Im a beidou main and I think she is one of most lost potential character. Her burst hass one of worst mechanism, having a minimum and maximum numbers of enemies. U need min 2 and max 4 character for her burst to perform. Her burst already has an aoe so having max no of enemy is stupid.

    • @chadachi3970
      @chadachi3970 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

Personally I think Beidou has design issues due to how her focus looks like it should be the counter, but in actuality her burst is the real hard hitting part of her kit. They did it much better with Yunjin since that's all Yunjin has for personal damage and they added the work around of just holding it for longer if you can't be bothered to time it.
I remember seeing Beidou counter do like 70k during the first 2-3 months of the game and that being so awesome, now it's so focused around how her burst works and it's so uninteresting. As someone said before, it also plays around a cap, 2 enemies minimum and 4 max for good dps, any less or more then your damage falls off so hard you might as well not use Beidou.
Fischl is op in ST so you'd think "Oh Beidou is better in AoE right?" when in fact she's best at 2 enemies... which is a sizable dps increase from Fischl but is it really enough to matter? I think the only thing saving Beidou right now is the fact that there isn't a better AoE 4* Electro unit, unless you count Kujou Sara being able to hit like 120k on her burst or c6 Lisa hold E doing like 150k with proper set up lol
But yeah, Beidou is really cool, her counter is really cool, but it's not even that good. It's a mechanic you have to learn to play around for less reward than just pressing Q then swapping to Ayato/Childe lol

Before i watch the video. Here’s my personal take on what makes a character well designed, in terms of their kit (well designed=/=strong or meta in this case. Unfortunately you can have an amazing kit but still be weak if your numbers are bad)
A well designed character kit to me, is one that has a clear direction and intent, and one that follows said direction. A character that’s focused on one goal in mind and that ties together to reach said goal. The two examples that i can think of off the top of my head are Raiden and Yanfei. Both vastly different in power levels but in common with the fact that they have a very well thought out kit. Raiden’s entire kit centers around ER, batterying your team while also doing good damage. And her kit ties into that perfectly. From Her ascension stat being ER, her Her Q’s energy restoration mechanics and numbers, her A4 further amplifying her damage and energy restoration. You can tell Hoyo knew exactly what they were doing with Raiden.
Yanfei is also a very well designed kit imo but one that is just lacking in power. She’s meant to be a Charge atk DPS through her scarlet seals mechanics, and again. Everything about her kit, just all comes together to fullfil that goal. Scarlet seals increasing charge atk damage and reducing it’s stamina cost, etc. those two character kits are very cohesive and logical with their main objective. No random tacked on ascension passives (looking at you, Yae), no out of place abilities. Everything makes sense

    • @seansaechao1798
      @seansaechao1798 2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

As someone who used Yan Fei to carry my team from mid-late game, I think that her kit is fantastic. Everything in her kit is there to support her stacking scarlet seals for maximum charged attack damage. Her elemental skill, burst, constellations, and ascension passives cohesively come together to make her a charged attack focused main dps. The only thing that holds her back is her numbers, but she has one of the most cohesive kits in the game imo.

Childe, Dilluc, Kazuha and Yanfei always stood out to me as well designed characters. Childe IMO is the most unique character and embodies the theme of Genshin's party combat system. He is like the perfect member. He boosts your teams Attack by one talent, hydro element can be used offensively or as a support for other elements. And finally his unique Skill cool down implements swapping between characters. Dilluc is well thought out, even if he is power crept. Nothing needs to be said about kazuha, anemo is great for CC, 40% VV shred and elemental damage boost from his kit makes him one of the best supports in the game. Yanfei's entire kit is very well made, all of her mechanics work perfectly. She's only held back by the fact she is a 4*.

