      As far as he's concerned. Winning one match is all that's needed. Having fantastic Draws for the rest of the match would be a good fight, and create interesting games. He won the tournament in the first Win. The other wins were needless (given how they played out) and only make Nepo look bad tbh.

    This is just the proof that sometimes, even the best make mistakes... to err is human :) It's just a shame that Nepo collapsed like that after the marathon game 6...guess that one was too much for him and pushed him overboard (even Magnus said he was too tired as well to fully calculate after the following games, which says something)... :(

      Game 6 just tore up the accumulating tension. Ian often got better positions, but since he did not make sharpening moves, all his advantage was quickly reduced to a draw and even he himself had to defend. In game 6, sharpening and breaking the structure of pawns, exchanging rooks for a queen ended in defeat, after that he simply lost his style, did not understand how he should to play, began to change smth and just started blundering.

Carlsen was leading 5-3 at the moment and needed 2,5 points to win the title .Kasparov was 5-0 behind in 1984 and came back to 5-3 before match was canceled by FIDE president Campomanes. He needed 6 wins to win overall and started his desperate effort from zero ! Korchnoi was 5-2 behind in 1978 against Karpov and came back to 5-5 during 4 games ( 3 wins and 1 draw ) He needed 4 wins to win the title .They did not win respective matches , but they did not throw towel in either. But of course both were fighters. Nepo just gave up fighting after loss in 6th game.

    That was a noob mistake. Again, Ian can beat me with his eyes closed. • @ursuss100
      @ursuss100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That 6th game was so long that it became the longest in both time spent and number of moves played in the history of the WC (7hrs 45 mns, 136 moves) -the previous holder was game 5 of the 1978 WC Karpov vs Korchnoi, which had lasted 126 moves and had to be adjourned twice, all of that for...a stalemate. ^^

      @@lucasng4712 That's missing Omar's point. Black could have played c6 sooner but one reason it's potent in response to c5 is that you can no longer defend the bishop with Nc5; i.e., on top of being trapped it can't be defended. White can actually play Nc5 immediately after black plays Ra4 because even if he then takes the pawn, you can force a rook trade with Rc3 for an even position.
