a human being has to explain and justify an adoption, its a wonderfull brave thing to do to adopt a child im adopted myself, more families should do it
shit like this can happen , my mom moved to america and in a year she had a full american accent..
Love how midlantic she sounds here :-)
i think that everyone should keep the accent they have and not try to change it just because they think it sounds smarter. that is just my opinion.
Well she did live in theUK for years and overtime as you live in area with a different dialect you will adapt pieces of that new dialect into your own original one.
Why are people always trying to "break" Madonna in interviews? is it jealousy or just cruelty?
It is true that Madonna always spoke like this.
is there a reason, BBC, why this video is such low quality? 144p...
It’s 16 years old
I love her
MADONNA'S ACCENT KILLS ME! lmfao!
A well articulated / Educated American accent? 😂 why?
Listen to somebody with an english accent and then show me similarities to madonna. I really would like to know know what it is some people "hear" out there...
She still sounds american, just because her enunciation is clear and pronounced doesnt mean its an english accent.
It’s not an English accent it’s her attempt at an English accent, which makes it sound so ridiculous
G'DAY, MATE!
@jason854656 I don't think that was the case with Madonna. I think she was consciously trying to take on the English accent because now I guess she's proud of her Michigan heritage because she's not speaking with the English accent anymore...
what's with the audio going out?
It's not an accent. If anything, since her rise as a celebrity, and now living among upper class British, she's likely become sensitive to the importance of annunciation. I'm neither a fan nor a detractor of Madonna, but I credit her for more than once pointing out that when all is said and done, she is still a girl from Detroit.
@christolz i remember her old interviews where she says TANKS instead of thank you lol.
@moroney1 England is on the island of Great Britian, Northern Ireland is on the island of Ireland. In America sometimes we call you british if you live on the island of great britian.
@nosaintjerome You're right. I don't really even hear that much of an accent though.....so not sure what the big deal is in the first place. My aunt grew up here in the states and married a man from Enland and moved there. After only like a year or two she had a full blown accent as well. It was a trip, but definitely not an act. It happens just like when your around friends a lot who use certain words that you start using because of them.
MADONNA great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its easier to listen to how she says something than to listen to what she says
i think as a women trying to act British its harder than a man. that just me.
@nayshia89 Madonna is from Michigan.
@ritter89 my thoughts exactly thought i thought she did start using the accent right after the girlie show.
I would rather watch French and Saunders parodying this than actually watching the real thing...
at least they have talent.
What's up with the British accent creeping in and out? Girl please!
I have been watching way too much Doctor Who cuz I can't hear any accent at all
I LOVE YOU MADONNA!!!!!!!
DreamClaws? Did you see the cloud of chiffon on the floor? Who could walk in that without falling on their face? I keep waiting for Marianne Faihful to enter & start singing.
The whole thing around her accent really irritates me when people mock her - anyone with half a brain knows that if you live in another country you pick up dialects and here she has been living in U.K. for at least 5 years 🙄
thats it girl fight for what you belive x
I love Madonna so much, l just wish she wasn't currently a characture of herself...😭💔
Well, the sincerity in the voice comes and goes, but she does seem moved by the whole experience.
This is funny
@ghettokhanacademy she's from new jersey...look it up...
oh im such an english lady