I think that this what should make a well designed main dps, is a trade of power the main dps has and cons/ requirements it has. For example: Tartaglia is extremely flexible due to stance change and element, very powerful against crowds, he has literally quadratic scaling on his riptide against multiple opponents, but to make you take advantage of this feature, you must learn how to manage coldowns and have crowd control party members.I think that Xiao good example of very well designed main dps character as well. He is very good main dps, despite being anemo, which is both his biggest advantage and disadvantage, it makes him jack of all trades, master of none when it comes to fighting almost every kind of enemy or elemental shields. He will shred through every shield quickly using his anemo plunge attacks, but not as quickly as other main dps with elemental advantage to that type of shield type. His burst gives him really huge buff, but it has a it's price, energy and health drain cons. Ninguang as geo main dps has similar advantages to Xiao, geo is good against everything almost, but isn't the best against anything. Diluc is another exaple, hr doesn't really gets any buffs from his kit besides pyro infusion, but he is pyro and uses claymore so he can utilise reaction really well and destroy shields easily due to weapon type, but to do that he need hydro supports. There are more well designed main dps characters like Itto and Ayato, but it would take long time to explain each of them. There are also characters like Hu Tao and Ganyu destroyed that trend of this trade of. Hu Tao is good example of case when character has such trade of, but it's unequal. Her gameplay is risky, but buffs she receives are too high for that. Her elemental skill infusion shouldn't be as powerful or should introduce another restriction other than taking some health, but she her design concept is really good in it's core. Ganyu on other hand has very safe gameplay, so she can send spam nuke charged attacks from her bow safely, has dash/taunt+application of cryo on her elemental skill and her burst makes her good as support. But there is no justification for such power. No real restriction or requirement. Even Hu Tao has a requirement in her kit, that tries to justify her power. Ganyu has none. Bow gives her easy infusion and safe range she can attack from sending charge attacks with enormous scaling, basically better version of Mona's elemental skill what makes her good cryo applicator and burst is also very good for support. Raiden is broken too, even more than Ganyu, but Raiden is broke because of her design, she is archon so she has to have some kind of broken utility. Venti has the best crowd control and is excellent debuffer, with very neat energy recharge capabilities, also provides a lot of exploration benefits Zhongli has the best shield in entire game making you invincible, has very good nuke that grands also freeze reaction like crowd control, destroys geo shields and ores easily, shreds resistances even those rare as geo and anemo and buffs all geo constructs. Raiden is best battery in whole game, very good main dps at c0 and the best in the game at c3. She is very good in all kind of teams that need energy and additionally can easily outdps your main dps.

Honestly they should shorten his Q duration and decrease the energy required to use it, in a way so it stays the same as now it justs lasts shorter so it can be buffed for its full duration also hoyoverse literaly hates Xiao, Yunjin and Heizu were rumored to be "anemo gorou's" but they werent, geo has a good offensive resonance, giving us an anemo gorou a better anemo resonance will mean a lot to Xiao and possibly another Anemo main dps in the future

I consider Beidou as one of Genshin's well-designed characters in terms of lore, gameplay, and power level. For the lore, she is pretty much a very strong person that carried herself from being a nobody to where she is today, earning the respect of her crewmates and pretty much most of the people in Liyue. Gameplay-wise, I personally enjoy it the most ever since I got her. While the game is arguably easy, it incentivizes you from observing the enemy's attack patterns by timing in your E counters, a rewarding play style. Her burst does a lot of damage in a situation where there are multiple enemies, which is most of the time. Because of this, she solidify herself in taser teams. And finally, when it comes to power level. She is overall a solid unit that doesn't take-over any character's role whatsoever, since she contributes to the whole team by doing on-field and off-field damage while being almost flexible when it comes to team combinations. The only problems I could think off about her are single enemy DPS drop, doesn't work with Raiden, and energy issues.

    • @tgr3423
      @tgr3423 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Regarding Raiden-Beidou, I tend to stagger their Bursts so they don't interfere with each other. I will always run Xingqiu with them, since his Burst is pretty much permanently up due to how much energy generation Raiden provides. It can feel a bit clunky, if you aren't used to an "unclean" rotation, but they can work. You just have to be mindful that Beidou's Burst and Raiden's Burst can't proc each other. It does give a near 100% Electro-charged reaction uptime with Xingqiu, which is bonkers for large mob packs. But then we start getting into Electro problems, not character issues, where it's the weaker single target Element compared to Cryo/Pyro.

For me, the character needs a sort of combo. Obviously I want them to be fun to play, pretty to look at, and a story that creates a connection. However, I also want them to contribute something to my existing team, and whether they are worth the time I have invested in the game. All characters will eventually be powercrept, but I still look out for the more optimal picks of the bunch. Really, personality can only do so much for me since I intend to use them often. Hence they need not only be fun but effective in their role. Otherwise I start comparing them to others and question whether it was worth the primogems.

