I'm surprised no one mentioned Victorinox SAKs, with alox handles. They certainly look more expensive than they are, they have that fancy, premium feel (opposite to plastic SAKs), and I've never met someone who's not proud owning one.
Hey DCA, I am a carpenter and use my knife all day for a variety of construction related tasks. I currently carry a Spyderco Delica in VG10. I like this knife but I’m looking for a faster opening method and maybe a slightly better steel. This knife will get dusty, used hard and sharpened often to keep the edge refined. I’d like to stay under $200. Thank you, this is an awesome series.
I work for Tyson in a manufacturing facility for tortillas we produce millions a month for everyone McDonald’s sonic del taco I mean everyone but the fine flour keeps gumming up my bearings on my 300 dollar knives the slacker field strip is perfect for me and my situation I’m so thankful you guys do these videos
Definitely check out the Zvord Peasant knife if you don't already know about them. The whole knife is held together by two screws and two washers. They're also cheap and really cool little knives
No doubt. Fox, MKM, Viper, Lionsteel, Giant Mouse all make great knives, but I don't think of any of them as being cheap. MKM especially makes excellent knives for the price, though.
Just picked up the Begg Steelcraft Series JVO Traditional Sheepsfoot, stainless steel handle, 14C28N blade, slip joint from the Knife Center at $31. Very good materials, great quality. Thanks KC.
My wish list is already long enough. You just added a tableful to it! I think the CKRT Symmetry falls into this category. I got mine on sale for $20. The Knifecenter version is really nice for $50. I got one for my wife. We love them.
I carry my knife in pocket (removing clips when they are included). I’m looking for an under $50 lock back. The main criteria is weight - I would prefer 2.0 oz, above 2.5oz is a no go. Thank you, kind sirs.
You could go a completely different way and get a very interesting historical knife which would make a great conversation piece. I recommend the German Mercator Black Cat, the Kaiser Wilhelm knife used in WW1 and still produced on the same machinery today. The French Douk Douk is something similar and although hand made in France was much used by freedom fighters in their colonies. Handmade Spanish navajas made in Spain can be a great option too. These kind of knives get screaming edges on their high carbon steels. They will need sharpening more often but they are simple to sharpen and will definitely make the owner a real hobbyist. They are very affordable too.
I really like Mercator-Knifes and have several different models from Otter. Also have a small Douk-Douk, strange shape, but an eye catcher. Unfortunately, good Navajo Knives are expensive, i only have a cheap basic model from Joker.
I love knives like this, either based on historical designs or have just been around for so long that they remain historical. Years ago i bought the Condor Otzi (based off the knife they found of a man they found frozen in the ice) because i read about him a lot growing up. Maybe a little more losely based on your suggestion i also picked up the Cold Steel Spartan because i love swords through history but cant practically carry one
DCA and Seth this is maybe the best vid u have done together in a long time. Excellent content and a great topic. Maybe do another one in midrange for same but with 150 limit? Or 200 limit? Wider range and would require more thought. Excellent content either way. Bravo sirs
My Al Mar Hawk with stag handles from a dozen years ago is one of the most beautiful knives I’ve ever seen. I added a leather lanyard with a snake vertebrae as a bead
So good to finally see some quality budget knife videos! I mean how many times can you watch videos of premiums and grails? Great video, nice to see you both in a vid!
Question: Could you like have a small micro fiber cloth on the table? So you don't heave to smear finger fat onto and all over the blade. Don't know about you guys, but I edc a small micro fiber cloth. It's just so handy and the new hanky. Or at least it's the blade guy's hanky.
I have a few knives from Chinese manufacturers but also from Benchmade and Chris Reeve. A knife that costs little but delivers incredible quality is the Bestech Ornetta with the black and red carbon fiber handle. The steel is a Böhler n690 and the workmanship is absolutely excellent. All for a ridiculous $140
Great topic. I’m pretty cheap, er, budget oriented…but I like nice stuff. The gist of this seems to be, as the title says, feeling of luxury for little money. As such, I wasn’t expecting “hard working knives” like the SRN or the second Petrified Fish. Glad to see them on the list. While I wouldn’t call them luxurious in appearance, they look like good candidates for pride of ownership. One of the first ones. (Name already slipped my mind) with the titanium bolster is gorgeous. Thanks for these excellent suggestions
SRM 9201 is really good, handy knife for the price. It is small, light, sturdy, it has (maybe surprisingly) good ergonomics and the blade holds on pretty good even while cutting trough a tough cartboxes.
