The line is in reference to a moment where Kirk sees Spock swinging playfully from a tree; the camera zooms in abruptly on him, much like that introductory shot of Melissa. Funny enough, though, he never actually says "I'm not going back, Jim." in the episode. Apparently it had been a while since anyone on the MST writing team had seen the episode.

Yes and no (for me)...I thought the movies and riffing were way better, but I really loved the dynamics and host segments better in the Forrester-Frank era, right out of the gate of Frank's first (skanked while you sleep) appearance
The Mike years are definitely the best, Kevin n Bill really found their voices. The riffs got better too. The tom n crows voices were too forced/goofy during Joel's episodes.
In going back to the seventies, this was the kind of third feature you'd see at a drive-in in late November when, for some reason, the car wouldn't start until this ended . . . two hours after the snack bar closed. I still have frostbite flashbacks.
Between MST3K and Joe Bob Briggs, I have developed such a love for cheesy 70s and 80s drive-in/42nd Street movies. Especially Italian exploitation and mockbuster movies from that era.
At about 41:38, this film actually makes a good directorial move for any horror, thtiller, or exploitation film by having Lucinda subtly show up in the background upstairs window. I missed this for a long time, and found it kinda creepy when I saw it.

This was always my favorite MST3K. I have laughed at the same jokes in this ad honestly as the first time every one of the hundreds of times I’ve watched this. I’ve never had that with anything else. Like to tears everytime they say it’s,”where the fish lives.” Its uncanny. And amazing. Grandma rotten apple face. Ahhh golden everytime.

The movie about the night stalker...Richard Ramirez?...was so appropriately shown at a slumber party I went to at 10 (what were the adults thinking??) and I didn’t sleep for literally four nights. I saw Troll (1986) back in 89, I was seven. I wasn't super terrified of the movie itself - except my brother who was nine had rigged some fishing line out his window, around the house, and attached it to a branch by my window so he could pull the line and the branch would scratch at my window, as if a monster. Combined that my parents had purchased the "My Pet Monster" doll as a birthday gift - after seeing Troll I wouldn't let the doll stay in my room. It had to sit in the hall because I thought it was alive and making noises in my room. Lol, got to hand it to my brother on that one, that's pretty good

Coming home, in junior high, late in the weekends, my dad would some times be up and watching this. It’s because of him I started watching… that was like 1988… So many episodes… so nany VHS tapes!!!
I love how Shout Factory allows us to view these treasures without charge. You all are the BEST. I was a MST3K fan from childhood, and being able to view them anytime I want now (without commercial breaks!) is the best gift. Thank you, thank you!
Captain Bud Sturguess Barely made it through that one due to how maddening his stupidity was. The foursome in 'Bloodlust' are another contender for dumbest hostages.
But you have to admit, Robert Reed's performance in "Bloodlust" was absolutely riveting! His rage, his desperation! Mike Brady was chewing the scenery!
You've missed the movie's reference to Lovecraft's story "The Horror at Red Hook". The "Mormo, Gorgo, etc." phrase is an incantation recited by the members of the ancient evil sect in that story. Yes, I know... NEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRDDDD!

Revisiting this, I still think this movie’s concept could be made into something good. Here’s what I would do if I were remaking it: 1. Actually give the demonic possession a scary downside. Specifically: 2. No silly killer grandma. Creepy grandma is only there as a red herring. Instead it’s _the girl herself_ who is periodically forced to kill people. This poses some danger to the boy and puts an obstacle in their relationship. After the boy takes the curse onto himself to save the girl, they can have their happy ending, but the catch is that they’re now in the Satanic murder business together. 3. Give the boy the objective of finding out who’s behind all the murders. Then watch the internal conflict as he realizes the girl he’s in love with is almost certainly the culprit, and then finds out firsthand through the vision of the witch-burning. 4. Speed it up. This movie has the pacing of a dead Slaking. 5. Commit to the weird porny swerve near the end and actually make it an erotic horror type thing- thinking Hellraiser vibes. It’s called The Touch Of Satan- more touching plz.
Murderous Grandma Servo deserved to be a recurring character. Also, I never expected multiple Herbert von Karajan references across the entire series, much less in the same episode!

Thank you for uploading these! As someone who lives outside the US and can't obtain the DVDs without paying the huge shipping charges, these are a godsend. The annotations are great too, now I understand the riffs I didn't get the first time.

Captain Bud Sturguess Barely made it through that one due to how maddening his stupidity was. The foursome in 'Bloodlust' are another contender for dumbest hostages.
But you have to admit, Robert Reed's performance in "Bloodlust" was absolutely riveting! His rage, his desperation! Mike Brady was chewing the scenery!

You've missed the movie's reference to Lovecraft's story "The Horror at Red Hook". The "Mormo, Gorgo, etc." phrase is an incantation recited by the members of the ancient evil sect in that story. Yes, I know... NEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRDDDD!

This was my first episode of MST3k back in the day. The wassail sketch at the beginning got me hooked for life.

The story here is actually pretty clever and compelling. If only someone could have competently made it.

Revisiting this, I still think this movie’s concept could be made into something good. Here’s what I would do if I were remaking it:
1. Actually give the demonic possession a scary downside. Specifically:
2. No silly killer grandma. Creepy grandma is only there as a red herring. Instead it’s _the girl herself_ who is periodically forced to kill people. This poses some danger to the boy and puts an obstacle in their relationship. After the boy takes the curse onto himself to save the girl, they can have their happy ending, but the catch is that they’re now in the Satanic murder business together.
3. Give the boy the objective of finding out who’s behind all the murders. Then watch the internal conflict as he realizes the girl he’s in love with is almost certainly the culprit, and then finds out firsthand through the vision of the witch-burning.
4. Speed it up. This movie has the pacing of a dead Slaking.
5. Commit to the weird porny swerve near the end and actually make it an erotic horror type thing- thinking Hellraiser vibes. It’s called The Touch Of Satan- more touching plz.
This has been my favorite episode of MST3k ever since I was in high school 🥰

Murderous Grandma Servo deserved to be a recurring character. Also, I never expected multiple Herbert von Karajan references across the entire series, much less in the same episode!

It always kinda creeped me out that you can see someone (Melissa?) watching Luther talk to the cop at around 41:40. No one is in the window at first, but once the camera cuts back to the shot where you can see the house, there's CLEARLY a shadow in the window.
That is legitimately creepy