I like Physical DPS but truth is her Electro carry teams are genuinely very good, as a old player of her its what i'd typically recommend for easy/efficiency of clearing all the content, with Phys being more for showing off or having fun. Point with this is her variety for being played on field is wider, includes a lot more variation then some give it credit. Phys, Electro, and Hybrid i've encountered atleast half a dozen team types that are good enough i'd easily call them viable (Phys Hyper with Yun Jin, Hyper Electro with Sara, Taser on field with a off field anemo or pure superconduct which is where Hybrid build shines, various overvape teams, and hot pot/soup driver.)
This all being while any on field play with her is basically a option, but its a easy to make work option even if its not her more definitive calling as a SubDPS.

Her normal attacks boosts her charge attack damage through her seals, her skill boosts her charged attack damage through seals, and her burst also buffs her charged attack through seals while also giving them a flat attack boost for when you cast her seals. Her passive talents also further builds on her charged attack damage, and her constellations help negate all the issues Yanfei has for being a charged attack unit, her c1 and and c6 reduces her weak point being stamina, her c2 increases her overall damage with her charged attack and her c4 helps her get rid of the issue of her being vulnerable while she charge attacks. Her entire kit is tailored for one specific thing which is why it's so intuitive to use her as she only has to work on one thing, damage

10:25 Now that's what I was thinking about whether or not characters like Zhongli, Bennette and Xingqiu are completely invalidating other characters, due to them having extremely overpowered kits that breaks the game in half and makes it too easy.
In any RPG, I was fascinated by the three holy trinity of roles: DPS, Tank and Healer. Each and every one of them are designed with a purpose of with a situation you are in and not so much the necessity of only one. In my eyes, these roles should do what they do best at and trying to become the other, because it defeats the purpose of flexibility. That's why I find it frustrating how the game is revolving more on DPS rather than defense and healing because it begs the question of why needing them while you can just defeat the enemies with sheer brute force.
In League of Legends, the reason why I absolutely hate carry supports is because they go against the rule of what a support should do: for enchanters and tank supports they should either heal, shield or act as a meat-shield to defend their characters, without dealing any huge amounts of damage for themselves. And this isn't just for supports, but the gameplay environment also, where everything is fast-paced and snowbally where you can just beat the game without being defensive all the time or even need a healer.
And before you say that I want DPS to be nerfed to the ground or make it one of the worst roles of all time, no, because that will also invalidate the need for them also.
In short, when you implement the three holy trinity you should give each and every on of them equal justice and respect, and NOT treat one of them as if they are your "favorite child". More people and even gaming companies should appreciate and understand the importance of Tank and Healer more, rather then just milk DPS dry.
Remember, there are times when you need to be patient instead of rushing in without thinking. Think brains, not brawns.

What I want to see is to introduce more enemies who are aggressive, smarter and that hit you harder, have attacks that you can barely avoid with dashing and even prevent your movement, have block periods that prevents you from doing any damage to them while it unleashes heavy blows to you or can affect your health through shield like the corrosion status.

But I on the other hand don’t see it. Yes, it is fun to one-shot everything with all the big damage numbers. But do you have fun when you are tanking almost anything or heal so much too?
Just because the tank and healer don’t deal huge amounts of damage the DPS, nor the intention of doing so, does not mean they should abandon for what they are good at. And it’s especially true when you only put DPS at top tier while tank and healer is at bottom tier just because they deal no damage, which is very wrong to begin with and only lead to misconception. And the Chinese community are quick to point out that they say something like “skip this character it sucks!” And I’m like “So what? Is it because they deal no damage? Is that what you think? I would say Itto and Ningguang are well-designed characters for my standard. I would say Noelle but she have that glaring issue of lack of energy generation+high burst cost so No, she ain't. But Ningguang and Itto have a chance. They are good DPS doing their job well and requiring a decent amount of investment, not too much but also not too little. And they have a support that is dedicated for them: Gorou. Their damage are decently high as individual (without relying on team comp). Honestly I can't find a problem with their kit, except that they are GEO which is the most neglected element in the game.
Btw, I agree that Diluc and Sucrose are the most well-designed character in the game and they were released as a complete character from the very start. They are released with specific artifact set dedicated for them, dedicated weapon, and well-defined stat priority.

