HIJMS may be the case for the Imperial Japanese Navy during and before World War 2, same with the IJN, this was never the official prefix use by Japan. Japan didn’t have a prefix so historian and shipbuilder of British that build the Japanese warship before WW1 use those prefix. The modern navy of Japan, the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force, use JDS, Japanese Defense Ship, before changing to simply JS, Japanese Ship.
