Deep fried ice cream is actually a super common dessert in Mexican restaurants (at least in CA) and they’re so amazing, they’re different than the ones you had and they’re served in a sugar and cinnamon fried tortilla shell. Now I’m gonna go buy one right now cause damn.
Ollie saying “you could sell that in a restaurant” is funny because restaurants DO sell fried ice cream. I’ve only seen it on Mexican restaurant menus. I’ve never had a giant ball of ice cream like that one, though. The first time I had it, the balls were much smaller and served in a dish, topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. All the ones I've seen/had have a crust of crushed corn flakes mixed with cinnamon & sugar, and often have a drizzle of chocolate syrup on them. Divine!!
Yeah these ones are frozen with nitrogen first, so they can be completely dunked in a batter of flour and whatever else (milk, egg, etc) and then deep fried. They remain structurally sound because of the nitrogen freeze, and the batter can be wet, versus dry, which is done to cut the fry time, so the ice cream doesn’t melt too much. Not so much of a concern with nitro freeze ice cream.
I have made deep fried ice cream in a Mexican restaurant. We hard froze a ball of ice cream then coated in cinnamon and crushed corn flakes. It then goes back in the freezer to get very hard. To serve you deep fry just long enough to crisp up the coating and put it in a flan cup, put on a generous amount of honey or chocolate if you prefer and top with whipped cream.

Deep fried ice cream was one of the best parts of eating in at a Chinese restaurant growing up here in Australia, except its crumbed instead of battered (usually with panko) and served with caramel or chocolate topping and sometimes chopped peanuts
Honestly y'all are troopers for getting through all that while sitting in the Texas sun! Even as a Texas native I think I would've tapped out after that bite of key lime pie!
sneer is butthurt 😹😹😹😹 dude gain some knowledge, read a book maybe, southern Texas is insanely hot year round. No need to get butthurt unless you enjoy 105 F degree days 😹😹
Tempura is the best batter for frying desserts. Light and crispy, not too heavy but still providing a warm and crispy texture, especially for ice cream.
You have to try deep fried butter!!! It’s a staple at the Indiana state fair lol. It’s actually just a hollow cube of dough at the end because the butter melts into it but it’s SO GOOD
5:43 Twinkies are not fried. They are a sponge cake, baked and filled with a non-dairy cream. I don’t know if they were there, but fried pickles are AMAZEBALLS!
I used to go to a Western themed restaurant in NYC primarily for the fried pickles. Sadly, they went out of business and took their 12-foot iguana sculpture on the roof with them.
@@drumsR4girlsthen that was not fried ice cream, now was it? I've had it at several different Mexican restaurants and it was always similar to what they had in the video. Actually at my favorite place, they pour honey & chocolate syrup on top & sprinkle cinnamon all over & give you churros to dip with, if you want.
Their complete avoidance of holding the food by the sticks is hilarious to me. Why would the stick be there except to hold it and not get your fingers greasy?😂 I would never have been able to stomach this much fried fair food (delicious though it is)--props!
My fav desert is actually deep fried lol. Its a xango (chaungo)a mexican dessert. Its a tortilla wrapped around cheesecake filling which is then deepfried and dusted with cinnamon sugar and chocolate sauce on top. Its AMAZING 🤤
Ive had deep fried ice cream in Asian restaurants here in New Zealand, it's delicious! The best one I had was deep fried in a biscuit crumb, sitting in a pool of glorious caramel sauce. Must go back to that restaurant...
Quite a number of Japanese restaurants in the US also serve fried ice cream! It's usually tempura battered, so it's (theoretically) supposed to be more of a light crispiness than just regular deep fry batter.
This is crazy, I had fried oreos in London... specifically in Camden! Also the fried icecream is the go to dessert in the chinese restaurants here in Naples Italy! It really is a samll world!
I really hope one day Josh and Ollie will come to my country to try all the dishes. I come from Vietnam and the cuisine there is not a joke. I'm abroad for a few years now and yearn for the food every single day 😆
Our own cuisines may feel like it’s the best. But other people may feel different about it. Where I come we cook and season everything with spices, anything raw or half cooked is frowned upon. Doesn’t mean it’s bad
There is a restaurant near me (in Northern Canada) that sells something they call Mexican Fried Ice Cream. It’s basically vanilla fried ice cream where the batter they deep fry it in tastes like churros, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. 🤤
I don't blame Ollie for feeling a sick after all those deep fried desserts. My arteries were hardening just watching it! Lol 😄 You're only in Texas for a short time so I get that you had to try it all. I literally busted up laughing when y'all had that t-shirt made! That's just amazing! They actually do sell fried ice cream in restaurants. I've mostly seen them on Mexican restaurant menus though, and they're fried differently- I think maybe with corn flakes as the "shell". It's amazing. I'd recommend it next time you go to one.
I love Ollie's descriptions and Josh's face immediately afterwards 😆 They are so brutally accurate its fantastic to watch. I feel bad for Ollie hitting the oil wall, sending prayers for Ollie's tummy!!!