I'd actually disagree on Ningguang being well-designed, for a variety of reasons. But a big one is that Gorou is not a support for her at C0, and you're better off bringing another character. He even barely counts at C6.
Ningguang, as a whole, feels very self-contradictory with how many elements of her kit fight against the rest. She's a catalyst where her reactions are unimportant, and she can't use Widsith well. She's a Geo character who can't benefit from DEF, or enable Geo resonance. She's a 4* Main DPS, which means she doesn't have the personal damage to compete with the 5* DPS.
She's also one of the only characters where her best artifact set is double 2-set pieces, and that already sends up some red flags about her design, since I'd say no other character that actively avoids having a complete artifact set is well-designed.
Unless I'm missing something, she doesn't really have much team variety either. Her best teams will all be Yun Jin/Bennet/Flex. Maybe change Yun Jin to also include Zhongli and Albedo.

And being reliant to constellation, other players consider non-C6 Noelle as lackluster, I would argue with them, but the fact that non-C6 Noelle cant compete with other DPS nor Support in the utilities she have shows that there is something wrong on her kit. Dont get this wrong, Noelle is my favorite character in all of Genshin, but really her kit wasnt well-designed enough.
Meanwhile for Ningguang, I just find her kit as well-balanced and despite needing common supports (Bennett and Zhongli), her own damage still lives up even without them, it isnt as much as 5star though. She doesnt rely on constellation that much. Her role as a 4star DPS that deals enough damage even without relying to reaction. My standard for well-designed and balanced character is a character that brings enough utility, not too much nor too little and still relies on a team but not too much. Ningguang and Itto lives up to that, they are decent and strong Geo DPS that gives enough damage. they are strong without being broken but also have flaws without being too hindering.

Personally i think it's a bad idea long term to skip characters you really like just for meta. When you do 36 star abyss, what will you have after all is said and done? 4 stars are good enough to clear, you just need time and investment. And at least some 5 stars you like should add some power to your account, even if it's not peak power. Even if they don't add power, you can just not build them too much till you max clear
Also with artifacts, do away with the idea you need BiS sets on everyone. Use an optimizer and you'll be surprised how much power you have in your artifacts. Now, if you're too new to the game, you may just have to farm more. And ofc get those talents up. Bad rng over a long period of time becomes statistically unlikely. Also, ppl often don't realize how good their substat efficiency is. Easier to let the computer do the thinking for you

And even if you are struggling it’s very easy with almost any units to at least 33* abyss and if you are getting 33* then you’re only missing out on 50 primos every 2 weeks, which really isn’t a whole lot, pulling for meta characters just to clear abyss is draining primos for characters you like far more than just ignoring abyss all together. I am a Kaeya main. I chose to overwork in the building department once I saw that guy coming my way. His personality was the reason I loved him and this game. However, recently I got Ayaka on my alt acc. And even though she's better in the dps department (by sheer numbers) I surprisingly found out that I still like playing on my main with Kaeya more. The main reason to this is, I guess, survivability. I don't have a dedicated healer in my party on my lower AR acc with Ayaka. I don't like Barbara's healing, because it freezes me to death, so I don't use her. So here's the deal: there to 5☆ characters in the party (excluding Traveler): Ayaka and Keqing. And they both like to die really quick. And I never have this problem with Kaeya, thanks to his passive. Second reason is the way I am used to play, however Ayaka and Kaeya differ not that much (the only difference is the sprint mechanic and everything it brings). What I'm saying is that... Those harder to build units can really pay off in the end and sometimes they need just a bit more. As example, Kaeya and Tartaglia. I have both as dps's on my main and they might require the same in the beginning: good 5☆ weapon (Skyward Harp for Tartaglia and Aquila Favonia for Kaeya, for example), good artifacts (luckily same domain), and a bunch of supports. But surprisingly for me, even though Childe gives better numbers he's a really pain to play. He has best broken supports in the game (Bennet and Zhongli) and a subdps (Jean right now) in his abyss party and still sometimes performs good but with a good amount of work. Kaeya on the other hand runs with Xingqiu, Chongyun and Venti and is a less pain in the ass because of his playstyle. Though, I might be biased. Tbh, I really would love to hear about all the characters I brought up, especially my mains. We'll be waiting for next week to learn what will it be. Thanks for your video!

