    From the movie's start to it's fifteen minute mark, the word "Cabot" is uttered by the cast 64 times. That's a ratio of 4.26 Cabots/minute, or in simpler terms, a Cabot every 14 seconds.

    Gotta love how the "hero" spends about 90% of the movie imprisoned, tortured, or running away. He doesn't kill any of the main villains or lead the people in a revolution. Even the one substantial thing he does, saving one slave girl, is quickly cancelled out as she is recaptured in minutes.

    • @jackattack17
      @jackattack17 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      The “hero” is so useless, the problem has to fix itself (the villains killing each other just for the hell of it). It’s like the screenwriters wrote themselves into a corner.

      Some books about screenwriting say that one of the worst mistakes you can make is to create an ineffectual hero who is merely pushed through the story by the other characters.

    LMAO - I couldn't stop laughing from the beginning. One of my favourite lines, early on;
    Watney: Cabot, you know how to drink?
    Mike: Put your lips together and drink.
    Here's some trivia; The actor who played 'Cabot' was also in Casino Royale (YES, the one with Daniel Craig). His role might be considered that of a walk-on, but, he was in the scene when Bond first orders 'his' Martini (Bond: Wait... three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it over ice, and add a thin slice of lemon peel).
    He's sitting next to Bond (as 'TomelIi' ) and says 'You know, I'll have one of those.'

    Mst3k shaped my life in the 90s. I was living in Minneapolis a few miles from where it was filmed--wish I'd had the courage to go down and ask for autographs. When my son was 10 or so (he's 20 now) we watched a bunch--he got it. Now, my daughter's 15--maybe time to revisit the Satellite of Love. Of course 25-30 year old jokes get dated. As to this movie, I read the John Norman "Gor" books in the 70s and 80s. First few were okay then they went all crazy misogynistic.

      According to IMDB Gor (filmed simultaneously with this sequel) was his first movie in 5 years, the previous 3 movies being A Slasher Film (Alone in the Dark) a Sci-fi Horror (Without Warning) and ANOTHER barbarian film (Hawk, The Slayer).
      His career would have a brief late-life resurgence with supporting roles in Batman, City Slickers 1 & 2 and Treasure Island... but he would find the time to star in the cyberpunk box-office-bomb Cyborg 2:Glass Shadow in the middle of all that. That movie had a lot of prominent actors in a career low-point

    "Guards! Guards!" is the title of one of the Discworld novels by Terry Prachett, published in 1989. Discworld is a fantasy book series known for its comedy.
    46:55 A "short stack" is a short stack of pancakes that can be ordered at pancake restaurants, as oposed to a tall stack which is a larger serving. A pancake is a traditional breakfast food.
    1:03:41 Penny loafers are a type of leather slip-on shoe, each with an opening at the front suitable for putting a penny into, as an ornament.

      _Guards, Guards!_ was named after the cliche line (from movies in general, not this one in particular). In the foreword, Pratchett specifically dedicates the book to the hapless minions whose job is "round about Chapter Three (or ten minutes into the film) to rush into the room, attack the hero one at a time, and be slaughtered". (It's actually closer to half an hour in this stinkburger but you know, they needed room to fit in all the _Cabot!_ and partial nudity.)