As an American I wouldn't be able to get through half of that without feeling sick, I'm both impressed and frightened, Josh should be awarded dual citizenship for his enthusiasm
Omg glad you enjoyed it! Warning for anyone going to a carnival and getting this type of food: make sure your tummy can handle high fat foods in large quantity haha
Deep fried ice cream is something you can get at Thai restaurants here in Aus. I do prefer the ice cream wrapped in crispy filo kinda pastry for texture. Yum
I had deep fried pineapple with ice cream at a chinese restaurant last weekend and it was so good! The perfect combination of sweet, oily, and slightly acidic
I sympathized with Ollie hard in this one - I have actually thrown up from ingesting too much oil at one time, and it is a HORRIBLY uncomfortable feeling, different from the NORMAL uncomfortable feeling of regular stomach sickness. But it seems he perked up after his break, so I hope he was ok!

Next time you guys go to a fair though you guys are gonna have to try funnel cake! It’s absolutely amazing and is household in almost every American fair and super good and sweet but other than that this video was amazing! :)
I'd like to see these two eat their way through the Texas Renaissance Festival. If they think the turkey legs here at the Houston rodeo are huge, they ain't seen nothing yet. And there's a dessert stand at the Texas Ren-Fair that serves fresh fruit kabobs dipped in chocolate as well as huge slices of FROZEN cheese cake--ON A STICK--that's also dipped into chocolate. You eat it kind of the way you'd eat a Häagen-Dazs bar. It's quite something!

I just found this page yesterday and I have BINGED HARDCORE on the videos ❣️❣️❣️🇺🇸
@@sneer0101yea we are, Texas and California>>>>> all of Europe 😂😂😂
sneer is butthurt 😹😹😹😹 dude gain some knowledge, read a book maybe, southern Texas is insanely hot year round. No need to get butthurt unless you enjoy 105 F degree days 😹😹
Tempura is the best batter for frying desserts. Light and crispy, not too heavy but still providing a warm and crispy texture, especially for ice cream.
Only if you like Tempura, I don't but to each their own
I'm surprised y'all didn't get deep fried butter. Yes, that's a real thing. 😂
I always thought "deep fried butter" was just a joke. Do people actually eat it? Like, as a treat?
@@Snarl_Marx Only as a crazy fair food.. but admittedly, I think your question is why someone started making it lol
this has got to be an american thing 😭
I'm pretty sure Ollie would have just imploded at that point.
@B y I am American and I never heard of this. It sounds like it would taste nasty. Although you should try deep-fried Oreos and deep-fried ice cream.
Fried ice cream is a treat. If you haven’t tried it, you’ve got to. First time I had one was 20 years ago at a Mexican restaurant.
They do sell fried ice cream in a restaurant, it's an almost-staple Tex Mex / Mexican-American restaurant dessert 🤣
I ordered it once and it was just a ball of ice cream rolled in I think sweetened, fried cornflakes. I'd much rather have what they ordered!
Actually Ollie deep fried ice cream can be found in a lot of restaurants especially Mexican ones
As a Houstonian, I approve of this video!
Yeeee ha
Same
As a dallasian I as well
I lived in Houston for a year, miss it so much. I loved the rodeo!
Agreed lol!!
Quite a number of Japanese restaurants in the US also serve fried ice cream! It's usually tempura battered, so it's (theoretically) supposed to be more of a light crispiness than just regular deep fry batter.
Also some Mexican restaurants.
This is crazy, I had fried oreos in London... specifically in Camden! Also the fried icecream is the go to dessert in the chinese restaurants here in Naples Italy! It really is a samll world!
The tumbleweed cotton candy @ 5:13 in the video 😂😂
this is killing me 😭😭😭
Bahahah, I was so focused on Ollie’s face that I missed that.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m so glad you pointed it out. I went back to watch and it was totally worth it! 😂
I really hope one day Josh and Ollie will come to my country to try all the dishes. I come from Vietnam and the cuisine there is not a joke. I'm abroad for a few years now and yearn for the food every single day 😆
Leave it that for SONNY 😎
Nah... Eating cats and dogs
@@Vibraniuum I've seen that channel. But Jolly is my favourite in the whole youtube universe, so I would really like to see that.
Our own cuisines may feel like it’s the best. But other people may feel different about it. Where I come we cook and season everything with spices, anything raw or half cooked is frowned upon. Doesn’t mean it’s bad
@@juneseongmin wtf, clearly you’ve never had Vietnamese food
You guys make me realize I'm not as American as I could be and you make me want to do better.
😅
😂 Tehetehe
same LoL! 🇺🇸
Im so glad y'all uploaded a part 2 of this, thank you ❤❤❤❤ glad y'all enjoyed what Texas has to offer.