Tartaglia's main strength lies in his nuke potential, not his DPS. If you want to use him on the field it is best to use him with Xiangling.
If Kaeya's passive is enough to keep you alive, then healing is not needed. Just use food. Kaeya does not heal too much and, tbh overworld monsters at low AR do not do too much damage. Plus Ayaka does a stupid amount of damage so you are likely to take down most monsters before they can fight back. But you can play however you like.

I want to mention that some characters seem to have inherently weird design choices. Yoimiya and Yae Miko are the 2 I'm talking about.
Yoimiya is a DPS that has an ultimate with exploding fireworks, yet somehow its a single target ultimate, which applies a debuff that Yoimiya herself cant proc, which doesnt make sense to me design wise. The artifact set that has her design, Retracing Bolide, only fits her if you have a character to constantly sheild her too, which is an odd design choice when you look at other characters and the sets that have designs that take after them, examples: Raiden and Emblem of Severed Fate, Kokomi and Ocean Hue.
Yae Miko has such beautiful attack animations and a really cool looking charge attack, yet shes released as a sub-dps you use quick swap style, without using any of her normal attacks, and yet again for some reason requires insane field time for her damage rotation like a standard dps. Her totems give her a dash, which has no invulnerability frames, and combined with needing to cast it 6 times in a rotation results in getting hit and feeling clunky. Her rotation requires casting 3 totems, destroying them with her ultimate, and then casting them again, taking insane field time when really her design could have refreshed the totems duration on ultimate cast like Komomi rather than destroying them. Her design makes it seem like she should have been an electro DPS, but maybe changed later down the line to be a sub-dps. The artifact set that has her design, Shimenawa's, doesnt even fit her at all as it seems to be designed for an on field DPS that relies on normal and charged attacks, which could also further suggest design changes to Yae Miko.

Yoimiya is one of the characters who needs a shield the most, imo. I'd sooner not use a shield for Hu Tao than for Yoimiya. Reason being, her damage is backloaded - most of her damage lies in the later attacks in her Normal Attack combo, so you really don't want the combo to be interrupted by either getting hit by enemy attacks or needing to dodge them. That said, I personally play her with 4-pc Crimson Witch in a Melt team :D

The least intuitive thing about his kit is his elemental skill. He is a physical carry so you prioritize his normal attack but his skill animation takes up so much time. A well designed character to me is one that is flexible and offers reasonable opportunities for synergy, such that there is possibility for emergent gameplay. In Genshin, that synergy includes not only between other characters in a team, but also between their own kit. Also, leveraging the fact that Genshin is a 3D action game is a huge bonus.
So in that regard, Jean is the best designed character in Genshin in my opinion. She has some clear synergy between her abilities: charged attack can put enemies into the air to set up for your elemental skill, and your elemental skill can push enemies out of your elemental burst for extra damage. And if you look at each skill individually, there's lots of flexibility or interesting ways to use her abilities. Charged attack can essentially stun enemies and is thus a form of crowd control. Her skill can induce momentum-based damage and reposition enemies and objects (e.g. Baron Bunny). And her burst heals and has a very cool self-swirl property (e.g. used for Sunfire). And to top it all off, it really feels like she leverages the fact that Genshin is a 3D action game by manipulating positioning and height.
Please note that I am not considering the character's element and associated perks (e.g. Viridescent Venerer for Jean) as part of their design, since otherwise how well designed their elements are would be too big of a factor. Like think about if Keqing and Diluc swapped elements, lol.
In my eyes, most other characters have a pretty rigid way to play them that hardly strays, if at all, from the developer's vision. Sure, maybe they didn't know the exact meta teams that Raiden Shogun would slot into, but her kit is still used as straightforwardly as possible as far as I can tell, and does exactly what she was intended to do (very well, at that). Not to say that it's bad design since she does function well, but it's just okay to me rather than good. Zhongli also suffers the same problem, and gets further points docked for having a flat -20% res debuff to all elements with no nuance.
Another failing for many characters to me is that oftentimes either their skill or burst are afterthoughts and hardly participate in their identity as a character; like one or the other are individually VERY weak reasons to use that character. For instance, Ayaka's skill or Albedo's burst. They don't do anything interesting, nor will you ever pick those characters for your team for those abilities alone (edit: I suppose Albedo's burst does give some EM to the team, but still a rather weak incentive when teambuilding esp with the current Geo design philosophy). Granted Ayaka has a special dash so maybe you could argue she has enough going on, but I personally hate when design space is used without offering of substance. It doesn't even have to necessarily be new (e.g. Yunjin's parry when Beidou's already exists), but I feel it's gotta have SOME kind of reason to care about it existing other than the bare minimum of giving energy and doing some damage.