Question for a future ep: is it possible to make an Executive or Gentleman's style knife with a sheepsfoot or cleaver blade? Or does the taller blade preclude that kind of design/ aesthetic?
I'd say kizer amicus for feel, as the button lock, flipper tab, jimping etc. All feels very premium to me for the price Possibly also the kershaw iridium as it also feels premium Lastly the new cjrb bowie pyrite with rosegold handle, i haven't held it but it seems awesome
l know there are a lot of great brands to recommend, but when I think of this question, two companies come immediately to mind: First is Civivi, which has never given me a knife I don't completely love. My first Civivi was a Praxis, and I still love it. I've added a couple of Conspirators, a couple of Elementums, and a couple of Cogents, and I gladly carry any of them. Second is Bestech. I started with an Eye of Ra and it feels like a very expensive knife to me. I recently got the push button tuxedo Swordfish, and while it's not super cheap, it certainly feels like a top of the line carry knife. However, my current EDC is my Bestechman Ronan with a 14C28N blade, a knife I am more comfortable with depending on to be absolutely reliable, functional, sturdy, and all around superb than any $50 should be. CRKT, Kershaw, CJRB, QSP, Vosteed, there are a lot of great companies, but Civivi and Bestech rise to the top in this category for me.
I saw several Rosecraft knives at Blade Show Texas a couple weeks ago, but silly me, didn´t bought any, that´s my only regret of the show, excellent knives for the price.
Hi. Great segment, thanks for sharing the knowledge. I need an hour glass in my collection. Any way, ..Tip up down, a bit polarizing. I do not really care, but tend to set to tip up, to keep my muscle memory the same. Have you tried, in tip up, works best on flippers, compression lock was decent, cross bar..okay, while in pocket slide thumb beside the knife deep in pocket, then use middle finger on end of clip to pull the knife out almost in position to open? Basically, just before removing the knife it is in a "ready to open" position. Once practiced, I think equal to most tip down carries, if the clip complies. Maybe not for true tactical deployment. Thanks again.
Hey DCA hey Seth. Do you have knives you've retired from your daily carry because they became irreplaceable/the company stopped production? I'd love to see some of your most treasured knives!
Hey David and Seth, I was wondering if there are any folding knives that work decently in grimy situations? I'm a landscaper and need a tough EDC that can handle some dirt (with care of course). I recently got a mini dozier and it love it, but it doesn't seem to like the dirt that accumulates in my pocket. I'm also open to being convinced to carry a fixed blade for work instead. Thanks!
The CRKT Slacker for me is odd. The ergonomics are great, I love the field strip system with it, and the coating on the aluminum is good as well. For some reason though, it doesn't cut like I want it to. Even laying back the angle more than you probably should for 1.4116, I feel like the blade geometry is just a bit obtuse. I was pleasantly surprised with the Petrified Fish Hourglass as well. I got the Sandalwood variant as well. If I had to nitpick it a little, I think there's a clear coat or something on the wood. I'm sure it's there to protect the wood, but you feel the gloss rather than the wood and feels a touch synthetic. For slipjoints, I do need to pick up a Rosecraft sooner or later. I have a couple modern models from them that CJRB/Artisan does for them, but no traditionals yet. I think I'd go for the Barlow. Boker amazed me with their Traditional 2.0 line. The couple I got were flawless in action, bone scales, mirror polished D2 blades and made in Germany rather than one of their Boker Plus partner facilities. Definitely worth the $45-60. The PF Forward isn't too bad of a choice. David Chen tends to create some good designs, some of which are quite unconventional. My preference would have been the Terra. It's about the same price, a touch smaller but has contoured micarta scales and a wire clip. Or you could go with something more fancy but still affordable from PF with the Deepsea. It "steps up" to K110, and uses silver twill and black horizontal grain carbon fibers.