There is a restaurant near me (in Northern Canada) that sells something they call Mexican Fried Ice Cream. It’s basically vanilla fried ice cream where the batter they deep fry it in tastes like churros, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. 🤤
Can’t believe y’all were here in Houston! Lol Rodeo just started again with new food just in case y’all interested coming back 😁
I don't blame Ollie for feeling a sick after all those deep fried desserts. My arteries were hardening just watching it! Lol 😄 You're only in Texas for a short time so I get that you had to try it all. I literally busted up laughing when y'all had that t-shirt made! That's just amazing! Much love from Fort Worth, Texas! 🤠🌭🍰
I'd like to see you guys in Hawaii at a traditional Hawaiian Luau. That would be fun to watch
Laughed SO HARD at this one! Ollie with a tummy ache just becomes savage!
Deep fried ice cream is something you can get at Thai restaurants here in Aus. I do prefer the ice cream wrapped in crispy filo kinda pastry for texture. Yum
The corn flakes work, though
It’s Mexican restaurants here in the US. Interesting parallel.
@@JustMe-dc6ks Actually I've had it at Thai restaurants here in Texas too.
They do it at Chinese restaurants and sometimes Japanese restaurants in New Zealand.
As a senior American, I have never eaten any of this stuff...not even at the county fair. Good luck, you guys!
It’s nice how he shared with the filming crew.
I had deep fried pineapple with ice cream at a chinese restaurant last weekend and it was so good! The perfect combination of sweet, oily, and slightly acidic
Pineapple sounds amazing
I sympathized with Ollie hard in this one - I have actually thrown up from ingesting too much oil at one time, and it is a HORRIBLY uncomfortable feeling, different from the NORMAL uncomfortable feeling of regular stomach sickness. But it seems he perked up after his break, so I hope he was ok!
Same :') also due to food in the south
You may have gallbladder, malabsorption issues.
ive gotten fried ice cream and fried cheesecake at sushi restaurants fairly often i think jolly needs to do a "restaurant desserts" food tour next
This channel was the reason I did not have a productive day at work. Love it.
This is one of my new favorite channels. I like seeing you guys react to American food.
Me and my friend used to STRUGGLE to finish a single funnel cake between the two of us, I can't imagine eating this many deep fried desserts in a row. XD Are you guys okay??? Have your doctors seen this?? XD
I subscribed to this channel not long ago. I do not regret that decision. You two, plus your team, provide thoroughly enjoyable content.
I'm also from Houston. It's good to see the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from a Brit's perspective. You did well. Your entire Texas series is terrific. Thanks!
Y'all are making even my stomach turn. So much sweetness. Time for a Turkey Parfait--a cup with layers of mashed potatoes, gravy and turkey. 😋
My "absolute" favorite channel to find a new video
Fried Ice cream rolled in caramel, rolled in chopped nuts, topped with whipped cream and a cherry is my favorite lol
Ollie: “Are you fine?”
Josh: “Yeah.”
Ollie: “Why?”
Haha that made me chuckle 🤭
he says "How?"
I absolutely love Ollie's reactions!! There's never any guessing about what he's feeling!!
WHATASTATE! We loved filming in Texas so much we made a limited edition t-shirt! Check it out here getjolly.store
Origin of the deep fried Oreo was an Armenian guy at the LA county fair. And not a Scotsman 😅
As a Texan Jollybean I think I need that shirt
Next time you guys go to a fair though you guys are gonna have to try funnel cake! It’s absolutely amazing and is household in almost every American fair and super good and sweet but other than that this video was amazing! :)
This Texan is adding it to the cart TODAY!
The whatastate shirt is brilliant. It’s a shirt that would appeal to Texans state pride.
Them feeding Luke and seeing his reaction made the video for me.
One of my favorite things is how nice they are to those giving them the food. How often do you hear us say have a lovely day haha
I usually say, "Have a nice day!" Retail employees deal with so many people throughout the day.
When Ollie is the voice of reason, you know you've gone too far.
I low key thought that they would have deep fried pizza to piss off Mr. Z even more 😂❤️
In the video before this one they did have pizza on a stick. 😆 🍕
They'll need to go to Scotland for that one!
@@mollyapteros Mostly just Scotland and Northern England
2:08 now that is the reaction of a man who fell in love with deep fried oreos from one bite
Solidly on board with Ollie for this episode. Fried food has its place & lots of it is good but as good as you start frying desserts, I’m completely overwhelmed & disinterested.
You get more texture if you eat the fried items soon after getting them. Having so many makes the last ones you tried more "soggy".
Deep fried goodies like that are super rich and definitely best consumed with strict moderation. I can relate to Ollie after the first time hitting one of those deep fried everything stands.
"You could sell that in a restaurant!" Me: laughs in American.
If y’all haven’t tried a normal piece of key lime pie, you should. It is tart and creamy and the best ones have graham cracker crusts
As an American who doesn’t go to rodeos or carnivals I love seeing the reactions of these two. More Juno please! She’s fabulous. ❤️🥰