    • @exiaax
      @exiaax 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, Albedo Burst and Ayaka skill are just extra damage. If Ayaka had a bigger stun for her skill, and Albedo burst healed or increased damage somehow, people would appreciate them more.

Genshin characters have 3 sources that determine their "playstyle"
    • Their kit and constellations
    • Artifact set
    • Weapon
A character having a "not well" designed kit can easily be balanced by their weapons and/or artifact sets
Amber paired with the Elegy, from a clunky character becomes a good elementa reactions support (especially vaporise)
Yanfei a well designed 4star pyro dps, with c4 and Prototype Amber becomes a healer, energy fixer and the best pyro shielder
Genshin has so much horizontal complexity that even "badly" designed characters can carve a niche

Its the Vanilla of roles. When in doubt, the jack of all trades will do the job just fine. For example, you cant go wrong with Jean. Are there better healers, CCs, nukes, resistance shreders and dps? Yes to all but you wont find a unit for all of those slots than her. She can go on any team for her anemo and the access to Veredesent gives her that push the DPs of the team. Her healing nuke allows her to go even on a Geo team and it does a decent damage at the same time. Her CC its decent enough and can dispatch a respectable damage if mastered well. All of those reasons its why, regardless of meta, she always stays at the middle of the charts.

I have a main roster of characters I enjoy clearing dailies and similar, however, I choose to use the characters I do have to 'roleplay' during events, for example during the second lantern rite Osial wife event I used Geo Traveler, Beidou, Xinyan and Venti (yes he's my main), for the odd fighting event in Liyue I chose a geo-based team with Geo Traveler, Ningguang, Noelle and Venti (because every adventure needs a storyteller), for the recent Irodori festival I chose Electro Traveler, Xingqiu, Ayaka and (yes) Venti. The list goes on (but I've forgotten the rest) but in the end, it's always nice to try out a character you've put aside for a while, kind of like using a new unit weak or strong, it's still quite the experience!

To say Sumeru, Fontaine, etc. characters will be stronger because Inazuma's characters were stronger than Mondstat is misleading. The EARLY Inazuma characters were very strong, but after Raiden/Kokomi they haven't pushed the power envelope. Notice that there's a significant drop off in power level after the early Inazuma characters. Ayato, Itto, Shenhe, and Yae are still good characters, but they're not on the level of Kazuha, Ganyu, Hu Tao, Shogun, Ayaka, etc.
Hoyoverse is being very careful with the powercreep of this game. If any powercreep happens with Sumeru, I'd imagine it's due to an accident of them overtuning Dendro reactions rather than a deliberate effort.

For me well designed characters could be identified when all of their qualities work with each other - from personality, to lore background, to abilities and passives, etc.
A good example is Hu Tao, as someone who is able to communicate with both the living and the dead it makes sense that she is strongest when she herself is close to death (below 50% hp) since she is treading the line between the living and the dead. Her personality also compliments her gameplay, you'd expect someone as chaotic as her to fight dashing and jumping across the battlefield which is what you exactly do with her charge attack cancels. Her color scheme and clothes also represents her well, the knots, the flowers, her hat, they all work to compliment what she is and what she does.
And of course on the other side is the opposite of what I just said, an example for this is Kokomi. Her personality, lore, and abilities don't really mesh well with each other. Why on earth do we have a master strategist character that does not have any form of buffs that enhances the parties capabilities? Sure, she has a heal which represents her being a priestess but she does not have anything in her kit that represents her being a master tactician. Yes, she can wield Thrilling Tales and 4-PC tenacity set but they are not part of her actual kit. I'm a first run Kokomi haver and I don't hate her, I just think that she's such a missed opportunity for Hoyoverse.

I think the best part about Hu Tao's design is mostly how well you are rewarded for learning how to play her, especially before c1. Your average new player will either do little damage from healing too much or running out of stamina. If they don't heal constantly, she'll just die all the time. Zhongli (or another strong shield) does take away from this. But when I first got her, I learned so much about how to play the game and with some practice and investment her numbers really pay off. Thematically her gameplay and story are very in sync as you say. All-round a great character imo. Plus her team building has some nice complexity to it if you aren't just looking at a guide.