The pry bar on the rose craft isn’t a new design, it’s old pre war design. The designer explained he saw old slipjoints in a catalog from the 30s, and noticed there was a pry bar on the end of the handle, and thought it would be cool to bring that idea back. So they def didn’t come up with that. I’ve yet to buy a rose craft knife, but I’ve been eyeing them up. I hear they’re similar to rough Ryder reserve, but you’ll NEVER see RR’s on this channel, as they are the house brand of Knife centers biggest competitor, SMKW.
I want to start a knife collection but not going to do so until I have to cool display or holder to store and retrieve them daily. A drawer isn’t cool enough.
I've been very interested in the Rosecraft knives lately so it was nice ro see your opinions on it. I'd love to see a OHO lockback of that Trapper. I'd also love to see a "Jumbo" version of their swell center Cokebottle Jack at some point.
Great discussion and great picks! I would add a Böker Plus Kwaiken Air (I was thinking opening envelopes in style), and a fixed blade (where’s a fixed blade?). Maybe a Spyderco Bow River.
With the flood of new knives in recent years - what are some affordable folding knives (< $80) that have withstood the test of time and you feel are still relevant even when compared to the newer ones?
I'm surprised nobody chose the Kershaw Needs Work 😂 Thanks for the suggestions, those Petrified Fish knives are really calling out to me as is the Al Mar but i think i'd go with the 4" version because of my XL hands
I came from the era when you could buy a "hardware store knife" for $10. Fast-forward to my first nice knife, a Buck 501. I paid $39 for it and still have it. My wife had a cow when I showed it to her, she said "What??? You spent forty bucks on a KNIFE???" I thought she'd probably scalp me with it! (That same Buck is now around $75, BTW.) Now we have Microtechs going into 4 figure price tags and nobody blinks an eye, and Microtech can't build them fast enough. Wherever you look, they're out of stock. Nonetheless, I enjoy watching your videos, they are well-performed and informative. But the sad truth is, I cannot afford today's knives, even the budget ones.
Hey DCA & Team! Greetings from Poland - really enjoying your videos here as well! I wonder, what is your opinion on Boker Plus Intention II automatic folder - looks like a great bang for the buck with D2 steel blade and G10 handles. I try to watch everything on your channel but I don’t recall talking about this one. What is your opinion? If you have time, I’m also looking for Izula II alternatives in terms of size and build quality - any recommendations from brands like Tops etc.? Best regards and keep doing what you’re doing;)
Is there actually a difference between a wharncliffe and a "reverse tanto" blade shape? Seems like a clever rebranding. As long as we're on the topic, throw sheepsfoot in there, these all feel like variations on the same theme.
A "true" Wharncliffe should have a perfectly straight edge with a fairly acute tip. A reverse tanto is just a variation of a clip point with a cool name for marketing.
I have heard recycled steel is not as high quality as virgin steel. Is that true? Do any knives or knife manufacturers use only one or the other? Do you have any additional comments on this topic? Thx. Always enjoy these FAQ s
19:30 Hey guys hoping y’all do a Top 10 "Pocket Dropper" EDC Fixed Blade Knives. With a mix of prices keep up the excellent work love the videos , thank you . 🎉🎉
My son has recently become enamored with everything cowboy. He has the boots, flannels, hat, etc. His birthday is coming up and I'd like to get him a decent fixed blade knife to go with the theme. Thoughts??? would prefer to stay under $100.
cold steel srk, it's a do it all near indestructible knife in a very useful blade shape with the industries best sheath, plus its $40, if you want to push the envelope you can often find the fancy versions on sale for right around $100 as well. I've seen the cpm 3v bladed one at midwayusa for $99 many times
Welcome Tom & Joshua to the Team. Big shoe to fill so be alert, be careful & be sharp with the critics..! In the meantime have fun, Thomas does.! Saw a couple of glitches but who cares.! On with the show......!! As always the show is entertaining & informative. Glad to see The Seth doing his magic. Cheers DCA, Seth, Tom & Joshua from Australia. Hope Thomas is not moonlighting his bartending skills.!! Happy Birthday Chuck Norris, the man, the legend and the only person to be able to stand up after receiving a kick from Brue Lee, another man & legend.