"If a character is too strong, why bother building others". This is my problem for overpowered meta characters: Bennett, Xingqiu, Kazuha, Zhongli, Shogun. They trivialized the difficulty of the game from easy to baby game. Among this 5 I listed, only Bennett have the chance to be balanced just by virtue of fixing one glaring issue in his kit.
Zhongli and Shogun can't be balanced since they are meant to be OP.
Kazuha can't be balanced because his kit is completely made and the only issue is it's too perfect and the only way to balance it is removing a characteristic of his kit but would enrage the community if do so.
Same goes with Xingqiu but the problem with Xingqiu is they overpack his kit for no actual reason, everything about his kit is saying this is a overdesigned kit and you can't do anything about it.
Meanwhile Bennett is technically balanced at C0. There is a limit in his potential due to the 70% HP cap requirement for his Burst's effect to work. Some might hate me for saying this now but the only thing that can make Bennett balance is switching his C6 to his C1. Bennett's C1 is too overpowered for a first constellation, it removed the only barrier to Bennett that make him overpowered. for other character who did have that type of C1, it still make sense for them since their kit wasn't very packed but Bennett is. Making his C1 be his C6 would make a C1 Bennett be limited as a Pyro Support like other element's specific support: Sara, Gorou, and Shenhe. The current C6 Bennett is worst because his C1 removed his limitation and the C6 brings a limit to him again. If his C1 limits Bennett from the start, his new C6 would be more appreciated.

One aspect I like in games is giving the players ways of avoiding damage that aren't just use this big shield. The dodging mechanic in genshin is extremely bad as they limit you to 2 dodges before you can dodge again, but there are time when you want to dodge more than that. When you do dodge you need to release the movement key to stop the character from sprinting else you will burn through your stamina, but if you do you are staying still and assuming you don't have a shield, you are then going to be ragdolled till you dash out of the animation......buut if you have no stamina then you have to just take the ragdoll. And lastly the dodging mechanic in genshin is highly inaccurate as there are times when you can dodge an enemy's attack and other times when using the dash at the same time you will get knocked across the map and this last point is the most frustrating.
However I doubt that most player are going to notice these thing because 95% of the player base has zhongli and that gives Hoyo an excuse to not fix the dodging mechanic.

I have been maining him ever since. I love his gameplay and he still is my favourite character in Genshin Impact up to today. His kit is simple but interesting to use. Many people joke about his burst being "pogo stick simulator" but there is simply something amusing in decimating waves of enemies with just his plunges or simply being able to use him against almost all enemies, without any problems at all. I find it rather sad that he is falling off the meta for a long time now but it can't be helped.

but i personally play her with thoma and i imagine that she would also pair well with other off-field dpss like xingqiu, xiangling and now yelan
miko feels bad to play as a secondary fischl because her totems are more so designed for movement and increasing her overall damage the longer she's on field

I just saw a video about Yelan and if she is worth pulling for, and it made me realize something funny about Genshin players perception about the characters design: When considering meta picks and the spyral abyss, a character that isn't a main DPS taking more field time is considered a bad thing. So if you go with that logic, a well designed character is someone that you have to play as little as possible to get maximum value. I can't think of other games where people want characters that they don't actually get to play, just use bursts and swap.

Amber was a big one for me because I'm currently using her as a main staple of my team and have been for a like 2 weeks. I'd want to make her C2 naturally a part of her kit and make it so any changed atk not just a foot shot makes the BB explode. Second id move her C4 to be C2 and replace her c4. Not sure with what maybe a faint style skill like if she dies she drops a BB but im actually not sure it was just an idea. Id also maybe buff her 2nd combat passive but idk it just feels weak. A lot of characters could use minor tweaks to feel even just slightly better.
Also fun characters all the way I love team crafting and making niche builds. Healer Xingqui is the best thing I've ever done. His ability to crowd control is so absolute where either enemies are affected by it and he's effective and fun to use, or they aren't affected and playing him feels very bad. I don't feel it's much of him fitting into a niche as future enemies like Kairagi seemed to be designed around not letting players with Venti "cheat" the game and fight fairly. Other Anemo characters with CC suffer from this too but Venti most of all.

It would be cool to have the normal one that resets regularly but also several other ones which focus on different elements, weapons or even something like lore (Mondstadt Challenge which allows only characters from that region to participate. This could be done for every region).

It's necessary to have those op units because I feel like as a mostly free to play player (I bought like 4-5 Welkins) it would otherwise be nearly impossible to build enough characters to manage all the Abyss rotations, which is why those units are needed to bruteforce some of the Abyss content. I have both of these characters and I love playing both. And it is no competition that Ayato is the better unit. But… while he does better damage, he’s not as fun to play as Tartaglia. While Tartaglia has a lot of cooldown problems, it’s interesting to have to work around it, and he works wonderfully as a duel DPS (in fact, I’m looking forward to playing him with Heizou in the future for that reason). I have been using Ayato for over a month, and while he makes the game really easy, it feels too mindless… I like Tartaglia’s kit more because it’s more quick swap and versatile and his riptide mechanic is a whole lotta fun. In terms of well designed I really think everyone can agree that Ayaka was a pretty thought out character. Her kit, E skill, and burst works well, plus her damage output is pretty good, excluding her dash as it gets clunky at times, she’s a 10/10 dps.

It's unfair. Even her NAs and CAs have good scaling. And she has a passive that's similar to Heart of Depth's 4 piece effect.

@@ki_dochannel93 Her NA's are about 2 notches higher than Ayato's, just for reference (also considering her passives she's still kinda broken)

That’s a good point about Bennett. I like using him and he’s going to he a main stay on my team for a good long while, but him meshing well with literally every character by boosting their attack DOES take away from fun combos. I’ve had a hard time deciding whether to remove him from my team for a specific challenge/domain because there is no other combo of characters that consistently does what he does and that’s kind of the issue for me. Not to make the game totally unplayable mind you, but I recently got Yelan and I’ve been agonizing bc I want to have a four element team but I can’t because I’m using Diluc and Bennett who are both Pyro qwq. Honestly, I’m considering switching him out for Diona because she’s the only other leveled healer I’ve got.
Dunno if this made much sense, it’s just nice to see a take like this one.

I think Noelle is very well designed. Well, apart from maybe her energy recharge issues. I like to think that she’s the Mario of the roster. Well-rounded and balanced, and skilled at multiple things. While not the best in any of them, she performs well enough to be considered a goid choice. She can shield, she can heal, she can do damage, she can tank, she has a rotation-safe infusion, and she has some significant AoE in her burst. She truly is a wondermaid

The only issue is that she kinda needs c6 to do well. I have her there but I’m still very hesitant to build her because of her play style and the characters I have rn. She’s really good and I’ve seen what she can do at her full potential

Personaly I mostly enjoy unique playstiles mixed with reliability. For example my main team consists if Diluc, Beidou, Rosalia and Barbara. Depending on domains I might change any one of them to Sucrose.
Diluc and Rosalia being my two main sources of dps. Beidou both being a tank and a dps support with Overload and Superconduct. And Barbara being a hydro aplicator support and top tier healer.
I can reliably take on any type of enemy and tank most types of damage due to Barbara's healing. I have not yet farmed enough to just slay any domain yet but it's only a time issue tbh

Personality ofc, I'm a f2p player even so if I'm not having fun with a character it's bad in my opinion, also the characters actuall in game personalities is a huge factor in that

I still hate Shenhe. What they did to her constellations really got to me.
It feels like rather than designing Shenhe first then adding onto her kit with constellations, instead it seems as if they designed her then chopped massive pieces of her kit away to lock them behind constellations and that just pissed me off. It's like no one except whales will ever be allowed to play Shenhe the way she was originally designed to be played, and in a game where getting a C6 can cost thousands of dollars or literally years worth of primo's that's just something I can't accept.

@@killerspreet7318 No. Childe is just as good at C0 as he is at c6. He has 15% damage increase which is nothing. The only thing his constellation adds is an easier playstyle... Which is just a question of skill. Also qiqi... Nothing gets really added aside from a revive at C6 that nobody needs anyway.

As mush as people hated on Kokomi, I love her design. She brought something new to the game no other character had, which was her intended gameplay of being an all rounder between damage and healing through her split scaling. The closest battle healer we had was Jean, but Kokomi stood out with completely focusing on one stat, hp. She's a great character with a really unique kit and I feel like she's a refresher from the annoying crit ratios everyone's so obsessed with