Got to love you saying TWO employees suck at replacing one guy and neither just dropped the camera and walked out ..... Guess they are overpaid ( Thomas .. ask for a BIG raise ... !! )
👍Beautiful affordable Knives, thing with me and beautiful knives is that I don't want to use them so they get dulled or scratched up🤣 Only problem I have with your videos is that I can't buy from your shop because I only use Pay Pal online never personal credit cards⛈

FAQ : Hello DCA & nice KC team. I'm following you and enjoy your videos beyond the atlantic ocean from Burgundy France ! I used to be a "white collar" and still enjoy wearing an "gentleman edc". A couple years ago, you made a review on that king of edc. Is it possible to make an "up-date" ? Ideally, interm of price, i would like to stay under 150$ and 2.5 oz and I prefer to avoid thumbstud which I dislike. Thanks by advance. One MOST SERIOUS QUESTION : As an american guy, I wish you to come in burgundy : There is so much marvellous things to see and taste... What would you take as an EDC to come ? ;-)
Hey DCA, question, like many knife lovers, I am a habitual fidgeter, and often my knife is the most fidgetable thing on hand. But normies often get nervous when they see you fidgiting with a knife, so I have been using the finger ring on a Gerber Remix. Are there any other knives with fidget-friendly features that don't involve opening the blade?
Amazing what bits n bobs you can get on a cheap knife that use to be only available on costly custom or small batch lines. Just shows elders had it right it is all BS games and snake oil just get a folder that fits your hand, doesn't raise eyebrows where you live, can do the work YOU do, and is easy for you to sharpen.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Victorinox SAKs, with alox handles. They certainly look more expensive than they are, they have that fancy, premium feel (opposite to plastic SAKs), and I've never met someone who's not proud owning one.
that's a solid point, i've never met anyone that can't appreciate the usefulness and simplicity of a SAK. I have an alox mini champ on the keyring.
Hey DCA, I am a carpenter and use my knife all day for a variety of construction related tasks. I currently carry a Spyderco Delica in VG10. Paramilitary 3 sounds like itd be right up your alley
@@BrodyThoreson1234 that's what I was thinking, and spyderco heat treats there stuff right

A small fixed blade might be perfect for you.
The Italian companies do good work on making knives feel more expensive than they are.
No doubt. Fox, MKM, Viper, Lionsteel, Giant Mouse all make great knives, but I don't think of any of them as being cheap. MKM especially makes excellent knives for the price, though.
@@random_eskimo_in_the_rockies been eyeing the mkm macro but it goes up everytime and here i thought 60 was a lot now its 80 something.

A inexpensive but luxury feeling knife is the Knife center exclusive CJRB Pyrite Alt with the titanium and burlap handles
Just picked up the Begg Steelcraft Series JVO Traditional Sheepsfoot, stainless steel handle, 14C28N blade, slip joint from the Knife Center at $31. Very good materials, great quality. Thanks KC.
Seth is really growing on me. He's always a good addition!
I'll tell David we can keep him
My wish list is already long enough. You just added a tableful to it! I think the CKRT Symmetry falls into this category. I got mine on sale for $20. The Knifecenter version is really nice for $50. I got one for my wife. We love them.

Try one of them switchblade combs. Just a suggestion.
The CRKT Padawan is not the cheapest, but feels more expensive than it is. The spine is crowned and the design is slick! 🤔
I have the Moki Kronos which is kind of the more expensive version of the Al Mar Hawk/Falcon/Eagle. Such a classic and luxurious design
The Petrified Fish Hourglass is wicked! Looks like a folding Ed Fowler Pronghorn.
Thanks, you showed some really nice knives that won't break the bank.

Sometimes it comes down to what annoys David
A "true" Wharncliffe should have a perfectly straight edge with a fairly acute tip. A reverse tanto is just a variation of a clip point with a cool name for marketing.
Nice selection.
I have heard recycled steel is not as high quality as virgin steel. Is that true? Do any knives or knife manufacturers use only one or the other? Do you have any additional comments on this topic? Thx. Always enjoy these FAQ s
“Shall I pull one out first, then we’ll trade off as we go” is crazy
What?

I may sound crazy but the CRKT Fossil always feels way more expensive to me. Rose Craft blades do the same.
Not a single fixed blade!?
Sometimes inexpensive knives can be very good. Nice selection. Thanks 🎸🔪
ALSO dont forget there are many gently used knives 🤷♂️🤔👍🤘🤩
Anyone had any experience with QSP knives? Im a collector in the UK and not seen any here.
Excellent video. Suggestion : Maybe do a similar vid in the future with a higher price point ($100-$250). Keep up the great work.
The quality built into the Rosecraft knives is PHENOMENAL (to borrow a word from Jerrod Neeves😅)
I'd say any sub-100 dollar USA made Lershaw would also fit for this category!
DCA for the win! He pronounced Appalachian correctly.
Sadly the Petrified fish hourglass is out of stock everywhere 😮
19:30 Hey guys hoping y’all do a Top 10 "Pocket Dropper" EDC Fixed Blade Knives. With a mix of prices keep up the excellent work love the videos , thank you . 🎉🎉
Is it just me or has the volume been really low on this and Thursday's New Knives for the Week?
My son has recently become enamored with everything cowboy. He has the boots, flannels, hat, etc. His birthday is coming up and I'd like to get him a decent fixed blade knife to go with the theme. Thoughts??? would prefer to stay under $100.
cold steel srk, it's a do it all near indestructible knife in a very useful blade shape with the industries best sheath, plus its $40, if you want to push the envelope you can often find the fancy versions on sale for right around $100 as well. I've seen the cpm 3v bladed one at midwayusa for $99 many times
One of the best FAQ episodes yet. Thank you, gentlemen.
I'm proud of the interim producers for holding it together while Thomas is away, but I'll also say hurry back Thomas 😂. Good work everyone
Thank you to Tom and josh, for helping out. But we really need to get Thomas back
Got to love you saying TWO employees suck at replacing one guy and neither just dropped the camera and walked out .....
Guess they are overpaid
( Thomas .. ask for a BIG raise ... !! )
I think the only way you can sharpen an indestructible knife is with an irresistible force. Though that answer may not move you.
Getting massive bosses son 0:08 vibes from Seth am I wrong
👍Beautiful affordable Knives, thing with me and beautiful knives is that I don't want to use them so they get dulled or scratched up🤣 Only problem I have with your videos is that I can't buy from your shop because I only use Pay Pal online never personal credit cards⛈

Sounds like Thomas is bout to ask for a pay raise......
What would you take as an EDC to come ? ;-)
To sharpen an indestructable knife you need ...
Plasma beams!
BTW, does KC sell that kind of sharpener? I couldn't find it on the site 😂
I’d vote for the Crkt symmetry and the QSP penguin
Thomas 👍🏻
even the lighting isn’t proper without him. There’s a dark area on the left side 😄
I can't leave these guys alone for a minute :)
Rosecraft...common this is Rough raider reserve quality.. it. Eats case alive.
Good to know. I've been seeing a lot of rosecraft recently but don't know anything about the brand
Most Serious question what knife do you suggest to make coffee with?
9:29 what's going on here, the video source wasn't edited right XD
Real Steel Sacra or Pathfinder are phenomenal value.
You should check on the Extrema Ratio Ant. best designed knife on the planet IMHO
I love that as a collector a knife that's $60-$100 is high entry level but to a normal human being that's an expensive knife 😂.
To be filming at ISO 400 the lights in there must be like hellfire.
DCA & Seth V… luv your vidjas and how you guys play off each other! Even though people would pay to see Seth get his mop sheared!!
